Our bodies were not made to sit for 8+ hours at a time... we were designed for motion so it’s no wonder when we are completely sedentary that we have aches and pains. Our muscles are tight! Try adding this stretch in daily, along with regular movement throughout the day for a healthier body

My #TBT was inspired by yesterday’s #teamUSA medal run at the #winterolympics. In 1994 I had the honor to be asked to work with the #norwegianalpineteam and be their #teamchiropractor for the Winter Olympics. To work with the number one Alpine ski team in the world at that time in their home country was a dream come true for a #sportschiro fromSoCal. A true highlight of my career which has giving me many blessings. #ilovesports #gotcsi

I love sports! It can give us and teach us so much. As the ol saying goes, it gives us “the thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat”. It teaches us that hard work pays off and also sometimes a little luck is always welcomed. It shows us that anyone can win as well as anyone can lose. It gives people something to cheer about and grab onto when they are having a bad day and to never give up until that final buzzer since you never know what will happen. Thank you #womanshockeyteam and #teamusa for giving this #sportschiro something to cheer about late last night! #winterolympics

These are 3 of our favourite Glute activation exercises to do right before a training session or to help if you experience lower back pain. * SEGMENTAL GLUTE BRIDGE - make sure you don't arch your back and your feet are planted to the floor.
* SINGLE LEG RAISE - keep one foot planted to the ground while the opposite hip and knee are bent to 90 degrees to relax the hip flexors.
* GLUTE CLAM - keep the hip steady as you separate your knees. You should feel your glutes start to activate.

If you're training, check out your squats and lunges. It you notice that your knee shifts forward or your knees collapse inward, or if your feet lift off the floor chances are that your glutes are not working efficiently.

---Low Back / Pelvic pain ?? ---

*Self administered Ball release exercise for the Quadratus Lumborum (QL).

Here I'm demonstrating one of a few ways to help free up and release the QL muscle.

Tends to be involved in majority of low back pain cases, being one of many dysfunction muscles that can present.

Symptoms that correlate with QL dysfunction could include: 🔻Pain referring into the hips, glutes, SI joint or even anteriorly into the groin
🔻Painful when side bending, twisting, forward bending
🔻Pain when rolling side to side when lying down
🔻Pain with coughing, sneezing, straining
🔻It might also present as an obvious "hip hike" meaning one side of the pelvis is higher than the other.
🔻Can Lead to pain running down past the pelvis/glutes and down leg , mimicking sciatica⚡️. [not as common]

Using a firm ball ⚾️that has a bit of give , spend a bit of time on the QL for roughly 5-10 minutes on the side of symptoms.

It will be tender when releasing it, so work into it and don't shy away.

If you could , would be great to share this with or tag someone that may need some help with their low back. ✌️

--- Low back /Pelvic pain ?? ---

Self administered ball release drill for the Quadratus Lumborum.

The Quadratus Lumborum (aka QL) is a deep back muscle that located on either side between the last (12th) rib, the lumbar spine and the pelvic rim or crest.

The QL helps you side bend, extend and flex... but this guy will become overworked and angry when there is some dysfunction or instability around the low back/pelvis, typically due to pelvic+hip joint dysfunction associated with the opposite glutes🍑 not doing their thing.

One of my patients asked me recently what I do with my days “off” since I only have patient hours 3 days a week.
🤷🏼‍♂️
Pretty much this. I’m juggling a weekly podcast, creating / editing / uploading videos, blogging, and planning the next year’s worth of content and projects with help form @ashley_keough. Since deciding to create this hybrid IRL/internet business, I’ve learned a lot of new skills. Videography & editing (basic), Photoshop (remedial), web dev (very remedial) & project management (very, very poorly) 😂.
💡
Something I learned from @dianesanfilippo was as an #entrepreneur when you run into a problem, you figure it out. You ask, you google, you watch YouTube tutorials. You make it happen.
⭕️⭕️⭕️
And you juggle it all into something you love. Which I do. I love my work...whatever it might be that day. #sportschiro

Muscle - Pec Minor
.
Origin - Third, Fourth and Fifth rubs
.
Insertion - Medial surface of coracoid process of the Scapula .
.

Actions - Depress the Scapula, Abduct the Scapula and to downwardly rotate the Scapula
.
Innervation - Medial Pectoral (C6,7,8,T1)
.
.
Pec Minor injuries are relatively uncommon but can be caused by poor posture or repetitive trauma to the muscle during gym activities. One thing we look at is weakness and tightness of the actual muscle which causes improper biomechanics to the entire scapular/shoulder complex. We also see tight Pec Minors encroaching the Brachial Plexus (bundle of nerves that supple innervation to the entire arm)
.
.
Exercises include majority of chest exercises (dips, isolated dumbbell flys, etc.) but what is most important is the flexibility of the muscle and we accomplish this through daily stretching (doorway stretches).

Happy #humpday!
One of the most common questions at our office is “What mobility tools should I get to start stretching better so I can move better?” First, congratulation on taking it upon yourself as your responsibility to take care of your body, move well and live well. So here it is!

1. Foam roll
2. Lacrosse ball
3. PVC pipe.
But of course there are many other fancy tools too, if you want my opinion on them, simply leave a comment or shoot me a DM and I’ll look into them for you!
Stay tuned! I myself will begin making some video contents that will teach you how to do various mobility and flexibility drills at home or at the gym so you can start moving better after our specific chiropractic spinal alignments! We will also be going over functional movement corrections from time to time! -Dr. Dylan Lin, Evergreen Chiropractic.

HEADACHES?!?💆🏻
.
‼️They are not normal.‼️
.
Here is an exercise that can help:
It’s called a chin tuck or head retraction.
Basically, take your chin (while looking straight ahead, with head straight up and down) and bring it back towards your chest (it kind of feels like you are making a double chin). Hold for 5 seconds. Repeat 10-15 times, 2-3 sets. Do this EVERY DAY. .
WHY?! 🤷🏼‍♀️
.
This exercise turns on your neck flexor muscles in the front of your neck. When these get weak. the head moves forward, causing extra work for the muscles at the base of your skull called your sub-occipitals. When these get irritated, they can in turn irritate the sub-occipital nerve which can cause your headache symptoms. .
Turning these neck flexor muscles on helps to take pressure off of the base of your skull. As these muscles get stronger, they help hold your head over your shoulders where it should be.👊🏼
.

🚨Patient Spotlight🚨 three years into this patient’s college football career he suffered from repetitive concussions. With everyone doing everything right, he still had some lingering symptoms. After a thorough evaluation we found he had a cervical disc issue mimicking some concussive symptoms. When treating that his symptoms drastically decreased. With today’s concussive rates, should we be checking the neck?! What are your thoughts?? •

Super excited to be working with Vintage Crossfit for the opening Friday of the Crossfit Open 18.1 workout! ⚡️

Every year, all the professional, intermediate, and amateur athletes of the world get together and perform five weeks of prescribed exercises to see who will come out on top to make it towards the Crossfit Games. ⚡️

Week 1, or "18.1" starts this Thursday night, when the workout is announced worldwide. I'm very happy to be a part of Vintage Crossfit's Friday night celebration as the Crossfit world rings in another year of competition. ⚡️

Crossfit gets a bad reputation every now and then due to injuries. However, one observation I've noticed as a chiropractor, is that no matter what sport you're in, the wrong training and the wrong form will still hurt you. Whether it's running, cycling, olympic weightlifting, yoga, pilates, or crossfit, bad trainers/coaches equals increased injuries. ⚡️

Learn good technique. Listen to your body. And go to your local chiropractor!

The second most common injury we see in the clinic is neck pain.⠀

This can be caused by a laundry list of issues like poor posture, excessive phone/computer usage, or even just driving!⠀

One of the best ways to check the health of our neck is by doing this simple self-assessment!⠀

Muscle - Serratus Anterior .
.

Origin - External surfaces of upper eight or nine ribs
.
Insertion - Anterior surface of medial border of the Scapula .
.

Actions - Abducts the Scapula, upwardly rotates the Scapula, depresses the Scapula and holds the medial border of the Scapula against the rib cage
.
Innervation - Long Thoracic Nerve (C5,6,7,8)
.
Injuries that occur to the Serratus Anterior aren’t common, usually stem from damage to the nerve, but the main issue we see with this muscle is its weakness. When weak, it can cause Scapular Winging which can completely alter your shoulder biomechanics making it possible for further shoulder injuries .
.

Exercises to strengthen this muscle, MOST IMPORTANTLY is the Scapular Push-up (assume a push-up position, keep your arms straight and carefully slide your shoulder blades inward towards each other, then outwards away from each other) as well as Shoulder Blade Protractions (lean against a wall and press the backs of your palms and elbows against it, then slide your shoulder blades forward and hold)
