Last weeks 1 rep Max's. .

My highest ever bench at 285lbs! Probably my best lift out of the three for my weight class. .

My highest ever 415lbs for deadlift (which sadly my memory maxed out before I could record my lift.)

I also got 295lbs for high bar squat and 175lbs for military press.
I failed my 180lb attempt for military press but overall am happy with my progress ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ. I hope you guys stay motivated and trust in the process.

I've been hanging around 168 body weight this past week. It's been a challenge to put on more weight since this is the heaviest I've ever been.

๐Ÿ” My caloric intake has been around 3100kcals for the past few weeks and my body has adapted. I haven't been as consistent as I'd like to be to be with counting calories but that's going to change and I'm bumping it up to 3.2k to keep the muscle growth going .
.
โš–๏ธ I've gained 10 pounds since the start of my bulk (June 27th) but only a pound the past 3 weeks. It's difficult to say with certainty what fat percentage you are, but if I had to guess I'd be around 13% right now. My goal weight is 175lb by the end of this year or 16% bf. Let's Get It!

Everyone knows that the fastest way from point A to point B is a straight line.

โ˜๐ŸฝNO MATTER you proportions (femur to torso), technique or other factor, moving the bar in a straight up and down line is the most efficient way to move the most weight. .
๐Ÿ“ˆI know my form isn't anywhere close to perfect. I didn't like how much my lower back contributed to the low bar squat so I've been focusing on high bar and quad activation. .
โœ…If the weight is balanced evenly from heel to toe and side to side then there's a good chance you're doing it right. Likewise, if you notice that that's not the case, take a video, and check out my next post on common mistakes ๐Ÿ˜!

๐ŸฅIf you're new to strength training, or if these exercises are new to you, give this program a shot. Strength training and simple programming go together like bread and butter. Try this routine as your A day and switch Military Press with Flat Bench for your B day. Alternate the two every other day. .

๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ If you've never tried strength training, I can say that it is the best thing that's happened to me since I found weightlifting ~5 years ago. Compound lifts elicit more muscle growth than isolation exercises, and when paired with lower rep schemes your Central Nervous System kicks into โšก๏ธoverdriveโšก๏ธ, and boosts your muscle performance. Heavy compound lifts mean more CNS activation, meaning more muscle growth! Rinse and repeat. . . .

๐Ÿ‹๐ŸฝAs you can see by this video, I've gone from squatting 300lbs+ back to ~200lbs. Why you may ask? I used to think the only thing that mattered in weightlifting is how much you lift- adding weight to the bar as fast as possible. Don't get me wrong, adding weight over time is the best and most effective way to become stronger and more fit. But...

๐Ÿค”Taking this paradigm to the extreme has drawbacks. Namely, it is easy to add weight by modifying your form and catering to your strengths.
For example, my lower back is significantly stronger than my quads during the squat, so by sitting my hips back and lowering my torso I can take advantage of my stronger muscles. .

โ›“๏ธThe problem, though, is you may not notice that by doing this you end up neglecting your weaker links. The first video is exactly that. I sit my hips back until my torso is almost parallel which allows my hips to do most of the work. Quad involvement is minimized and compensating is the easiest way to bigger weights. The second video is my first attempt to fix this. .

๐Ÿฅ‹Our bodies are master compensators! We mustn't ONLY focus on the weight in our reps but the quality as well. This will save you from plateaus and more importantly injuries in the future. Quality first, quantity second. (I'll elaborate on squat technique so you can avoid this too ๐Ÿ˜‰) .

๐Ÿ”‹If you're worried about regressing in your dominant muscles, a good workout program can incorporate them in other exercises. For example, I do Romanian deadlifts after squats which are very back and hamstring intensive. Less fatigue in the squat means more in the tank for Romanians! A win-win.

โš ๏ธ Generally the best way to spot someone lifting is to allow the person to fail (i.e. The weight starts moving backwards) and then begin to help them lift the weight. Of course if the dude is lifting more than your deadlift then that's a different story haha. Some people are pickier about this than others but you can't go wrong with this method ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿฝ

I'm so happy I finally got this. If you've been following me for a while then you'll know that it's been a minute since I last maxed on this exercise. For me everything was on the line- if I didn't get it this than that would mean my 405lb one rep max back in May hadn't increased one bit. After 3 months I was able to pull 5 pounds more belt-less and with better form! Thanks for all the support you guys :)

๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผ Recently I've struggled a lot with the deadlift. Of course every rep is literally going to be a struggle to get up, but I haven't always looked at it that way. A big part of your lifting game is mental. Many people don't think that when they perform each rep it is literally a performance!

๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿฝโ€โ™‚๏ธ My mental game when it came to deadlifting recently hasn't been on point. I would think to myself- "if I'm getting stronger than these reps should feel lighter than last time" and every second of struggle was evidence to the contrary. I'd fall into lazy habits when it came to my form and if I video'd it I'd see mistakes I could have prevented.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ My advice to myself and people who are trying to get the most out of lifting- accept that struggling is okay. Embrace the panting and sweating and feelings of fatigue after every set you perform. Those are the feelings that tell you that it's working!

โ–ช๏ธTangible Goals. If your goals have numbers in them you're on the right track. Strength goals (lift x on y exercise), weight/size goals (x pounds, y hip size), or even attendance goals (go to the gym x times per week) are all tangible goals. Strength goals are my go to, but beginners should focus on just showing up .
โ–ช๏ธBaby Steps. Focus on getting just one more rep, on losing just one more inch, just one more step- This will keep you on track and keep things manageable. Instead of feeling overwhelmed with guilt trying to make drastic changes to avoid failure, small steps take little energy, little commitment, and carry little emotional weight if you do skip out on them .
๐Ÿ—๏ธ Simple Psychology Trick: Habits are forged when a behavior is consistent, no matter the quality or length of the behavior. For example, if getting in shape is your New Years resolution, just entering the gym is enough! Not only will you want to do something after arriving, you will build a habit of showing up. Slow and steady beats short bursts any day. One step is enough to open the door to change ๐Ÿšช๐ŸŒŸ .
