I saw #GoodTime again. Here are some thoughts:

The fast zoom into Pattinson's face after that cold opening might be my favorite shot of the year. Its so jarring, but in the best possible way. It's the Safdie's telling their audience how much of a force of nature this character is in literally half a second. It's beautiful filmmaking.

Then for them to end that character's story on another zoom, but one that moves so slowly that you're not really sure it even is a zoom until the frame is completely engulfed with Pattinson's face, full of hopelessness and regret.

I loved this movie when I saw it the first time, but I completely underrated it. This is a stone cold masterpiece.

The Tiger: An Old Hunter’s Tale finally completes my collection of all ten of Choi Min-sik’s Korean films to be released on bluray! Only missing his English-language debut Lucy (which was very underwhelming) and his small cameo in Taegukgi, the bluray of which is proving quite hard to come across. 😓 Really wishing some of his earlier films get a high-definition upgrade at some point, particularly Swiri and Crying Fist. He is one of my favourite actors, one of the most versatile actor working right now and you can be sure you’re in for a good time whenever you pick up one of his films to watch. Recently saw his latest The Mayor on a flight, and even though I’m sure it was censored in parts, it was still a brilliant film. What’s your favourite Choi Min-sik film?

Danielle Darrieux, one of France's most beloved actresses, died today. At 100yrs old, she had played in more than a hundred films between 1930 and 2010. The actress had lead many iconic roles, such as Madame De, Elisabeth "Bébé" Donge in "La vérité sur Bébé Donge", and worked under the direction of many talented movie directors : Max Ophüls, Henri Decoin, Claude Autant-Lara, Henri Verneuil...

Killer Condom, originally titled Kondom des Grauens and Attack Of The Killer Condom in Australia, is a 1996 German horror comedy directed by Martin Walz and written by Walz, Ralf König and Mario Kramp based on the comic books Kondom des Grauens and Bis auf die Knochen (Down to the Bones) by Ralf König.

Set in the seedy parts of New York City, Killer Condom follows gay Detective Luigi Mackeroni, who has been hired to investigate a series of bizarre attacks at the Hotel Quickie in which male guests have all had their penises mysteriously bitten off.

This movie is so ridiculous and the dialogue is absolutely hilarious. Probably not ideal viewing for any member of the male gender lol never the less I give this 🎃🎃🎃 3/5.

Kevin Smith To Donate Future Weinstein Residuals To -Women In Film-! Filmmaker Kevin Smith owes his career to Harvey Weinstein. The director got his big break in the early ’90s when Miramax, which Weinstein co-founded with his brother, bought the distribution to his low-budget indie film “Clerks” after the producer viewed it at the Sundance Film Festival.

Yet after a series of reports detailed Weinstein’s decades of sexual misconduct in recent weeks, Smith tweeted that he was “ashamed” to be profiting from his relationship with the producer while “others were in terrible pain.” “My entire career is tied up with the man,” Smith said on his podcast, recorded in front of a live audience. “It’s been a weird fucking week. I just wanted to make some fucking movies, that’s it. That’s why I came, that’s why I made ‘Clerks.’ And no fucking movie is worth all this. Like, my entire career, fuck it, take it. It’s wrapped up in something really fucking horrible.” -Kevin Smith.

Smith also mentioned that it’s possible that The Weinstein Company could fold, causing the movies to lose their value. Due to this possibility, the filmmaker also pledged to donate $2,000 to Women in Film every month for the rest of his life

Today's entry for #31daysofhorror is Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992). A friend brought this movie up to me today and while I think this film is flawed, director Francis Ford Coppola infuses the film with so much style that it's very easy to be immersed in the world it has created. The acting is a tad questionable by some but Gary Oldman steals the show as Dracula. Here are some fun facts about the film:
.
.
1. Gary Oldman hired a singing coach to help him lower his voice by an octave to help him give Dracula a more sinister quality.
.
.
2. At the first cast meeting called by Francis Ford Coppola, he got all the principal actors to read the entire Bram Stoker novel out loud to get a feel for the story. According to Sir Anthony Hopkins, it took two whole days to complete.
.
.
3. Gary Oldman was drunk the night they filmed the scene where he had to lick blood from Keanu Reeves' straight razor. The scene was filmed after midnight, which added to the spirit of the scene, and helped put the cast "in the proper mood".
.
.
4. Prince Vlad's scream after he drives his sword into the cross is not the voice of Gary Oldman. Lux Interior, lead singer of punk band The Cramps, recorded the scream, and it was dubbed in.
.
.
5. Francis Ford Coppola has openly criticized his own reasoning for casting Keanu Reeves as Jonathan Harker. According to him, he needed a young, hot star that would connect with the girls.
.
.
6. In an attempt to elicit more emotion, Francis Ford Coppola shouted "whore" and "slut" at Winona Ryder while filming the scene when Van Helsing catches Mina with Dracula.
.
.
7. Keanu Reeves said years after the movie came out, that he wasn't happy with his work in it, stating he had been exhausted from making several films right on the heels of signing on as Jonathan Harker, and that he tried to raise his energy for the role "but I just didn't have anything left to give."
.
.
8. Gary Oldman and Winona Ryder did not get along well at all during filming. The rest of the cast was shocked because the two had been friendly during rehearsals, then came back from a break in the schedule seemingly hating each other, with no indication given as to what had happened

Just Before Dawn, is a 1981 American independent slasher film directed by Jeff Lieberman and written by Lieberman, Mark Arywitz and Jonas Middleton.

The film follows a group of hikers who travel into the Oregon mountains to visit property inherited by one of them, only to be hunted by a ruthless backwoods killer.

Well that was a dud. This was a really weak take on the tired inbred hillbilly killer theme. The kills are not always on screen. The killers have this annoying whistle and even more annoying 50 back a day wheezy giggle which does my head in, and have the worst glue on bushy eyebrows. Cause bushy eyebrows are a true sign of inbreeding? The fights, or lack there of are boring and uneventful, the final scene is stupid and these women are in the woods obsessing over make up for reasons I as a woman will never understand. I also don’t understand how none of these people could outrun an extremely overweight moron who can’t even keep his pants up. Sorry but cult classic or not this just sucked. Nice scenery, crappy story. I give it 🎃 1/5.
