The land of the swirly, twirly, gumdrops 🍬 ... okay well not really, but I promise you, this place is supremely sweet. Just one taste of river life and you wouldn't want a gondola here either.
Photo by the talented @learmiller. I'm beyond grateful for all the stunners you captured those couple weeks on the river πŸ’¦

Earlier today, we took an impromptu trip to the confluence of the Little Colorado and the Colorado rivers. This place is so spectacular! The views are breathtaking! Why anyone would want to disrupt and develop in this beautifully pristine region is beyond me!!
We had so much fun getting lost and seeing all the sights on the way.

Had the true Navajo Nation Fair experience at Tuuvi Gathering today. Had a mutton sandwich on frybread, Texas Twister drink, and Kettle corn. Loved my day with my family. It was so good to see so many friends too. ❀❀❀#savetheconfluence t-shirt I bought today.

Was lucky enough to film today with a truly badass group of Navajo women leading a protest against the development of the Grand Canyon and Navajo sacred land with @pedromcbride #savetheconfluence #matriarchy #thatstyle

This was exciting to see my badass friend @marcy.mak appear from around the corner, she's the only one of the group who packrafted on the little colorado river, which included unexpected 3-5ft river drops. Jenny, Joe, Marcy and I did this trip to see the confluence with hope to continue efforts to save it from developers. It's a special, beautiful place. #packrafting #littlecoloradoriver #rapids #paddling #salttrail #totheconfluence #savetheconfluence

@goforth_and_adventure standing at the confluence of the muddy little Colorado (left) and the Colorado river (right). Most of the year the little Colorado flows a milky electric blue color, but during monsoon season it changes to a chocolate milk color from all the runoff of its thousands of side drainages.

Always love visiting this place, even with the water running muddy. Long hard weekend canyoneering, but worth it. #savetheconfluence #canyoneering #arizona #grandcanyon

Save The Confluence of the Little Colorado River and Colorado River from a plan to build a gondola system that stretches into the bottom of the Grand Canyon. We don’t need any more development in this sacred and wild place. Go to savetheconfluence.com to sign a petition against this project and learn more about the issue. #savetheconfluence

Haven’t been down since spring but grateful to spend the last day of summer on some beautiful trail. .
.
You've been gone for a long long time
You've been in the wind, you've been on my mind
You are the purest soul I've ever known in my life

Take your time, let the rivers guide you in
You know where you can find me again
I'll be waiting here 'till the stars fall out of the sky ~From β€œIn The Wind”, Lord Huron

The impending closure of a coal-fired power plant on the Navajo Nation could lend momentum to a project being considered by tribal leaders to build a tram at the Grand Canyon to fill the economic void photo_Carl Rice #savetheconfluence

I attended a panel discussion and showing of The Confluence - a film produced by Courtney Blackmer - at Colorado River Days. It describes the threat of a tram proposed by Scottsdale developer Lamar Whitmer on the Navajo Nation down to the confluence of the Little Colorado and Colorado rivers. It was a beautiful film but the highlight was meeting the Navajo women who have been tirelessly fighting against the development. Sarana Riggs, Delores Wilson-Aguirre and Renae Yellowhorse spoke passionately about their fight and what the project means both for their families that live on the land and their ancestors. Though they have had some victories, the project is not off the table and they still need your support. Visit the website in my profile to learn more, sign the petition and donate to this worthy cause.
