There's the Palacio Real, Madrid.... and there's Real Madrid

Bullring stadium with Islamic arches.
Also the place where pickpockets attack. They squirt dirty brown-green liquid at you. While you're shocked and disgusted by the mess on your clothes of what you believe is massive bird droppings, the pickpockets will help themselves with your belongings. You'd be too distracted to notice your bags being opened. Some will even offer help to clean while rummaging through your pockets.

Finally an impressive centuries-old structure that is secular in nature - a castle/palace. Nevertheless, it was also built on extreme inequality and exploited labour.

By the 4th day in the Iberian peninsular, all churches begun to look the same... #segovia #Spain #europe #church #cathedral #sept2017 #xiaomimimax

Aqueducts. I first learned this word from the PC game Sid Meier's Civilization. Despite the descriptions, I just could not fathom a structure that can channel water miles away by gravity. The slope angle has to be just right for the water to flow to minimise the structure height and length. Pumps weren't invented yet. Could the Romans really build this massive scale structure with ancient technology?
Until I saw this in person. 100% impressed. Did not disappoint. Makes me appreciate the modern water system that we often take for granted.

Central large round dome surrounded by four tall minarets at the corners of the square foundation - the basic features of a mosque architecture. But a church it is.

In terms of scale and architectural intricacies, this church is the most impressive I've seen. Perhaps its location at a huge open plaza, instead of usual gothic narrow streets, made it easier to relatively scaled to a human size (they look like ants). And perhaps it is among the only few churches in Spain that doesn't require a fee to go in and admire the interior, which is even more impressive.

Saw the cross and felt sad that I didn't have half a day to hike all the way up there. Oh well, I'd just hike as far as time permits and get some views from the other side. Turns out the cross is only an hour's stroll.

Part 2 compilation of Barcelona. Love the Plane trees that lined up along the streets. It diffuses the sunlight into a pleasant warm glow.

May Catalonia gets its rights to determine its own future.

Narrow alleyways. Roman arches. Ancient pillars.

Cubist sculptures depicting the scene of Christ crucifixion. Nativity (birth) on the eastern facade, Passion (death) on the western facade, to coincide with the eastern sunrise and western sunset.
If Gaudi had designed this a few centuries earlier, would he be persecuted by the Spanish Inquisition for implying that Jesus was Sun God instead of Son of God?

Finally Iberian photos after clearing some old travel photos. This is an iconic building of Barcelona, which I nicknamed it The Hornet Nest, or Zerg Hive. Started in 1885, it'll take another 10 years or so to finish. So if you're planning to visit Barcelona and wish to take this photo without the construction cranes, it might be best for you to visit 10 years later, which might then be a new country of Catalonia.
