Today was #legday and I finish most days with a little ab work. It doesn't take much to maintain a 6 pack (even in October, and honestly I shouldn't even have one right now 🤔) but the abdominals actually have a function besides looking nice or sexy or whatever. And that is to protect the organs and spine, prevent the back from going into hyperextension, and, in this case, flex the spine from the ribcage to the pelvis. It is important to know that when the pelvis is rotated anteriorly that it is pulling the abs down and lengthening them, or stretching them. The opposite of flexing them! To get full contraction out of your abs make sure you are tucking your pelvis under and squeezing your glutes! I tell my clients to "hide their butt". - - -

It’s critical to a have a solid foundation of muscle fiber to support our bone structure. It’s a good idea to load our muscles with as many nuclei as we can while we’re young , it will greatly benefit us as we age because a) building muscle gets harder in our later years and b) persistent muscle loss is one of the most serious health risks associated with aging. Alright guys, glute exercises are all over the place these days! 👀You wanna build that booty? Go for it! 🍑🍑
However, if you are not properly stretching the muscle group that you have just worked out, then you are in turn wearing out your muscles and you will be more sore and tired the next day. Stretching can also release endorphins— those things that make you feel good after a working up a sweat! I myself am guilty of not stretching as often as I should, I’ll admit it! As a result, I get really nasty cramps in my calves and sometimes my hamstrings. In order to save you from some potential cramps: try these!! These aren’t anything fancy, just some things that I’ve learned and took from yoga.
1️⃣while placing your leg on top of your oposite knee, push your chest into your knee, you will feel it more.
2️⃣you are basically folding your body over your bent knee and stretching the other leg outward.
3️⃣lunge forward and when you feel comfortable (and not off balance like me😅) grab your back foot and pull. ~~Haha, that face you make when somebody walks through your video - I thought this was too funny not to put in. 🤣🤷🏼‍♀️
4️⃣ this one is basic- lying down stretch your leg upwards and flex and point your toes.
5️⃣ this stretch also hits the obliques area nicely. Grabbing your knee with your oposite hand, bring it to the outside of your opposite leg and turn your head the other way while reaching with your arm.
Remember, take your time!!! Try not to rush through your stretches to save yourself from any pain and soreness later! 😖I know I always rush through my stretches but it’s a habit I’m trying to break!
