After watching Jim Carey's documentary of his art-- I felt inspired! I LOVE to draw and yet I never make time for it. So last night I got my sketch book and started to draw. After I was done sketching I realized how therapeutic drawing is for me. Too many times people find unhealthy ways to cope with what ever it is they are going through (me included) I spent too many years hiding behind alcohol. It looked like I was just being "social" but found myself drink my problems away-- I became a person I didn't like and didn't recognize myself half the time. So grateful I was able to find a way out--- and that's what FITNESS was for me. I was working so hard on myself (outer being) and I wasn't focusing on my soul. I still felt I was missing something. Then I was introduced to Self growth. It doesn't happen over night, it's HARD WORK.
I share this in hopes that someone else can also be inspired to find a healthy way to cope with LIFE.

Shift 35 and Shift Core are done!! βœ”βœ”βœ” YEAH BABY! So many NSVs this week!! I'm getting so much stronger and my clothes are fitting so much better, and some are TOO BIG and it's time to donate them!!! And BTW the freaking scale went up 3 pounds this week, so um yeah, SCREW the scale!! Today I used heavier weights, worked towards conquering that hungry bear move, and did more reps on a lot of the moves today. And in Shift Core I did more ab work without modification as well. The wiper half circles and the V taps with no modification and the swimmers off and on with modification. TRUST THE PROCESS!!!! 3 years ago I began my fitness "journey" after hitting a low point. I'd gone through a series of traumatic events that left my mind spinning. I'd struggled with severe anxiety and depression for most of my life, but it had become amplified by these events... and I gave up. Everything. I stopped doing things I loved. I stopped talking to friends and family. I couldn't even get myself out of bed most days. I was exhausted and miserable and unmotivated.
I began to see the light at the end of the tunnel when i started exercising sporadically. I noticed the massive shift in my energy when I moved. I realized that if I wanted to get better-- to change my life -- I needed to change my lifestyle.
This epiphany created a snowball effect. The more I worked out, the better I felt, and I made better choices -- with food, with work, with relationships... I was more productive and more confident. I was HAPPIER. And it wasn't because of how I looked. Health and fitness taught me that I am in control of my life, my feelings, my success, my confidence, my happiness... I'm not saying that all my problems have magically gone away, or that I don't stumble from time to time, but health and fitness teaches you things about yourself that you never knew before. It shows you how resilient you are; how strong you are; and it makes you realize that you are capable of so much more than you could have imagined.

This is why I take pride in my body. Because it has pulled me through hell to where I am now, standing tall and proud and pushing forward and succeeding. I'm surprised to hear from people who are surprised to hear that coaches are not always excited to train. Or that they find lifts difficult. Or that they have fear and anxiety about certain lifts. Or that they often fail many times before succeeding. .
I get why people may believe those things, but they couldn't be further from the truth! It almost always takes me a while to get in the flow for a training session, especially when I'm cold and tired and tempted to just put on all of my sweatshirts and crocodile breathe for an hour. And any lift that is going to push my limits mentally or physically is going to cause some degree of anxiety. It's up to me to choose how I respond to and manage that anxiety.

While I've been enjoying lightweight overhead squats, things got real yesterday with three digit OH squat triples on the menu. 100 lbs is 50% of my lifetime best back squat 1RM, and, after ~20 jerks in the 80% range, my shoulders were a little less than fresh.
.
I lost the bar twice when jerking the bar into position and again after just one squat. But I knew the prescribed weight and volume was well within my capability and that I was just getting in my own head. So I picked that bar back up. I did a few diaphragmatic breaths with the bar on my back before jerking it up. I tried again until I succeeded, not allowing fear and minor failures to truncate my session prematurely.

Doggedness in sticking with it allowed me to complete my sets feeling successful rather than defeated and to move on to the next part of my program with the confidence that I'll be able to add another five pounds next week.

Some days you just may not have it physically, and that's fine. But if you find yourself giving up quickly in response to difficult situations (in or out of the gym), ask yourself if you've given your best effort. If you haven't, do what you need to do to reset yourself mentally (deep breathing is a great option!), have faith in yourself, and try again.

Hope everyone is having a good day. Life has been so busy for me and finally have some days off to spend with my kids before they start a new year of school. We all have some struggles that we face in our lives. I know at time I hope for perfection but i know it's not real. I learn to love the imperfection. It's ok to be sad, feel down when things aren't going the way you wanted but don't just stay down. I believe that God wouldn't put all the struggles, people, things there if he thought I couldn't handle it. I just have to be faithful and know that I'm strong and just do my best. As my daily routine I pray, thank God for everything I have, how blessed I am. Smile on my face because i know everything will be OK. I may not be the best mother, wife but I know I've given my all. Today's one of those days that makes me glad I work 12 - 16 hours most days. Good weather meant I've downed tools and had some quality time, both with my family and by myself. .
It's like saving tokens - work hard and long when the weather's dud to not feel guilty having some time off when it's good. I've still recorded some more videos, taken photo's for a client's website and optimised some Facebook ads, whilst having some space to breathe.

It's got me excited about my work tonight and allowed my brain to work out solutions to a couple of problems I've faced. .
