We're going to start the series by talking about the scapula (shoulder blade) and its' relationship to the rib cage. 💪👊✊💪👊✊💪👊✊ In order to transfer force from the body to the shoulder we need to have a solid foundation. Post 235: Rotational Stability

Let’s get something out of the way - twisting isn’t inherently bad! It always depends on context!
.
If you come to me saying that your knee or back hurts from twisting, am I going to tell you that twisting is terrible for you? Absolutely not! I’m going to try to identify why it’s currently painful or sensitive and gradually reintroduce it back into your life. I like to guide individuals so they are confident with movement variability.
.
Why? Because you don’t have to be a professional athlete to value rotation. No matter how much you try to avoid it (similar to lumbar flexion), you’re going to be twisting to some degree each day.
.
The pallof press, and its many variations, is a great starting point because it teaches anti-rotation. When clients become better at resisting the movement and are less symptomatic, then I generally utilize more explosive exercises.
.
This specific variation is fairly advanced for two primary reasons. One, the band around the knees increases activation of the glutes and further challenges the stiffness of the entire body. And two, the lateral movement makes the exercise more dynamic which requires more stability.
.
While the cable column is tough, the tension is constant so it doesn’t get more difficult the further you walk out. However, using a resistance band significantly increases the challenge as you step out.

Hello insta world!! The first video of many to come is here. I'm going to start with what I see most often effecting people. Low back pain and most often mechanical low back pain and SI Joint pain.

Most people who sit at a desk all day have their glutes (butt muscles) turned off. Now they go to stand up, walk around maybe even run and bang 🚨 low back pain. Now this occurs mainly because your main shock absorbers aka your glutes are not firing properly and now the forces placed on your body (gravity) ⏬are being dispersed through your low back and hamstrings. Heres a quick way to test your glutes and make sure they are firing properly. 🔸
In the next video Ill show you how to retrain and rewire your body to extend your hip properly and then how to strengthen your glutes! 🍑⏩

Sometimes I definitely lose sight of what I'm doing and why I'm doing it. Sometimes I am on a complete high and want to workout/run for hours straight, others I want to go weeks without either! Tonight though, I was reminded that my body is so strong! I have worked hard in the past and accomplished a lot of things I wanted to, and I know I can do it again! I will use this year to find and love myself more, regardless of the highs and lows of exercise. I will continue to eat healthy and work towards my purpose on this planet! I can and will do this!!!

Not sure if there's a better exercise that incorporates the full body like the Turkish Get-Up.

Great for shoulder stability, core stability, grooving the hip-hinge, and even balance. You name it, it likely incorporates it.

One of the biggest fears of the elderly is falling on the ground and not being able to get up. Not being able to get off the ground is actually a significant predictor of all-cause mortality for those aged 51-80 (LBB de Brito, 2012).

So start getting down on the ground and getting back up today. And you might as well do it loaded! 😏💪

❤️ This exercise has been done before but I wanted to share it again as it works so well with so many of my clients. Many of us experience tight lats, shoulders, and most importantly this exercise targets the serratus muscle which is very important. The serratus is responsible for the protraction of the scapula which is crucial to many athletic movements and everyday stuff we don't think about. .
