The most important job as a parent is to keep your kids safe. You can’t prevent every bump and bruise, but learning and practicing car seat safety can help protect your family. #HereToHelp
First and foremost, get the right type of seat for your child’s age, height, weight and developmental level. Read your vehicle owner’s manual and the labels on the car seats you are considering buying.
All car seats should be correctly buckled in the back seat. Once you install the seat, you should not be able to move it more than one inch in either direction at the belt path. You can do this by using the seat belt or the LATCH system. Always use the top tether for forward-facing seats.
The harness straps must be snug and the chest clip should be at armpit level. Remove any heavy coats or blankets from under the straps and make sure the straps are not twisted.
Properly installed and correctly used car seats can decrease the risk of a fatal injury by 71% for infants, 54% for toddlers and 45% for children ages four to eight. For more information and tips on how to protect your family, check out @safekidsworldwide. #CPSWeek #parenting
Kids (and their furry friends) benefit when they learn the value of kindness, keeping a positive attitude, and responsibility. #HereToHelp
Kindness is Powerful is a joint effort to educate children on dog safety. State Farm teamed up with celebrity dog trainer @victoriastilwell, kindness ambassador Megan Blake with Super Smiley, and Leah Brewer with 2013 Hero Dog of the Year, @ellethepitbull.
Kindness is Powerful focuses on teaching the value of kindness, positivity, and how to be responsible around dogs. The campaign also focuses on children and providing messaging around the need for education on dog bite prevention. Dogs trained through the State Farm Arson Dog Program participate by conducting demonstrations and sharing information about working dogs. #responsiblepetownership #kindness #dogsofinstagram #dogsandkids
“These kids are waiting for someone to come and be their role model. It is a time commitment, but very worthwhile.” #HereToHelp
Missy Thomas, a business analyst at State Farm, has been volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters for four years. She saw a need in her community and was inspired to act. “These kids come from broken homes and you see how they are living and want to show them there is more to life,” Missy says. “It’s the least I can do.”
Missy’s Little Sister, Cali, was five years old when they were matched. She’s eight now and Missy continues to be a stable presence in her life, helping her open up, communicate and gain confidence. “I hope she knows someone believes in her and cares a lot about her well-being.”
The time Missy and Cali spend together is fun and rewarding for both of them. “We are growing together,” Missy says. “I can’t wait to see the person she becomes and the life she builds for herself.” #giveback #community
