#ELEPHANTS CITES CoP17 is crucial to the survival of the African Elephant. Conservation leaders are all gathered here with the delegates who will vote to or not to offer this keystone species the most protection possible. An Elephant is killed for its #IVORY every fifteen minutes. An aerial survey covered 345000 square miles and 18 countries to count the number of Elephants that are left on this continent. In the 19th century Africa was home to an estimated 12 million Elephants, we have lost 97% of these Elephant. We have to thank @vulcaninc @frankfurt.zoological.society @thewcs @savetheelephants for this knowledge. We have been told that Swaziland, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa do not want the Elephants listed on APPENDIX1 CITES. We know that 29 other African countries do, led by Kenya and these include Botswana and Ethiopia. The USA do want to protect the remaining Elephant. We know that the EU including the UK are undecided although France wants to vote for APPENDIX1 and save the Elephant.
