The Nycticebus coucang, or the Sunda Slow #Loris is a #mammal and #primate. They live in the #tropical #rain #forest of #southeast #Asia. They are classified as a declining species due to hunting for Asian #medicines and #illegal #animal #trade. What many might not know is that the slow lorises are #venomous. When saliva mixes with compounds from glands in their armpits via licking, toxins are activated and a dangerous bite can ensue. Humans are only affected by the toxins if they are allergic to the venom. #zoology #biology #education #awareness #iphoneography #godmakesbeautifulthings #kuwait #q8 #كويت #الكويت #wildlife #trees #nature

If you guys didn’t know, #Coccinellidae (ladybugs) pupate 😮They can also be shades of yellow, orange, and red in color. The spines they develop are for their own defense against predators while their hard chitinous exoskeleton forms. Pictures taken right off my front porch, hundreds of them are here. #development #transforming #uglytobeautiful #photographingnature #bugs #beetles #entomology #nature #amazing #ladybugs #ladybirds #zoology #biology #science #observing #🔬

Rosalia alpina (male), strictly protected species in Croatia. Despite the fact its an icon amongst Cerambycidae, there isn't enough information on its habitat and host plants throughout Europe. Populations are declining mainly due to habitat loss and decreasing number of dead logs and fallen trunks in forests, which are necessary for their larvae developement which can take up to three years. .

Dicamptodon tenebrosus (Coastal Giant Salamander). Another salamander found earlier in the week! I love how bold and larger patterns this younger giant has, as compared to the larger adult on yesterday's post! Always a fun salamander to spot! Humboldt County, CA. Nov. 2017

Very poor quality and very wobbly! But this is how fast a kestrel's wings flap when it hovers! It may look as though I have sped it up but honestly haven't! 🦅

Found in Central and South America, the poison dart frog uses its skin toxin for defense and its bright colors as a warning. Each tiny amphibian holds enough toxin in its skin to kill 10 people. Its popular name came from native hunters who very carefully dipped the tips of their hunting darts in the frog’s poison. A new study revealed how the frogs survive their own poison, and the answer points to God. Read "Why Don't Poison Dart Frogs Poison Themselves?" at icr.org! (Link in profile.)

At dusk, a mother cheetah calls out to her cubs across the open plains of the southern Kruger National Park. There are now fewer than 7000 cheetahs in the the wild, with the species occupying no more than 10% of its historic range. Of 29 subpopulations, just the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem contains more than 1000 individuals; the Kruger is thought to hold between 300-500.
