Today was a big training day for me! Legs and a 4mi run have me eating alllllll the carbs! 🀀 My strength in box squats has gotten so much stronger. Up to 175# without really exerting a ton of energy (trying not to burn out my legs before my race). Was a great day!

51 days out - getting it done! The 2018 Crossfit Games season kicked off tonight with the announcement of 18.1 ... surprisingly I don’t hate it! It’s going to be challenging with my lungs in their current state but I’m going scaled and for 20 minutes I will do my best! It’s funny because I’ve been doing Dumbbell hang power clean and presses in my workouts for awhile now, and I feel I’ve gotten pretty good at rowing! The seemingly endless debate on low carb vs low fat caloric restriction on weight loss is in my opinion fueled by 1. mixed anecdotal claims, 2. Broscience, and 3. mixed outcomes in the scientific literature. As for the latter, limitations to study design and methods such as small sample sizes, relatively short term treatment periods, very heterogenous subject pool, or crude monitoring of dietary compliance and acitvity, introduce confounding factors that could in in turn influence the interpretation of research findings. As a result, we have no real empirical consensus on the low fat vs. low carb debate. However, just recently one of the most comprehensive randomized control trials was published in JAMA. This study examined the weight loss of 609 male or female subjects undergoing 12 weeks of either a low fat or low carb caloric restriction diet. The grouos demonstrated no differences in caloric intake at 3, 6, and 12 months. The data analysis at the 12 month follow up showed no significant difference between the two dietary treatments in total weight loss and change in resting metabolic rate (other variables also tested). This study, considering its magnitude, provides decently strong evidence suggesting that caloric deficit is indeed the main driver of weight loss. In my opinion, macronutrient composition in caloric restrictive diets (at least for fat and carbs... protein πŸ‘) may be more relevant and impactful in already "healthy" weight individuals such as someone with above average body composition looking for a bit more fat loss. The study is unfortunately closed access but check it out on examine.com (a great resource). Next up: are there genetic predispositions to low carb or low fat diet responses?

My first ever headstand. Again this may be easy for some but it takes every ounce of focus and tension and locking in form to get here. Im shaking so bad the first one because i was afraid to fall lol. This took Months of practicing and strengthening. Creating stability in my posterior chain. All my injuries are making amazing progress. My legs aren't as straight as I wish they could be, but hey I'm still super excited I did this!
