#JulyVinylChallenge ⏪⏪⏪ swipe left... #guardiansofthegalaxy #Records #Vinyl #fivestairsteps #LPNerd #oldschoolreasons DAY 19: Album with a song you want played at your funeral.... O-O-H Child by The Five Stairsteps. This entire album is a "feel good" record and I think we can all agree. But this song takes me back to a really happy place. It actually also reminds me of the movie "Boyz N the Hood", the scene where Furious and Tre are driving and this song comes on the radio and for that moment, Furious can let go; his guard is down and he forgets he lives in a high crime area. The way it takes him back, it takes me back in that same way. When I leave this earth one day, I want it to be a happy day; not a sad one. ✊🏻
#JulyVinylChallenge #Vinyl #LosTecolines #Mexico #Records #GrandesExitos #MusicFromMexico #MiGente #Boleros DAY 17:First Musical Love... growing up in a house with a Mexican mom, I was fortunate to be exposed to her culture. When she would clean house, she played records that she loved so much. One of my favorites was Los Tecolines. Four men that sounded so wonderful together were the basis of my childhood. Every so often I would catch my ma dancing and singing. For that moment, she was back home. When I listen to this music now, I'm 4 years old again. Many of the tracks make my eyes heavy. If I hear "Gardenias", my eyes tear up immediately. Thank you Antonio, Jorge, Luis and Sergio for those fantastic memories. 💚❤️
#JulyVinylChallenge #Vinyl #LPNerd #DinosaurJr #CurrentlySpinning DAY15...... this one is a heavy one for me. How can one album contain all the songs you wish you wrote? All the songs that make you think of him? Admittedly I don't have many records but the ones I have are great. An album that makes you think of your boyfriend is, in my opinion, the hardest of the days of the challenge. No specific album in general makes me think of him but specific songs do; the feeling I get from them. This album "Without A Sound" contains deep feelings for me. My heart gets incredibly heavy; like being with him. Many of the songs on this album make me cry, particularly "Seemed like the thing to do". I can't give a real explanation but when I listen, I get lost, I get sweet, I feel I'm looking up at the sky in wonder. It's the same feeling when I'm with @gurnie_b and it's a sentiment that is hard to put into words. I think of the introduction, the waiting period, the lonely nights and how hard it is to fall asleep unless Bryan is there.
#JulyVinylChallenge #Vinyl #LPNERD #LoveGarden #LawrenceKansas #LFK #RecordStore DAY 13: A photo of your favorite record store... LOVE GARDEN in Lawrence has become my favorite spot. I think aside from the nice variety and friendly staff, I come here to see the furry friends. Sam is usually the first I see and the last one I pet goodbye. ❤️
#JulyVinylChallenge #Vinyl #LPNERD #AdrianYounge DAY12..... An album that you hated but grew to love. I think HATE is a very strong word; you can certainly feel " MEH" about something and it can change your mind over time. There are few voices/bands that upon immediately hearing them, you want to claw your face (insert Meghan Trainor). When I first heard Adrian Younge's album I simply wasn't sure if I would like it or not. He's a mix of jazz, funk, hip hop and a little bit of everything in between. I like all of it, just wasn't sure if I would like Adrian's style. Admittedly, I never heard of him before or at least I've heard his work, just didn't know who he was. After listening to this album several times, I explored his other works. He has an impressive resume and he's not even forty yet. Younge has a lot under his belt; music for the film Black Dynamite and producing Kendrick Lamar's song "untitled 06" is enough to make you look twice. There is indeed "something about April" and it's lovely.
#JulyVinylChallenge #Vinyl #LPNerd #UnderTheSkin DAY 10: An album that needs to be heard on vinyl... All must be heard on vinyl but there are some albums that it's really the only way to hear it. This score for the film Under The Skin not only needs to be enjoyed on vinyl, you must wear headphones to get lost in it. Highly recommend. ✊🏻thanks @gurnie_b for not only letting me borrow this record but introducing me to the movie.
