And even harder to maintain the body I envisioned for myself. While I am blessed with long legs, my rib cage is very broad and for years I could never figure out how to change the midsection of my body.
I post this to remind everyone that change is possible. Don’t let defeat overcome you.

How do you get through the holidays without putting in the average 5-10 pounds?! 🥧🍪🍨🥂🍢🥂 1. Don’t waste your calories on things you can have at any time. For instance, 🍪 are around all the time but your grandma’s pecan pralines might be a special, nostalgic treat. Enjoy the treats that are special to you and that are seasonal favorites. For me it is snickerdoodle cookies, these bad boys tickle my taste buds something fierce so I make sure to make room for a couple of the course of the holiday.
2. Move your body. If you carve out time to exercise, you will make better food choices. Try to break a sweat first thing in the morning so you don’t have to squash excuses later in the day. 💪👊👍 3. Think about how your choices will make you feel the next day, week, month. A splurge every once in a while won’t derail your progress, but continually overindulging will only cause you to begin the pattern of guilt, emotional eating, and poor body image. Think about how well you feel when you are fueling your body well 🥚🥑🍎🍠🥕, drinking lots of 💦, and getting plenty of 😴. Balanced can be achieved!! Take this time, focus on the true meaning of the holidays, and enjoy a treat here and there. Your body will thank you. ❤️ .

When I'm traveling, I need quick workouts that require little equipment. Today I did a 12 days of Christmas workout! Give it a try!
Just like the song, you will complete the first day, then the second and first, then third, second, first, and so on until you are completing the entire 12 days for the final round.
On the first day of Christmas my trainer gave to me: 1 30-second plank** On the second day of Christmas my trainer gave to me: 2 push-ups
On the third day of Christmas my trainer gave to me: 3 Jumping Lunges (per side)
On the fourth day of Christmas my trainer gave to me: 4 Tricep Dips
On the fifth day of Christmas my trainer gave to me: 5 Buuuurrrpeeees
On the sixth day of Christmas my trainer gave to me: 6 Overhead presses
On the seventh day of Christmas my trainer gave to me: 7 Plie squats
On the eighth day of Christmas my trainer gave to me: 8 Bicep curls
On the ninth day of Christmas my trainer gave to me: 9 Deadlifts
On the tenth day of Christmas my trainer gave to me: 10 Curtsy lunges
On the eleventh day of Christmas my trainer gave to me: 11 Bent over rows

Today's workout brought to you by my boyfriend's parent's basement, and Kendrick Lamar. First, thank you to @jencomas for programming some great dumbbell-only workouts to do!!! Sometimes, we just don't have access to barbells and need options. If you're lacking even dumbbells... Spoiler... You can use bands instead on these movements and still get some resistance training in! 😎

On a more serious note, I wanted to share something. I almost didn't want to post this video because I feel like I look SO. BIG. I've gone through a masters defense, and a ton of stress, all of course around the holidays when food is just EVERYWHERE. I'm a definite sugar addict. It's something I struggle with a lot, and have spent a LOT of time working on. With how stressed I've been, I kind of threw all healthy eating out the window and was eating sweets whenever. I was in survival mode. I hardly worked out the month of November. It left me feeling fluffy, down, and a bit like a failure. But guess what? That's life. Sometimes shit hits the fan and your focus isn't on fitness and health. You do your best, but sometimes life gets the best of you. All you can do is acknowledge it's been a bit rough and work from where you are. You aren't a failure, you're human. We all are flawed. So, in the spirit of showing up even when I feel not so great, and showing that it's okay to not be perfect, I am posting this video anyway. This is me, not being ashamed of my body, how it is now, a year ago, or a year from now. My fitness isn't to make people give me likes or shares. It's for my health. My happiness. My anxiety disorder. It changes and molds with the seasons of life. And that's okay. 👌
