Black History Month Ruby Hurley was on the front lines of the modern Civil Rights Movement as an executive in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Hurley became the NAACP’s National Youth Secretary in 1943. Over the next decade she organized youth councils and college chapters, building a base of 25,000 youth members. NAACP Youth Council members launched the 1960s sit-in movement, proving the value of the foundation Hurley laid down. Hurley was promoted to regional director in 1952 and engaged in each major event of the Civil Rights Movement. She was the rare woman to hold a senior leadership position in a national civil rights organization. (Photo Credit: Library of Congress)

@chistory_ - ∆ One-Way Ticket To Wakanda ∆
.........
Y'all I booked a one-way ticket to Wakanda this past weekend. Black Panther was everything and then some! The movie depicted #genderequality in an advanced African nation and it was NORMAL! The most intelligent and some of the most powerful people in the nation were women and the men weren't threatened by this - everyone worked together, and the nation flourished. The movie was black, Black, blackity BLACK, and I loved it!!!
.........
To all of the people wishing that they could bring a little bit of Wakanda to life, don't worry! @blackloveexperience got you!!! This year's fifth edition of #BlackLoveDC 🇺🇸 on March 17 will be bigger and better than ever. With a Black Panther theme, we'll be making history and recreating our own Wakanda with Black-owned businesses, melanated musicians, Afro-centric artists, diverse discussions, and futuristic food (well amazing at least lol). @crowezilla came through last year, and you never know who may be dropping by this year!! Ticket information is in @blackloveexperience's bio.

#WCW Happy Black History Month to my beautiful Public Servant sisters! There are no other women that I would had rather shared this journey with. We have always supported each other on and off the fire ground. We have opened so many doors for so many women in the fire service. We are intelligent, strong and fierce. I continue to pray for your safety and success. Continue to carry the torch for women and POC. Lets passionately continue to spread #Blackgirlmagic all over the world. 🚨🚒🚑🚔#CAPTAINSFORLIFE #HOTGIRLCREW #blackhistorymonth #womenhistorymonth #black365notjust28

“Don’t Sleep On Her” is a campaign that we curated to embrace women and their talents throughout Women’s History Month, but something we should continuously keep doing for every other month of the year. Whether they are a photographer, recording artist, fashion designer or entrepreneur, women need the recognition and support just as much as the men do.
