In honor of International Women’s Day, we’d like to give a shout out to some of the amazing ladies who make our work possible! Sandra, our Development Director; Cynthia, our Foster Coordinator; Lindsay, our Nursery Manager; and Esther, our Sanctuary manager. All of the inspiring rescue stories and special moments we share on our page are thanks to the tireless hard work and unwavering dedication of these awesome women, with help from our incredible volunteers And of course, we had to feature our beautiful mama cat Noel.
Our newest babies! The first litter is around 4 days old, and the second is 2 weeks. We’re so lucky to have such amazing volunteers who go above and beyond to save these kittens when their lives are on the line. Now we get to watch them all wiggle around as they adjust to their new home, safe in our Nursery!
Still trying to figure out the purrrrfect way to spend your weekend? Why not stop by one of our adoption events and adopt one (or two!) of the adorable kittens or puppies we have available! You can change their lives today by giving them a safe place to call home Visit our Facebook for times and locations!
If there was ever something that could brighten up a cold, rainy day, it’s saving four adorable babies from shelter euthanasia! This whole litter was red-listed to be put to sleep because sadly, city shelters don’t have the resources needed to care for newborns. Luckily, one of our volunteers rushed over and quickly brought them to safety in our nursery
What could possibly be better than doing Yoga while surrounded by adorable kittens? Probably nothing, which is why we’ve teamed up with @modernvikingathletics to host our very first Kitten Yoga adoption event! If you’re looking to adopt the perfect feline friend, and want a fun and exciting way to meet some possible companions, join us at this awesome event Seats are limited, so click the link in bio to sign up! 🧘🏾♀️🧘🏻♂️
Have you met Percy? He’s the adorable, nine-month-old kitten living in our Nursery, and he is an absolute dream! Percy adores other cats, people, and dogs, and he has the sweetest little social personality. He loves to play, chase, and have fun, but he also loves to snuggle, be held, and sit in your lap - we think it’s the perfect combination He is such a natural sweetheart, and we would love to find a forever home for this special boy. And even though every single one of us here at KR has fallen in love with him, we know he deserves to be adopted by a family who appreciates him just as much as we do If you’d be interested in adopting him, please let us know!
Cheddar is a diamond in the rough. After a tough first few years fending for himself on the street, this lovable 4-year-old boy was being cared for by a community of tenants in a building in Atwater Village. However, after getting into a scuffle with a neighbor’s dog, one of the tenants threatened to have Cheddar removed. Luckily, he was taken in by one of our volunteers who lived in the building – and what a difference that made! He was always very friendly while outside, but the second he was inside a home, Cheddar became a TOTAL lap cat and lovebug, purring up a storm and wanting to be pet! He loves to snuggle up in your lap and keep you company – and because he wants all the love to himself, he’d be great as an only cat. Cheddar is FIV positive, but as a little research will tell you, this is totally no big deal! The majority of cats with FIV live full, long lifespans – all it means is that if he ever gets sick, it’s best to make sure he gets treatment sooner rather than later. This chubby guy is such a sweetheart, and all he wants is a safe, secure place to call home with someone who cares for him. If you’d be interested in adopting Cheddar, please let us know
Intake Alert Look at the adorable, wintery-looking brother & sister Siamese pair who just arrived in our Nursery this past weekend. They look like little tiny polar bears! They’re around 3-4 weeks old, and super cuddly. We’ve been so busy that we haven’t even had a chance to name them yet, so we’re asking you guys - what should we name this duo? Let us know in the comments!
Please help little Riley What makes Kitten Rescue so special is our team of dedicated, volunteer foster parents, many of which are boots-on-the-ground rescuers, like Jade Katona. Jade cares for many community cat colonies in Los Angeles, and she never turns a blind eye to an animal in need. So when she got the phone call about an injured kitten in a parking lot, she immediately came to the rescue. Jade scooped up little Riley - pictured here - and took her straight to the vet, where she was diagnosed with a broken hip and femur These two surgeries must be performed by an orthopedist, and the estimate for treatment is between $3,700 - $6,000! Riley is an amazing kitten and she needs your help. You can change her life, and it only takes a minute - all you have to do is visit the link in bio to contribute to Riley’s surgery. Every donation, no matter how small, will truly make a difference in helping this sweet soul get the medical attention she desperately needs. We love you, Riley!
More moms and babies?? Yep, you heard right! After taking in these three sets of beautiful mama cats and adorable newborn kittens, our nursery now has sets of moms and babies. We’re thinking of starting a New Mom Support Group for all these mama cats, who are working hard around the clock to keep their kittens groomed, fed and taken care of!
You could spend this weekend taking long naps in the sun, chasing wand toys, and eating kibble... OR, you could stop by one of our adoption events and give a forever home to a kitten in need! All of these beautiful kitties will be at our events this weekend, and they'd love to meet you. Check out our Facebook for times and locations!
Malcolm, our beloved eleven year old Nursery dog, is going to a foster home today! We’re so excited that he will finally have a home all to himself. Malcolm is deaf and blind and has been living in our Nursery for a little over a year now. While he gets along perfectly well with all the kitties, we know he’d prefer a safe, loving house. We had an orientation for new foster volunteers on Sunday evening, and one of them fell in love with Malcolm and offered to foster him. We’ll miss seeing his adorable face every day, but we couldn’t be happier for him!
If there was ever proof of the difference it can make to adopt a timid/older cat, this is it. Jitterbug had been living in our Sanctuary and was absolutely terrified. She would hide in her enclosure, scared to come out and spend time around the other cats. She enjoyed when volunteers would hang out with her and show her affection, but she still had trouble warming up to new people. We recognized how sweet and special she was, and after months of trying to find a home for her, a lovely couple was interested in giving this shy eight-year-old girl a chance... and just look at the results! Here, you can see Jitterbug happily out and about in her new home, making biscuits. In all the time she spent living at our facility, we never saw this side of her. She needed a place of her own, where she could feel safe and secure, and we're so thrilled she was able to find that. Please consider taking a chance on a shyer cat - it could truly change their life
Anita came to us very scared and shy, and since living at the Kitten Rescue Sanctuary, she has opened up so much. She is a beautiful, four-year old kitty, with a super sweet, very friendly, gentle personality We think the next stage in her growth will be to develop trust with her own, loving human being(s). She was abandoned in the past, and deserves a home that will nurture her and make her feel safe. She would like a quiet home, with parents who are willing to be patient until she comes out of her shell. Once you've earned her trust, she'll reward your hard work and patience by letting you pet her, or sitting in your lap. She's also perfectly happy to make friends with other cats, as she warms up to other kitties pretty quickly 🧡 If you'd be interested in adopting this wonderful girl, and helping provide her with the safe, loving home she deserves, please let us know.
Meet twelve year old Hugo (pictured here with his cat, Pipe, who was rescued from a drain pipe at his school). Hugo is running the Big 5k as part of the LA Marathon with Team Kitten Rescue on March 17th. Hugo says he loves cats and wants to thank them for all the joy they have given him by running the Big 5K. He has already raised over $1000.00 to help Kitten Rescue save more kitties!
Hugo has been an ardent cat rescuer since he was 6 years old, when he adopted his first cat, Whitey, after spotting him at an adoption event. Next came Jimmy, an orange tabby rescued from a city shelter, shortly before he was to be euthanized. Then came Pipe. Lastly, Hugo’s baby is a year old kitten named Pigeon. Click the link in bio to donate to Hugo’s Marathon Fundraiser! ♂️♀️
It looks like kitten season might be starting early this year! We just rescued this adorable sister trio from the South LA shelter on Thursday afternoon, and thankfully we were able to find them a foster right away We just can’t get over how cute they are Want to help us save little lives like these? If you’d be interested in becoming a foster parent for homeless kitties, email firstname.lastname@example.org!
We certainly have some cuties up for adoption this weekend! All of them are super sweet, and in need of a forever home. You can be the one who gives them all the love and happiness they deserve! We have events all over LA this weekend, so see if anyone catches your eye, and visit our Facebook for times and locations
Scooter is a ridiculously friendly cat who we rescued from the city shelter a few weeks ago. He’s a big, mushy, lovable purring machine, but he has nerve damage to one of his front legs resulting from an injury, and there is no feeling in it. There are dangerous risks associated with this condition, so this afternoon his front right leg will be removed. We absolutely adore tripods here at Kitten Rescue, so we know this will just make an already special cat even more special. Please wish Scooter good luck with his surgery, and we’ll post an updated photo once he’s all healed up.
Remember Mercedes, the tiny kitten we rescued with the broken leg? Well just look at her now! Her leg is still healing but she’s making great progress, and has no problem getting around in her enclosure. She is a happy, healthy, insanely sweet kitten who absolutely adores people, and purrs every time someone makes eye contact with her. We’re so happy to have helped her on her recovery journey, and it’s been amazing watching her grow into a strong, loving, confident kitty
We are currently trying to find a very special home for a very special boy. This is Oscar. He is twelve years old, and he and his brother were abandoned by their owners and returned to us six months ago. Oscar loves people and is unbelievably sweet - he loves pets, head rubs, and snuggles, and nothing makes him happier than affectionate from our volunteers. He instantly starts purring and always wants more! He’s also quite chubby, and loves treats Unfortunately, he’s terrified of our Sanctuary. While most cats acclimate after a few weeks, some - like Oscar - have more trouble. He doesn’t have a problem with other cats at all, but being around so many of them in an unfamiliar place has been too much for him, especially after living in the same place for twelve years! All Oscar needs to thrive is a more secure, quieter place where he can relax and feel safe, because he’s so friendly and outgoing when he’s not feeling scared! We’re hoping that someone will open up their home and their heart, and adopt this special senior boy. If you’d be interested, please let us know
