Because 'all work and no play can lead to getting your fingers cut off' I have decided to take next some time off next week. But only after getting a couple of contracts out the door, organizing some pre-marketing for all the music and community events for the next month...and a trip to Omaha. #bosslady #latenight #historian #culture #writer #creative #music #history #community #polisculturalplanning

It is always an experience watching Joseph Igwe talk architecture. Equally interesting, is how he talks about life. A while ago, the faculty was documenting personality and opinions of younger scholars and much older Masters of thought... it was to comemorate the birthday of a faculty member. I was honoured to be in the list, but more exciting was being in a group so contrasted in personality and experience. Joseph Igwe brought so much to fore as he talked about the history of architectural education in Nigeria as well as in Lagos. It's refreshing to hear from someone who actually predates the period. With about 5 decades of experience, his narrative flies through timelines with the accuracy and dexterity only a grand historian can conjure. Surprisingly, his skills span through the range of architectural methodology as he is also a very good CAD user. He was the first CAD proficient architect in the southwest. Moren recently: In an age where architects in their late 30's are even to lazy or reluctant to try new methods: is him! I remember working a complex project on the computer and I almost fell off the chair when Igwe said "Stephen let me have the mouse, there is actually a faster way to model this" and he was actually right 😁. Koleoso did a good job with this particular session, hidden in time and maybe location because Igwe didn't want a crowd.

Flashback Friday inspo! Working on GRE, personal statement, and editing my writing sample. All while taking breaks and coloring/doodling on my new amazing bday present!

It's a galaxy book (2-in-1 laptop/tablet) that makes it so much easier for me to read, research, organize, write! It's amazing! So now even in a flare I can work easier - super useful considering I'm still in a flare!

Sending love! And getting down to work! 😉✊🏾

"The 🇯🇵 I-400-class submarines" - (Part 11 = The attack on Ulithi atoll is never launched as Japan surrenders) •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• First photo - November 1945: The I-400, I-401, and I-14 tied up to the USS Euryale (AS-22) in Sasebo, Japan just prior to their transit to Pearl Harbor. ------------------------------------------ Second photo - The main control room of an I-400-class submarine. ------------------------------------------ Just before departing Maizuru Naval Station, the Seirans were completely over-painted in silver with American stars and bars insignias covering the red Hinomarus, a direct violation of the rules of war. This was an attempt to further confuse recognition if the aircraft were prematurely spotted, but it was not well received by the pilots. Some felt it was both unnecessary and a personal insult to fly under American markings, as well as dishonorable to the Imperial Navy. Following the attack on Ulithi, I-400 and I-401 would sail for Hong Kong. There they would take on six more Seirans and sail for Singapore, where fuel oil was more readily available. They would then join I-13 and I-14 and stage further attacks with a combined force of ten Seiran aircraft. ------------------------------------------ On June 22nd 1945, I-13 and I-14 arrived at Maizuru Harbor to take on fuel. They reached Ominato on July 4th to pick up their Saiun reconnaissance aircraft. I-13 departed for Truk on July 11th but never reached her destination. She was detected running on the surface, attacked, and damaged by radar-equipped TBM Avengers on July 16th. An American destroyer escort later arrived and sank her with depth charges. ⬇️⬇️ continued

Check out the latest Memory Stream for @phillydotcom (link in bio). These days, everybody is talking about fake news. Though the rapid and seemingly uncontrollable spread of fake news stems from distinctly modern phenomena — trolls, social media, and computer data analytics — political opponents accusing each other of spreading false stories is as old as the U.S. press itself.

Take, for example, the rhetorical warfare waged by William Cobbett, a British journalist who published the Porcupine’s Gazette in Philadelphia from 1797 to 1800. Under the pen name “Peter Porcupine,” Cobbett wrote screeds filled with libelous insults that tested the boundaries of the United States’ still-nascent free press.

Today and the last three days I participate in a workshop with one fellow bachelor's student, doctoral candidates, habilitation candidates, professors and PhDs from the history and the art history sections. We basically discuss about material culture and the function of objects within a museum's exhibition. For that cause we visited the Town museum of Erlangen yesterday and elaborated our thoughts on the example of the "Hugenottener Wirkstuhl", kind of a knitting machine which was brought to Erlangen by the french faith refugees in the early modern times.
Today we had a long day in the German National Museum in Nuremberg and worked with curators and restorers on the example of an ottoman carpet from the 16th century which represents the intercultural relations of the Siebenbürgen-Sachsen citizens in Romania.
The whole workshop is highly interesting not only because of the fact only I and one fellow student have the chance to work with the elite university scientists in our country and also from Cambridge but also because of the insight we get when we visit these museums not from the perspective of a normal visitor but from the perspective of a historian. 📖🎓✍
