Skinny is no longer a goal for me. I'd be lying if I said it never was. I spent most of my youth longing to be thin. To be able to shop for cute clothes made for skinny bodies. To be able to go into my closet and pick out an outfit effortlessly. Even at my skinniest, I wasn't healthy, inside or out. I wish I could tell the younger me that wanting to be skinny is silly. What's not silly is building strength, stamina, and self-confidence. I wish I could tell her to love her every curve, be kind to herself, and work hard to get healthy, not skinny. Back then I lacked the knowledge to do what's best for my body. I've learned so much since then. Since doing 'The Murph' Crossfit WOD I've integrated an evening run into my weekly routine on 'active recovery' day along with a yoga flow session in the morning. Having for years cycled everywhere, running is not my forte and although its somewhat counter intuitive to hypertrophy, I can't deny the functionality of being able to cover a few kms on foot. If there's an element of training you don't particularly enjoy maybe you should do more of it. Turn your weaknesses into strengths. Banged out 7km with 20lb vest, for extra suck factor, in 35.50, 5 minutes faster than last week. Hardly record breaking, but improving every week and sharpening the sword of the will. Focusing on the breath, positive self-talk, getting more comfortable being uncomfortable, pushing boundaries.
