This is the audiobook I am currently listening too. Has anyone else read/listened to this one? It is SO GOOD! He talks about how to overcome obstacles, looking at them differently and the power of your thoughts. Definitely a must read!

I think the biggest thing I've learned about depression these several months is that it's to be weathered the same way you do a sandstorm. You can't run from it, you can't fight it head on--you wait it out. You let the Dark come and go, you hunker down and cover up to keep it out until it subsides.
I've been caught outside in a couple sandstorms before and all you can do is crouch in the gutter as it hits and swirls around and then past you. Even after it's gone, the sand is still everywhere and impossible to get out.
I know the Dark is different from person to person, and a sandstorm is the best way I can describe mine. It's a barrage of horrid, worming thoughts that cut you off from reality. It's a putrid, deafening noise of all of them overlapping each other. Repeating each other. You go mad wanting it to stop. Does it stop? Can it? Why can't I stop feeling like this?
It's so misunderstood. All I knew of it was hotlines and people posting chain statuses asking you to reach out, only to respond with misguided advice such as , "be more positive." Black and white. Either, or. Go left, or go right.
But their advice comes back around to being run from it or fight it head on, no matter how they paint it. I personally think that's detrimental.
Personally, it has made the Dark worse for me. Yet, like them, I didn't know any better. I didn't know what it was, much less that I had it. It's not anyone's fault.
Though, I do think the thing is, some battles are best won with stillness. I needed a third option that doesn't exist for those with a binary perception; I didn't see it then, and it's probably not for everyone. Maybe it won't help forever. It didn't seem to help too much in the beginning; but when I can't get to the mat to clear my head, I plug in my headphones and listen to that guided meditation app that my Beloved Uncle recommended years ago and focus on the mantra gifted to me.
Some days are hard, and others are harder but baby steps, right?

I think this quote from @ryanholiday on Impact Theory with @tombilyeu is so powerful.

And it pretty much sums up the difference between successful and unsuccessful attempts to improve ourselves, whether that is in nutrition, training, health, life, business.

You've probably done it yourself- tried to make a change to your habits, and been absolutely perfect in the first couple of days.

That's all well and good, but initial intensity isn't the marker of successful behaviour change.
Your success is determined by how well you stick to your processes when life gets in the way- when you're busy at work, or have other things to focus on.

Anyone can stick to something for a day.
How many people can stick to it for a year?
