Emotions are like waves. They crash onto the beach, but eventually they recede. When we are in the midst of overwhelming emotion, we often feel like we need to DO something immediately to stop it from happening. Often, this is counterproductive. If our body needs to feel sad, it needs to feel sad. The sadness will eventually recede. If we work so hard not to feel anxiety, it teaches us that we can’t tolerate any fear and we become anxious all the time, fearing the arrival of anxiety. I picked this quote today because it helps us remember that even when things are stormy and difficult, it will pass.

Have you ever tried out the power of mirroring? 👭

In our last play session I consciously tried to pay ultimate attention to Nathans movements. I tried to copy them and looked what would emerge. •
Whenever he took a step with his right hoof, I followed with my right foot as well. Whenever he shifted his weight, I did as well. What did happen after this?

At first I noticed how unconscious those little things were to me before. I thought I knew a lot about his typical behaviors and that I could predict his reactions quite good. But during this exercise it became clear that this wasn't the case!

Suddenly I recognized all the little things he did, I never took into account! For example how he often initiates a movement by at first turning his head to the counterside. Or how he shifts his weight almost invisibly before he tells me that he is ready to continue. •
At first, I was only the observer. I gathered all those informations about him and only mirrored him in what he did. Surprisingly, it didn't take long before he started to mirror me back as well. Of course this has happened before already, but not as conscious as I experienced it that day. I noticed that he was much more concentrated on our joint task and much more precise and sharp in his reactions then he is with me normally 😎.

The mirroring also took away much of the pressure I normally put on him when I stand in front of him and watch and wait for him to act. This allowed for him to become even more eager and it seems that this helped creating the context for intrinsic motivation as well. So now I am curious, if you ever did this as well? Viel zu oft, viel zu ernst.
So habe ich die Arbeit in Unternehmen - groß oder klein - oft erlebt.
Beim Bier nach Feierabend sind die Leute dann auf einmal komplett locker und aufgeschlossen, bei der Arbeit zugeknöpft, ernst und im Bullshit-Bingo-Kauderwelsch unterwegs. Klar, hat das seine Gründe und ich sage nicht, ab jetzt bitte alle mit Stammtischlaune in die Meetings. Aber ein bisschen mehr Lockerheit darf schon sein, oder?
"Ja aber, wie soll das gehen?"
Ganz einfach, fang mit deinem Körper an. Und vor allem: fang DU an! Warte nicht, bis die anderen sich ändern. 😜

Körper und Geist sind so eng miteinander verknüpft - das wussten die Menschen schon TAUSENDE von Jahren vor uns.
Lockerst du deinen Körper ein wenig, kann es gut sein, dass auch deine Stimmung, deine Gedanken und dein ganzes Befinden etwas lockerer wird.

Zum Beispiel Hände und Füße kräftig ausschütteln. Geht auch im Büro ;) Kannst du ein bisschen mehr Lockerheit in deinem (Arbeit-)Alltag gebrauchen?
