So his group was hunting for pregnant elephants... who does that!?? These are GARBAGE and not humans!! Good Riddance, you won't be missed 🖕🏼
Here a few interesting facts about the gentle Giants 🐘:
- oldest female in the family is the Matriarch ❤️🐘 and the leader of the herd - Elephants mourn the death of a family member - Unfortunately 1 elephant is killed every 15 minutes in Africa for their ivory - Their tusks are modified teeth, and it is used for digging, defense and fighting other elephants and they have and cannot be removed - Their gestation period is the longest of all mammals at 22 months - Males leave the heard around 10-12 years old and become solitary - The illegal wildlife trade has become the 4th most lucrative transnational crime after drugs, arms and human trafficking
Save the elephants & the wildlife. There are so many organizations out there and they do wonderful work saving, caring and rescuing elephants in Africa. If we don't act today, they'll be extinct in 3 years, and this is a FACT. 🐘💙🐘

Bull Elephant, Amboseli
An elephant’s tusks are both a blessing and curse. Blessing because they give a sense of true majesty that rise them above other animals as well and being of use for various tasks. A curse because man’s avarice for ivory has led to the senseless slaughter of hundreds of thousands of the magnificent animals.
One of the key differences between African and Asian elephants is the tusks. All African elephants, male and female, have tusks whereas only some Asian males have tusks. About 50% of Asian females have short tusks known as tushes – which have no pulp inside. Good news for big tuskers in South Africa .... After significant opposition to the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve’s request to hunt a “trophy elephant bull” with an unlimited tusk weight, Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency has confirmed that it will not issue permits to hunt trophy elephants bearing tusks in excess of 40lbs. This comes after news about the large number of elephants earmarked to be hunted, in particular the “trophy elephant bull”, sparked outrage amongst conservationists and South African citizens leading to a petition as well as an open letter urging SA’s government to protect large tuskers.

A well-known South African hunter has died after he was crushed to death by an elephant on a trophy hunting trip. Theunis Botha, 51, from Johannesberg, was leading a hunt in Gwai, Zimbabwe, when they approached a herd of elephants, which included pregnant females.
_
Three elephants stampeded towards the hunters and Mr Botha opened fire with his rifle, prompting a fourth elephant to storm in from the side and lift him up with her trunk. Another member of the group fired the fatal shot at the elephant and, as the animal collapsed dead, she fell on Mr Botha.
_
Mr Botha, who leaves behind five children and his wife Carike, is said to have frequently led lion and leopard-hunting safaris with his pack of dogs in southern African countries. He reportedly also travelled regularly to the US in order to find wealthy customers to take part in trophy hunting.
_
Other hunters offered their condolences over the death of the “world-class houndsman” after Mrs Botha revealed what had happened in a Facebook post. Those opposed to hunting also made their feelings known on social media.
_
Mr Botha had been close friends with another huntsman who recently lost his life when he was killed by crocodiles. Scott van Zyl, 44, was on a hunt in Zimbabwe when he disappeared on the banks of the Limpopo River. DNA samples taken from the contents of two crocodiles that were shot during the search matched that of Mr van Zyl.

Space for Giants and the Tlhokomela Botswana Endangered Wildlife Trust today announced that Botswana would hold the next Giants Club Summit, in Kasane in March 2018. The Summit gathers presidents and politicians, conservationists and scientists, financiers and philanthropists, and puts them in one place where they can - together - come up with the best ways to protect Africa's elephants. Here's our CEO Max Graham telling a Press Conference at the Summit launch today in Gaborone, Botswana, that while great strides have been made against poaching - not least China banning its ivory trade - the job of protecting forever Africa's elephants and the landscapes they rely on was very far from done #elephants #conservation #botswana #worthmorealive #stoppoaching #africa

Living and working in the African #wilderness is a privilege, and every day is full of excitement and wonderful things to admire but, at least for me, #elephants are perhaps the creatures I love the most. I could spend hours just watching them in silence and observing their behaviour. There is something mesmerizing about these gentle giants. #conservation #africa #adventure #savetheelephants #worthmorealive #wildaid @wildaid

A huge thank you to those of you who donated to @careforwild. Donations were given to @morgan_pelt to pass along to Petronel so that she can buy milk for the orphans. Pictured here is @careforwild's youngest resident, #khanya enjoying one of her multiple daily bottles. My hope is that in future years there will be no need for rhino sanctuaries; when the world wakes up to the truth (no medicinal value whatsoever!!!!) and suffering surrounding the #rhinohorntrade #rhino #rhinolove #rhinoorphanage #conservation #stoppoaching #stoptherhinohorntrade #worthmorealive #gentlegiants #myheart #careforwild

Yesterday, our DSWT/KWS Mara Mobile Veterinary Unit had a dramatic afternoon helping a young mother and her calf in the Masai Mara conservancy. Swipe through to see the operation through to its happy ending!

The calf, who had been mauled by lions, was limping heavily and suffering from painful wounds – the lions had even bitten his tail clean off. Mother and baby were hiding in the forest, and it took some clever maneuvering (with the help of the Mara Elephant Project helicopter) to safely separate the pair. We quickly loaded him into a truck so Dr. Limo could administer treatment. After his wounds were cleaned and he had received antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication, we drove the calf back to his mother, who was waiting patiently just 100 meters away. The mother stood just inches away from the front of the vehicle without any display of aggression, clearly understanding that we were helping her baby. They walked off happily together, and we'll continue to monitor the calf in case he needs any follow-up treatment.
