I have to say the last 2 days were a very spiritual experience for me. My eldest daughter has a school project on Canadian heritage. She chose #HarrietTubman as her theme. For those of you who don't know, Harriet was a slave who freed her self and saved over 300 people from slavery. She was an integral part of the #Undergroundrailroad and served as a nurse and a spy for the Union Army during the civil war. Many freed slaves ended up resting in Pennsylvania and New York State....Harriet went as far as #StCatherines Ontario in the Niagara Region sowing roots here and attending #Salemchapel Methodist church on present day Geneva street, before living full time in Auburn New York where she continued to help people until her passing! The church is still active ( We attended church today ) and sits as an historic site. There are many repairs to be done to bring the church to its former glory, while aiding in the preservation of it's rich history. I have always loved Harriet's story and have even wrote a 20minute musical for children about her life. Today my daughter's and I had a chance to attend service, look at relics from the past and speak to Ada and other members of the church whose ancestors attended the congregation a good 100 years ago! I was so intrigued today by these women and the stories and information Ada was telling my daughters that my interest cannot surely end with my daughter's project. I would love to help raise money and see the preservation that is needed...I have an idea but I'm going to need your help, especially my musical friend's and family....Stay Tuned! #Gladiatortillthecasketdrop

Bang Brain black history honoree of the day #158 Today’s honoree is civil rights activist Harriet Tubman. Tubman was born into slavery, she was beating and whipped multiple slave masters during her childhood. She escaped from slavery and made approximately 13 missions to rescue approximately 70 enslaved people. Using antislavery activists and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad. Thank you Harriet Tubman for your bravery and your selflessness to safe others from slavery. #bangbrainentertainment #BangBrain #blackexellence #blackhistorymonth #harriettubman #undergroundrailroad

In the first 14 days of Black History Month we remembered and paid homage to our bountiful beloved black fathers...men of light, courage and vision.

During the remaining days of February we reflect on our young beautiful black sisters who struggle to see /embrace their unique natural beauty, have not been covered/honored/protected from emotional,
physical, psychological abuse, and simply do not know Love...we LIFT them in love, light and healing. In the this month we remember S.H.E. Soulful Healing Earth .

An amazing trip for #blackhistorymonth . The Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad museum. Bought two books of first-person slave narratives. These stories should never fade away, and may all of their memories be for blessings for us and all our descendants forever.

Press play ▶️ to learn about the trail blazer Claudette Colvin.

Most people think of Rosa Parks as the 1st person to refuse to give up their seat on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama. There were actually several women who came before her; one of whom was #ClaudetteColvin.

It was March 2, 1955, when the fifteen-year-old schoolgirl refused to move to the back of the bus, nine months before #RosaParks’ stand that launched the #Montgomery bus boycott. Claudette had been studying Black leaders like Harriet Tubman in her segregated school, those conversations had led to discussions around the current day Jim Crow laws they were all experiencing.

When the bus driver ordered Claudette to get up, she refused, “It felt like #SojournerTruth was on one side pushing me down, and #HarrietTubman was on the other side of me pushing me down. I couldn't get up." Claudette Colvin’s stand didn’t stop there. Arrested and thrown in jail, she was one of four women who challenged the #segregation law in court. If Browder v. Gayle became the court case that successfully overturned bus segregation laws in both Montgomery and Alabama, why has Claudette’s story been largely forgotten?

At the time, the #NAACP and other Black organizations felt Rosa Parks made a better icon for the movement than a teenager. As an adult with "the right look," Rosa Parks was also the secretary of the NAACP, and was both well-known and respected – people would associate her with the middle class and that would attract support for the cause.

But the struggle to end segregation was often fought by young people, more than half of which were women.

Happy Sunday inspiration ⛅️🙌 "the Moses of her people" – Harriet Tubman was an amazing & inspirational woman in every way. The cards were stacked against her from childhood on, yet she found a way to use her strength and conviction to save herself and hundreds of others throughout her lifetime. From being one of the best conductors of the Underground Railroad to her humanitarian work and more, she never gave up on making a better life for those around her. Find out more in our book! Harriet Tubman
Also known as: Minty, Moses
•
From a young age, Harriet Tubman has been one of my biggest inspirations. She was an American abolitionist, humanitarian, and an armed scout/spy for the United States Army during the American Civil War.
•
Tubman was born into slavery. At a young age, a slave owner threw a heavy metal weight at her, resulting in a traumatic wound to the head. Her whole life she suffered from pain, dizziness, and hypersomnia.
•
In 1849 she escaped to Philadelphia, then immediately returned to rescue her family. One group at a time, she brought relatives with her out of the state, and eventually guided dozens of other slaves to freedom. Traveling secretly by night, Harriet never lost a passenger.
•
✊🏿 13+ missions to rescue slaves.
✊🏽 70 enslaved humans freed.
✊🏾 Utilized the network of antislavery activists and safe houses - also known as the Underground Railroad.
✊🏼 Helped recruit men for a raid on Harpers Ferry.
✊🏿 Active participant in the struggle for women's suffrage.
•
Harriet Tubman is an American hero. She deserves to be celebrated in this country - not just during Black History Month... but every single damn day. 🇺🇸
