One of my favorite podcasts is @onbeing , by Krista Tippett. It’s a little more woo-woo than most of the clinical, sciencey things that I usually go for, but there is always something about it that sticks with me.
One of the episodes I come back to over and over again is called “buoyancy and burn out in our lives”, and is an interview with Joan Halifax. Krista and Joan talk about “empathic distress” and how that is slightly different from what people call “compassion fatigue”. Empathic Distress is an emotional state that comes from being unable to draw emotional boundaries to the impact that outside circumstances or experiences have on you, especially for people in care occupations, or people who deeply internalize the feelings and needs of others. (🙋🏼‍♀️ hi, hello, it’s me). And the end of the episode discussed how we are constantly faced with tragedy, injustice, things to fight against, push back on. “No”. But a way to guard against empathic distress is to consider your “yes”; what are the things internally, in your home, your community that you can fight for, build up in a way that protects your internal experience from the existential hopelessness of a fight that you cannot individually win.
It’s a tiny reframing that can bring stillness and peace to a world that is frustrating and turbulent. I’ve been thinking about what my yeses are a lot recently, and how I can incorporate that into my platform here. So many of you messaged me about how much you enjoy my mental health content, and I am so excited for the things I am planning to continue to share things that can educate, inspire and hopefully touch you all in ways that help you to grow. 💗🙏🏼 #mentalhealthwithmaggie

I believe that the people who experience the most loss live the most. They feel too much all the time and know not to take anything for granted. They live with every fibre of their being and hold nothing back - they aren't afraid, they're alive.

On this day, I learned how to work through sadness and embrace the goodness in life without feeling guilty. On this day, I woke up at 6am to do a final presentation, finding a missed call from one of my best friends from home. On this day, I learned that I lost my friend, someone I mentored, to suicide.

I've experienced a lot of loss, and it has shaped me in so many ways. The one that impacted me the most was the loss of my best friend/roommate in an accident in 2011. It changed the course of my life forever. But it made so much stronger. Had I not gone through that experience, I don't know if I would have been able to escape this one with my head straight.

It was an alignment in the stars, because that weekend, a friend of mine, someone I consider a sister, was there and made me feel home again. She made me learn to deal and manage to be happy in spite of the fact that I felt like I was spinning out of control without being able to be there for my friends back home. And for that I am forever grateful. ...........

With that, I start my Barcelona series! While the story is sombre, the message is inspiring. Many people are living to die instead of dying to live. Many people breathe air on this earth but don't fill their lungs with an air of excitement or life. Many people have a life but forget to live. And people struggle with figuring out how to live, truly live - it's not always as easy and hopping on a plane for some. But as long as they're seeking inspiration and trying, it counts.

Life’s problems don’t usually go away by themselves. You have to go deeper to untangle problems. If you are struggling, learn all you can about what is involved in your struggle. Read books, talk to people, meditate. Learn from and about what is making you suffer. What does that look like? If, say, you are in a toxic relationship, or suffering from panic attacks, or unhappy at work, start by brainstorming everything about the problem. Write it down. Go to the library and find books on the subject. Google articles. Make an appointment with a therapist. See your doctor. Seek out an older, mature adult and ask them for advice. Don’t stop seeking until the answer to your problem reveals itself. Waiting for things to change is wasting precious time. #lifeisshort💌 -

hey leute.
tut mir leid, dass ich mich schon "länger" nicht mehr gemeldet habe aber ja.
Mir gings einfach echt dreckig weil ich mich in der TK im Moment sehr unwohl und unter Druck gesetzt fühle.
Zudem ist meine Oma seit heute aus dem Krankenhaus raus und man merkt wie sie langsam einfach "nachlässt" und ich möchte jetzt auf jeden Fall mehr Zeit mit ihr verbringen weil mir das ganze echt auch zu schaffen macht.
Außerdem versuche ich gerade nach und nach den ganzen Schulstoff nachzuholen und zu lernen gerade bin ich bei Mathe und Englisch. Ich merke echt wie sehr ich vor allem in den Nebenfächern & Französisch hinterher hänge und auch das macht mir sehr zu schaffen.

Meine ES wird gerade zwischen durch auch wieder lauter aber ich versuche es zu verdrängen.
Im Moment wirkt sich meine Psyche auch wieder mehr auf meinen Körper aus in dem mir alles weh tut etc.

Sonst gibt es nicht wirklich was neues ich bin weiter am kämpfen.

On this day it has been a year since my friend Jess passed away. You were one of a select group of people I could always talk to and trust, I miss you sweetheart, we all miss you so much ❤️ usually I run a short distance then walk and repeat the sequence, tonight however I ran a near half mile before needing to walk for 2 mins then powered through again. I forgot to change my charity to WWF tonight but for the next few days I be running for that charity for Jess. Easy 5km for RedRun 20 of 31 for #runeverydayjanuary 🏃🏼‍♀️ It’s been a long day, with a headache that wouldn’t quit, rain that kept on coming, and a bounce-a-go-go disco 🎉party thrown into the mix. Didn’t get out till dark, and did my little out and back 5km route. Chilled out pace and now feeling chilled out. Can’t believe we are on day 20.
