Most people would have an adverse reaction to this but this only proves that an #apexpredatornotmonster like the #greatwhite #shark is not into #humans like most may think. #SharkIDScoopfin doing her thing🙌🏼 one of our favorite ladysharks known for her sassy ways has been the most common OG female at the site since the end of mating season and was seen on our morning charter yesterday🦈 The eponymous scoop at the base of her dorsal is shared with a sandbar also named Scoopfin, a tiger shark named Riley, and tiger shark named Gador. It's possible there may be a genetic link to the presence of this trait

#WhiteShark and Diver. Love this video, the rarely highlighted fact that #greatwhitesharks swim past people on a regular basis. Absolute testament to their sensory systems that it did not try to taste him, this guy looks like a seal and is prying #abalone which are hemophiliacs and so there would be #marineanimal blood scenting the water too. I would never advise to dive in bad visibility because sharks rely on eyesight too and this one came in closer to inspect, luckily and obviously eyesight is not the only sense they rely on, they have at least 7 sensory systems. Things like this go on without making the news because often time people don’t see them and rarely does someone have a camera in the place and time. If sharks wanted to eat us it would be extremely easy. Not saying they are puppies, they are not, and even puppies bite, and lucky for us they are far more intelligent. They are not malicious and they take in multiple factors before taking action, something many humans could learn a lot from. I would strongly advise against diving in this bad of visibility and if an accident were to happen if you choose to ignore environmental conditions please don’t blame the shark, it’s just doing its job and this guy really does look like easy prey.

A dream like underwater world is nestled in a spot that is known as Tiger Beach in the Bahamas. There are many potential reasons why the spot seems to attract large sharks: some attribute it to the shallow waters that range from 6-30 meters, and others say its the consistently warm water temperatures, which average 80 degrees year around. One thing is certain a large number of Tiger Sharks ( Galeocerdo cuvier) and other various species of sharks can be found there. According to a recent research study by the University of Maimi, there a strong female presence at Tiger Beach. The females that are frequently found vary in age and life stage. Through the use of ultrasonography and measuring the circulating sex steroid hormones scientist found that "Tiger Beach may serve as a refuge habitat, allowing females to reach maturity free from male mating harassment, as well as functioning as a gestation ground where gravid females an benefit from year-round calm warm waters, which may reduce gestation period and accelerate embryo development." (Sulikowski et al 2016). The reproductive habits of the tiger shark usually leaves the female with scars from bite marks, the scars range in color and size. It is the female dominated presence of the area that seems to deter males from entering these waters on a regular basis. Thankfully this area is protected within the exclusive economic zone of the Bahamas, but where these females go after their time at Tiger beach is unknown. Identifying and protecting birthing grounds should be a priority for future conservation and research efforts.

Shark populations are declining around the globe, with over 140 species of sharks swimming towards extinction. The demand for fins, for use in shark fin soup, is a major reason sharks are disappearing - over 73 million sharks are killed for their fins every year.

FedEx does and will ship shark fins, as long as they are packaged properly and won't spoil. This is their policy for anything being shipped for 'human consumption'. The shark fin trade has been dealt a blow recently by Air China and UPS which both announced that they will no longer be shipping shark fins, a great win for sharks.
Make a difference and help save our oceans by speaking up and signing a petition to tell FedEx to stop shipping shark fins. Link is in my bio.
Remember sharks are apex predators. They help our ecosystem thrive by removing the weak and the sick fish as well as keeping the balance with competitors. Their disappearance can set off a chain reaction throughout the ocean and even impact people on shore. #SaveSharks #sharksneedfins

WHALE SHARK sighting during our inaugural @bluespherefoundation @misool.resort trip!
“What an incredible encounter we were treated to at @misool.resort 🌊🙏🏻😊 While filming Mobula Rays and GTs hammer an anchovy baitball, the dense curtain of fish suddenly parted and a 10 foot juvenile female whale shark emerged. She was so curious and came right up to investigate our dive group during our safety stop. This little girl was a bundle of energy, zipping around as she chased the anchovies then coming straight back to us multiple times for a closer look. I have been filming for over a decade in Misool and finally it was our turn to experience a whale shark encounter in this incredible marine reserve.” ~ @shawnheinrichs 🙏🏻🦈🦋 #whaleshark #lovewhalesharks #bluespherefoundation #savesharks #indonesianoceanpride @reddigitalcinema
