Fatima Khan

"Is she a terrorist? "Whenever I hear this word I ask another question," she says. "Who planted terrorism in our area? Some came and took our land, forced us to leave, forced us to live in camps. I think this is terrorism. Using means to resist this terrorism and stop its effects - this is called struggle." She recalls in her memoirs thinking of the risk to children she saw on the plane she was hijacking, and telling herself: "We Palestinians are children too and we are a part of the human race."
~As told to The Guardian.
Leila Khalid, member of Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, also first woman hijacker who hijacked a plane which was going from Rome to Tel Aviv(Israel),after that she became the resistance icon. She had surgeries to change her face,as she didn't wanted to be an icon and also so she could hijack a plane for the second time.Icons becomes like posters boys and girls for any separatists movement, the cause is lost in that,be anonymous and raise your voice among the common.
In war, everyone is equal,it doesnt only belong to men as we perceive,we must realize the strength of every being who is fighting for a cause, being a woman does not only mean to be bonded by comfortness of luxuries, raise your voices instead of candles and if it demands resistance, learn how to and when to resist, always speak for the less priveleged because we don't deserve this life for us,it is to help the oppressed, poor, and weak masses, someone must work their little ways to make life better for them,it is not only our duty but a cowardice if we fail to do so.

If someone is asking, there's a willingness there. Treat that willingness as love, and treat it with love.

As a self-identified person of color (a.k.a. POC/racialized person/personne racisΓ©e, or more specifically a French speaking Filipina-Canadian Anglophone), part of my work in waking up includes untangling years of assimilation, decades of repression, and generations of oppression rooted in this body and heart. Sometimes the work also entails gently showing others what they cannot see and how they are contributing to systems of oppression. Although it may be easier to shout from my soap box, it's more effective if I speak from my heart. This is why I'm reading #WakingUpWhite. No, I'm not white, but maybe this book can help me better understand you. If you're white and interested in waking up, pick up this book.

Saw this today.... are you a feminist who commodifies the bodies of females of other species? Every animal product starts with the exploitation of the reproductive system of a female.

Ida B. Wells (1862-1931) was one of the foremost crusaders against black oppression. After the lynching of three of her friends in 1892, Wells became one of the nation’s most vocal anti-lynching activists and brought international attention to the lynching of African Americans in the South. In honor of Day 19 of #BlackHistoryMonth, we celebrate Ida B. Wells and her story, "Crusade for Justice: The Autobiography of Ida B. Wells." Her memoir tells of her private life as mother of a growing family as well as her public activities as teacher, lecturer, and journalist in her fight against attitudes and laws oppressing blacks. The Root conducted a series of interviews with descendants of African American heroes called Living With History. Here's an excerpt from a descendant of Ida B. Wells. Full interview can be accessed via the link in my profile: "Many people look at leaders in history and think that there may have been something magical or that those figures were ordained or revered during their lives. Often times, it was just the opposite, and frequently was the case with Ida B. Wellsβ€”where they had little support and/or significant opposition, but they chose to do what they felt was right, what they felt was necessary. It was their passion, their purpose, their convictions and their tenacity that made them who they were and helped them make an impact. We all have those same traits within us; it is up to each individual to dig deep, let their light shine and make an impact in their own way." -Daniel Duster, descendant of Ida B. Wells

I find myself regularly shaking my head at Trump and this era of "fake news" and "alternative facts." But I must remember: many facts I accept as absolute truth--facts taught to me by teachers, facts written into history books, facts used to build government and systems that fuel our country's structures and values--are also whitewashed, "alternative facts." Or, more matter of factly: lies. Delusions and lies meant to uplift whiteness, white norms, white heroism, and white comfort. Of course they don't come with a warning label: "warning: you are about to consume (entrenched-in-racism) for real alternative facts that you've been socialized to accept as truth." So we need to develop the inner skills and courage to do that on our own. A few ways you can start:
*Diversify your sources of media and news, especially if you are white. Subscribe to podcasts, blogs, and news media written and produced by people of color. *Make the time to re and un learn "American history." Check out the book in this post to get started. *Learn to constantly ask the question: "whose perspective is being told (and by whom?) and whose perspective is being ignored or silenced?" Ask that literally all the time. Hone it as habit. *Develop your courage and tolerance to be "wrong" and develop the "I don't know" or beginner mindset. (Looking at you, perfectionists. And everybody else πŸ˜‰.)

Speaking Down Barriers

A few nights ago, nearly 40 folks gathered to engage one another around #whiteness, white identity, and the work of #undoing an attachment to an identity that is destructive, both to ourselves and to others. The group considered what it means to engage in #sharedpower and #mutuality as opposed to continuing forward with a #culture of #dominance and #appropriation.
Through #storytelling, #deeplistening, and the #practice of being #mindful together, this group faced the topic of #reparations together.

The next Learning Us will take place in Greenville at the Phillis Wheatley Community Center, 6 PM, on March 13.

Focus: Ta-Nehesi Coates, "The Case for Reparations" found in #TheAtlantic

In some months or years, we will all look back on this period of time -- this presidency -- and reflect on how we showed up to injustice. That reflection -- marked permanently in historical action -- will be a truth about who we were and what we stood for. That future memory and feeling is not yet written. It is up to US to decide when, and how, and if we will compromise our values and humanity for the sake of comfort and privilege. The choice is yours. Not theoretically. Right now. How do you want to remember yourself and your humanity? #resist
