"All things share the same breath - the beast, the tree, the man... the air shares its spirit with all the life it supports."
-Chief Seattle

Today, a student posed such a powerful question in my Gentle Yoga Class, that I felt the lesson was worth sharing. She asked, "why do you always remind us to breath? Are there students who don't breath? Won't they pass out? " 🙊

In my experience teaching, many students seem to hold their breath when learning something new, challenge themselves or are stuck in their heads.
Our breath is the universal language that establishes our mind / body connection. When we breath in, we deliver messages from our mind of how to maneuver our body parts based on logic and understanding of the pose. When we breath out, our body sends feedback to our brain of what feels good and what needs an alternative option. It's an ongoing conversation as long as we're breathing and a vital line of communication for harmony in our practice.
If I see my students holding their breath or barely breathing, I try to resuscitate their flow by mediating the dialogue between their brain and bronchi by guiding them through the pose and explaining how to tell their body what to do and how to do it. Then, I ask them where they feel it to give their body a chance to speak up.
It's almost guaranteed that, when they notice a body part speaking to them, they gasp in excitement to share. It's this very deep breath in that ignites their next common ah-ha moment of sighing a breath of relief when finally understanding what they need to do next with that body part. And hence the conversation is now fluidly evolving as the deep breath out inadvertently delivers the message to the body for the next round of practice.

It's quite remarkable to watch this silent film happen every time I teach. When you see it all happening as you're explaining this exact concept, it's comedic too. 😜

Did you notice your breath while reading this? Do you notice the messages you're delivering to your body with each breath in? And what is your body trying to tell you with each exhale?

Since hurricane Irma, we’ve basically been living out of my Toyota Scion...a few cities ago... we decided to name her “Lola Pocahontas” 👌🏽💜She’s got just about everything I own packed to the ceiling and she’s been real good to us. -
Now, we’re on the last leg of our last road trip for awhile, and we’ll be house sitting for a friend in St. Augustine for few months! -
It’s been a wild ride y’all. Thank you to my amazing sister @mswendel45 for always keeping her door open to us 💜

I wasn't sure if I wanted to post these or not, but after thinking about it, I decided to share these. Don't just marvel at the destruction. We need to take proactive steps to combat climate change so that storms like #hurricaneIrma don't become the norm. It's been 3 months, and communities in south Florida are still hurting badly.

How to get involved in the BVI! (All puppies adopted!)

This is Davy. Behind her are the remaining pieces of her home. She worked at the airport and is known to always be nicely dressed with a smile on her face, and eager to help.

People in the BVI still carry themselves well with their head high despite how much they've lost. It's humbling to see.

Peep Prince Charles in the crowd.

Britnie and Kali got to meet Prince Charles in the British Virgin Islands which is really cool, but they're also working with a team who is fundraising to help family's rebuild and repair their homes.

On Sunday we unloaded our trucks into #PerfectHeart's storage unit to prepare to be shipped out to the #USVI..literally started with a completely empty unit and filled the ENTIRE thing up with #hurricanerelief supplies and #donations from donors ALL OVER THE COUNTRY!! It's been pretty spectacular to have headed this cross country #CaringfortheCaribbean effort the last two -almost three MONTHS 🌎🚚 And even more fun when I got to team up with the Perfect Heart team and Patrick Cena!! I'm a really lucky lady to have come across so many genuinely big hearted folks along this #journey. So many people care about these islands and the communities on them, even if they have never visited before...I can't stress enough how much #LOVE there is in this #world!! ✨

We get blasted with judgmental social media posts, negative world news, and fear towards things we don't understand. If you don't separate yourself from it, it can lead you down a path of hatred and distrust in your neighbors and fellow human beings... But, if you look past the fear tactics, ignore the hate, and make an attempt to see the good in everything...I can promise you, you will find that LOVE lives everywhere and in everyone. 🌎🌍🌏❤️ Much love to all who participated in this effort. There are literally SO MANY OF YOU!
To the ones who sat with me and waited for donations, those who donated money, the homies that organized events, the DJs that played IN the events, the amazing friends who helped me with admin/truck rentals/networking, the incredible individuals who scrambled to gather supplies, you who invited me into your homes, the strangers that shared the USVI story with their friends, the people who fed me, my incredible friends that provided support when things were getting stressful, the hundreds that shared our effort to spread the word, the able bodied (and sometimes not so able bodied) folks that helped unload and reload the trucks, the ones who simple wished me luck and so much more!! thank you. thank you. thank you. 💛#GoodGoesRound #Volunteer #NonProfit #Caribbean #HurricaneIrmaAftermath #Inspire #Compassion #InOneAnother #DisasterRelief #Humanitarian #News

Effects from Irma are still all over Naples, although the clean up effort has been amazing. Check out this ginormous tree that was knocked down near my father-in-laws condo.

No, this unfortunately wasn't a river. This was the aftermath of hurricane Irma in my community. It has been two months since the hit to our area and today I want to bring attention to and give thanks to everyone who has helped clean up and rebuild. Individuals have come together in helping each other. Companies have worked around the clock to get life back to normalcy. Various missions groups and churches have banned together to support families who have lost much. I wish I could name them all so they could get the thanks they deserve, but it is a good thing when there have been so many that it is impossible to cover them all.

"Most people want to help or make a difference during their existence, but they don’t take the time to inventory their life, their skills, their assets, their business, or their resources in order to be a force for good. No matter how much or little you have, you can make a difference.
.
I had the pleasure of being able to lead the Branson Center for Entrepreneurship Entrepreneurs in a reverse shark tank experience in the BVI centered around how #Irma is going to HELP their start-ups not destroy them. I left encouraged, inspired and motivated by this incredible group of overcomers.

Top takeaways:
1. Frustration is simply a vision of a higher standard. If used in the right way you can bring to life the future and the excellent, or just become a hater activist like most.

2. Entrepreneurs and leaders use obstacles as an excuse to be more creative and innovative.

3. There is always a “WHY” behind what you do, share it. If you don’t know your “WHY” ask yourself “if I could start or further one initiative during my time on earth what would it be and why does that matter to me?” 4. Whatever you have you can use to help others. Do your part without having to be told.
5. If it’s something you want and it’s not available it’s a business opportunity.
6. You do NOT have the whole picture- give yourself grace to know you are moving forward with what you are onto WHILE you figure it out."
