After finishing Agatha Christie's Parker Pyne Investigates, The Librarian of Auschwitz is next on my reading list. It is a powerful book based on the true "story of a young Auschwitz prisoner who risked her life to keep the magic of books alive during the Holocaust." I am already preparing myself for the emotional journey awaiting me. -馃幎H

I think I posted about this a while back, but I鈥檓 still pissed. First off, gun owners are not being 鈥減ersecuted鈥 in any way, shape or form. People are literally saying 鈥渓ets make it harder to get guns less children get shot鈥. That is not persecution. To use Holocaust imagery is implying that there is some sort of genocide against people with guns or that gun-owners鈥 human rights are being taken away. That is simply false and insulting to Holocaust survivors. This is not okay. - maya

There are 17,800 shirts in this room. Each shirt represents a child that was killed during the holocaust. Now times that by 90 and that鈥檚 the total amount of children that lost there lives in the holocaust. Anne Frank was the voice for those children who didn鈥檛 have one and her voice carries on till this day. We need a change in this world a change for all voices to be heard and actually doing something about it.

We went to a local Anne Frank production and Marissa came out with many questions, some of which I unfortunately cannot answer鈥攅specially "Why?"

鈿笍Legislation and events leading to the #holocaust 鈿笍 As early as 1920, the #nazi party published a 25-point plan including how to segregate Jews from Aryan society. Winning the 1932 election, and Hitler鈥檚 appointment as chancellor, provided a platform by which the Nazi party could act on these plans. Opposition parties were banned and #Dachau camp opened in March 1933 as a prison for political prisoners, mostly socialists and communists. 1933 also saw Jews restricted to civil service, education, certain jobs and healthcare access. Jews were banned from the army, and in 1934 banned from being in films. Jewish religious traditions, such as Kosher slaughter, were banned. Jewish owned business was seized semi-legally, and Jews had their citizenship revoked. At the same time, Hitler and his party cracked down on political opposition. A young communist, Marinus van der Lubbe, started a fire at the German parliament (Reichstag), and this was used to arrest thousands of communists, including all parliamentary communists. In 1935 the #Nuremburg laws came into action, forbidding marriage and sex between Jews and non-Jews, and the classification of non-Germanic citizens as state property without rights. Jews leaving Germany would be taxed up to 90%, making emigration difficult. The Nazis also burned books from left wing, religious, pacifist or Jewish authors. By 1938 Gypsy heritage was now being racially discriminated, and Jews had to carry identification cards. The 1938 Kristallnacht saw Jewish businesses, synagogues and more burned and broken into overnight. Immediately after, Jewish citizens were banned from schools, cinemas, designated Aryan zones, and by 1939 child euthanasia had come into action. Germany had been committing genocide against local Herero and Namaqua people in imperial Namibia. The war鈥檚 outbreak meant the opening of camps for Jews, Polish intelligentsia, communists and gypsies. This was extended to prisoners of war, Serbs, homosexuals, catholics and disabled people. Using freight or cattle trains, people were transported to camps for work with poor hygiene and food. On the invasion of Poland, the Einsatzgruppen (death squads) first started.
