Did you know that oatmeal is really good for you?? As a result of it's high soluble fiber content, it's sugar is released more slowly into the blood stream (aka, it has a low glycemic index). Another added bonus: because it takes longer to digest, you will feel full longerβ€”wooooo! Just make sure you're not eating instant packets with a ton of sugar; I'm talking about cooking a pot of large flake or steel cut oats.
My bowl here is 1/2 cup raw oats with 1 cup water cooked in a pot, then I added 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, 1 tsp. maple syrup, 1 cup blueberries, 2 tbsp. slivered almonds. πŸ‘Œ Perfection!

Having one of those frustrating mornings. You know the kind where your husband wakes up with strep throat and can't take the kids to school? And you need him too because you have an 8:30 yoga class to teach. But your friend helps you out and picks up the kids, and all is going well....but you can't get out of the driveway because husband has his big truck blocking you in, and the keys are no where to be found. And you search for an eternity tearing up the house; meanwhile dog wanders over to a neighbor without you noticing. You're asking where are the keys, and your husband is miserable and just wants you to stop talking. And you finally find those keys (and now you're late). While playing musical cars and moving them out of the driveway, a police car stops you to tell you the big truck is blocking too much of the road: "can't you see I'm in the middle of that, officer?" And neighbor is staring at you, and has your dog and wonders why you don't seem to notice. And you just want to hit the re-do button....... #firstworldproblems My morning finally turned around about an hour ago (which was really lunchtime) when I had this green egg and tomato scramble. 3 of my favorite foods I can't live without: avocado, eggs, and arugula. I want to talk about EATING HEALTHY. I love the Anti Diet movement, but sometimes I feel the message is a bit skewed. Did eating healthy become a bad thing? It could just be me, but I feel like there is so much of a focus on saying "F you" to the diet industry that people sometimes forget it's okay to eat veggies too!

If you're life is cookies, cake, & pizza & you feel good, you're healthy, & you're happy then more power to you! (& if you're not healthy? That sucks...but it's your life & I support YOUR choices)

In my life I choose to eat healthy. This is what makes me feel my best & happiest.
"But I'm eating intuitively & all I crave are fun foods" you say? This is a great point! Eating intuitively is so important, but I believe your body isn't going to crave foods that it doesn't know are an option. If you never even look at a vegetable your body isn't going to know it's available!

I CRAVE vegetables ALL THE TIME now. I would have laughed at this years ago. I wouldn't have thought it was possible. I did not start craving healthy nutrient-dense foods until I started including them in my day! Once my body knew that these health promoting fods were an option it started asking for them.. & often!
.
I believe you CAN follow a healthy lifestyle without it becoming a diet..I know many would disagree.
.
Restricting is not good for you obviously.. but eating 100% fun foods all the time isn't necessarily good for you either! Obviously if it came down to it eating only Oreos is a billion times better than restriction...but lucky for us these aren't our only two options!
.
Apples, almonds, steak...these are all foods we can enjoy too! Eating & not restricting your body is SO important. Eating foods that NOURISH your body is SO important as well!
.
Just because you're recovering from an eating disorder doesn't mean you have to cram whatever you can into your mouth to put on the weight as quickly as possible. If this is the method you prefer no judgement here! I personally still care about the quality of what I put in my body & how it makes me FEEL

You CAN find a healthy balance... But ONLY if YOU want toπŸ˜‰

{January 18th} Happy Wednesday! A big funky-looking brain food feast before I submit myself to reading approximately a bajillion pages! πŸ“–πŸ“š But hey, they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and this beholder πŸ™‹πŸΌ was much too distracted by the delicious flavors happening to get too dismayed about the lack of aesthetics on this plate! Kimchi + Siggi's is officially my new favorite veggie dip -- probiotics by the dozen & an added bit of protein! πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ”πŸΆ I just mixed about half of a container of Plain @siggisdairy with ~2T @wildbrine Probiotic Japanese Kimchi and threw it in a pepper 🌢 bowl!
