To all my teammates and coaches, it’s a special relationship spending a summer battling everyday together. To the fans and the city of Detroit, this might sound cliche, because every athlete seems to say the same thing, truly you have been a blessing to me and my family for the last 4 years. You will be missed. #michigansummers
For this week’s #TigersFanFridays, meet Isaac and Annika, a pair of friendly faces around Comerica Park. Isaac and Anna wear the same outfits to every game, attending more than 20 every season.
Originally asked to put on his #Tigers jersey before heading to the ballpark, Isaac opted to wear a full uniform. On a hot summer day, Isaac insisted on wearing the full uniform even after it was suggested he change. Since then, he’s continued to wear it. Annika decided to follow her big brother after that game, so she found a uniform to wear.
Since the 2016 season, Isaac and Annika have been hooked on Tigers baseball. “Once we took (Isaac) to a couple games, we realized that it was just a really nice way to spend an evening as a family,” their father, Brian said. “Annika is not so much into the game as she is finding Pokemon, singing during the 7th inning stretch, the players walk-up songs, and most of all the car race (Motor City Wheels).” But Annika had a blast stepping onto the field before a game after winning a hitting contest during Willie Horton’s Batting for Kids. Isaac still hasn’t forgotten the day in September when he got a baseball from the Cleveland Indians, wearing his Tigers uniform. And as a family, they enjoyed the chance to see Tigers players up close during Spring Training last year. “Really though, as most of the games we go to are in a condensed period of time (mid-Jun — end of August) when the kids are out of school, (the best part) is seeing all of the familiar faces of staff and season ticket holders,” Brian said.
Congratulations James and Jessica!
Yesterday, December 6, 2017, in Nashville, TN, @jessmccann3 and I welcomed two beautiful baby boys into this world. Christian Thomas McCann and Kane Timothy McCann made their way into our arms around 9:45am. We are so incredibly blessed and God is so good.
Jessica is recovering well and both boys are off to a good start in the NICU, where they will continue to grow and develop for the next several weeks.
We are so excited and so grateful for our growing family. We ask for continued thoughts and prayers as these two boys continue to mature and move closer to the day we get to take them home!
For this week’s #TigersFanFridays, meet Jean-Luc, an avid #Tigers fan from Shelby, North Carolina. Jean-Luc, 14 years old, has yet to attend a professional baseball game, but he could tell you stats and figures about each player.
Diagnosed with autism, Jean-Luc first picked up his fandom at a young age, listening to announcers rattle off stats and other information about the team during a broadcast while visiting family in Michigan. It also helped that his family grew up rooting for the Tigers. His mother, Ann has been to Comerica Park before and his father grew up rooting for the Tigers in Sterling Heights.
He dressed up as Miguel Cabrera for Trunk or Treat in his neighborhood, even sewing the Olde English D on to the hat when his family couldn’t find one in North Carolina.
This spring, he plans to help out his school’s baseball team in some capacity. Come summer, Jean-Luc and his father hope to attend their first professional baseball game, along with their mother, at Comerica Park.
Al Kaline - being able to shake the hands of people you grew up hearing myth like stories about is one of the most humbling experiences I can think of... I just so happen to get to do that every Sunday in Detroit during the season where Mr. Kaline can be found in Baseball Chapel leading prayers, offering inspiration & plenty of solid advice. I've enjoyed many of his stories, both the ones that he tells as well as the ones told of him. Hall of Fame voting is going on right now so I saw fit that I finally post this portrait I've been sitting on for months of the 18 - time All-Star, World Champion & Hall of Famer himself, "Mr. Tiger".
