I am honestly growing through what I went through. I honestly have to thank God for keeping me. Life has been a journey but I am honestly so happy for my future. I am honestly blessed and favored. Never give up on your dreams no matter how far they seem. Trust me hang in there.

Queen Hatshepsut of Ancient Egypt - a definite favourite at the moment. This week has been all checking out Egypt’s New Kingdom, finding out stuff about birds of prey and getting started on the human body as the kids are asking SO many questions I can’t answer. They did a really fun little unit on Mystery Science on how the heart works, perfect for Valentine’s week. We also finished Geraldine McCaughrean’s adaptation of The Odyssey (Talitha’s read aloud) and James Herriot’s Treasury for Children (Ophelia’s read aloud). We’ve started The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe for Talitha and Ophelia’s first chapter book read aloud, My Father’s Dragon. Then today, we had to cancel plans to go see friends so I grabbed my handy dandy box of Chinese New Year stuff and let them go wild with it while I chilled on the sofa because I’m somehow ill yet again.

This is the intact coffin of a 5 year-old boy who lived, briefly, during Egypt's 17th Dynasty, 3,600 years ago.
A Spanish team working at Dra Abu el-Naga, just north of Hatshepsut's memorial temple, uncovered the child's coffin in January 2013.
Oddly, whilst researchers think that this area was reserved for members of the royal family, yet this coffin was found undecorated and without any inscription bearing the child's name.
Here the boy's coffin is placed in the tomb of Djehuty, supervisor of the treasury of Queen Hatshepsut, ready for closer examination and opening.

Queen Hatshepsut (1479-1458BCE, ancient Egypt) Talk about “they tried to bury us, they didn’t know we were seeds”! You know that famous Valley of the Kings? Well, she started it. As the first full on female ruler of Egypt she avoided civil war, erected one of the wonders of ancient Egypt – and still after her death they tried to erase all evidence of her reign, succeeding until the 19th century when all her badassery was discovered!
“Hatshepsut was the first female ruler of ancient Egypt to reign as a male with the full authority of pharaoh. She began her reign as regent to her stepson Thuthmose III...who would succeed her and, initially, ruled as a woman as depicted in statuary. In around the seventh year of her reign, however, she chose to be depicted as a male pharaoh in statuary and reliefs though still referring to herself as female in her inscriptions. Hatshepsut, though not the first or last, is undoubtedly the best known female ruler of ancient Egypt after Cleopatra VII and one of the most successful monarchs in Egyptian history. Her temple at Deir el-Bahri remains one of the most impressive and often visited in Egypt... Hatshepsut built on a grander scale than any pharaoh before her and, except for Ramesses II none who came after.
One of her inscriptions reads: I have restored what was destroyed. I have raised up what had been shattered…
Her numerous inscriptions, monuments, and temples all demonstrate how unprecedented her reign was: no woman before her had ruled the country openly as pharaoh. Further, her name was erased from her monuments following her death which strongly suggests that someone, most likely Thutmose III, wanted to remove all evidence of her from history. Later scribes never mention her and her many temples and monuments were often claimed to be the works of later pharaohs. Her existence came to light [in the early 1800s] when Champollion found he could not reconcile hieroglyphics indicating a female ruler with statuary obviously depicting a male. These hieroglyphics were found in the inner chambers of Hatshepsut's temple at Deir el-Bahri; all public recognition of her had been erased. ” –Ancient History Encyclopedia (contd below)
