Came home to this roasted pork shoulder tonight! It has been slow cooking in my oven @ 250 degrees all day (about 8 hours). I threw in some broccoli 🥦 and carrots 🥕 the last hour to make sure I got my veggies in! ⠀

The sad truth is that most people start their day with a sugar bomb each morning without even realizing it. 🍭🍬

For instance, at Starbucks - the blueberry muffin has whopping 30 grams of sugar which is just as much as their vanilla buttercream cupcake that has 34 grams. Say what?!!⠀

A lot of foods that are perceived as “healthy” breakfast options such as yogurt, smoothies and granola bars can be actually be full of added sugars. Ingesting that much sugar in the morning sets your body up for a mid-morning energy crash and cravings all day long. ⠀

Check the food labels on your go-to breakfast items for the sugar content. You may be surprised! ⠀

Oh the power of food!! Last night, I had a session with a client who came to me after spending 3 years and thousands of dollars on personal trainers/workout classes with NO RESULTS. In fact, she had actually gained weight. When I started working with her about a month ago, her focus was all about exercise and not on what she was fueling her body with. She didn’t understand the importance of food and rather just focused on working out for hours a day vs. eating a eating clean, organic and nutrient-dense diet.⠀⠀
After reviewing what was in her pantry, dissecting her typical grocery list and going through a “day-in-the-life” of what she was eating, it became clear that it was what she was eating that was stopping her from seeing results! ⠀⠀
In just a few weeks, we had customized a keto meal plan for her, re-stocked her pantry/fridge and scaled back her workouts. And do you know what happened?! The weight started dropping right off her! ⠀⠀

So true! To make any change in your life and health, you actually have to CHANGE something!! ⠀

Trust me - even small changes make a difference. 🙌 Like swapping out your sugary creamer in your coffee to vanilla ghee/coconut oil 🥥 or grabbing an avocado 🥑 with pink Himalayan salt for a snack instead of a bag of chips. ⠀

The most important part is that you just make a commitment to yourself to start implementing these changes. Because if nothing changes, nothing changes...⠀ #keto #change #transformationtuesday


Nuts are NOT created equal when it comes to keto!! I figured I would share this fun fact since my husband and I just got back from Trader Joe's, where he was shocked to find out that nuts had different carb counts (as he put 4 bags of cashews in our cart)😂😂!⠀

Cashews actually have 8g net carbs for 1/4 cup serving vs. macadamias having only 2g net carbs for the same serving size. Almonds are somewhere in the middle with 4g net carbs for 1/4 serving size.⠀

A lot of my clients aren’t aware of these carb differences so I thought this was an important fact to callout.⠀

You can still have nuts on keto, but you should be cognizant of these macros. Make sure to read the food labels and do the math. 🔢

I personally love macadamias and they are full of healthy fats!! ⠀

Just make sure to eat nuts in moderation and mindfully because it is easy to eat a whole bag of nuts in one sitting if you aren’t paying attention.⠀

I recommend that you pre-portion them into smaller containers so that you don’t overdue it. 💯 #keto #ketogenic #keto #almonds #macadamia

It is all about balance! Last night I had a 15 course meal at Chef’s Table inside Brooklyn Fare. It was incredible, decadent and so darn good!! ⠀

I knew going into the dinner that not every course was going to be keto-friendly so I made the mindful decision of enjoying the meal and not feeling remorse. ⠀

I savored each course and each bite and not one ounce of guilt crossed my mind. ⠀

In the past, I would have seen this meal as an excuse to eat bad the rest of the weekend and then tell myself - “I will get back to my diet on Monday”. Then Monday would come around and I would eat healthy for a few days and then fall off the wagon by Wednesday. Sound familiar?⠀

This constant start and stop of whatever so called “diet” that I was on at the time confused my body and I never saw lasting results or true health. ⠀

I take my sleep seriously and make it a priority every day. A good night's sleep is incredibly important for health. In fact, it is just as important as eating healthy and moving your body. ⠀⠀⠀
Sleep is your body's time to recover from the day's activities, recharge and get ready for the next day. It is also the time when your body has the ability to heal. ⠀⠀⠀
Aim for at least 7-8 hours of shut eye each night. I usually wake up between 6-7am each morning so that means when my watch strikes 9pm - I am starting my nightly sleep ritual (a relaxing bath with lavender, no phones or TV, and then reading a good book in bed with dim lights). Creating a nightly routine signals to your body to start winding down. ⠀⠀⠀

If you were to ask me a few years ago, if I was a morning person - I would have answered “No Way!!” 🚫🚫

Back then, I could not get out of bed in the morning and felt sluggish all day. Looking back, I realize how inflamed my body was and how what I was fueling it with (fat-free lattes, low-fat yogurt, granola bars, Lean Cuisines), all which are marketed as “healthy” were actually doing more harm than good. 🤦‍♀️⠀

I had a wake up call when I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and was determined to BEAT IT! 👊 Luckily, after thousands of hours of research - I came across the ketogenic diet. 🙌 It made perfect scientific sense and I took it one step further by focusing on whole REAL foods - just like how our ancestors ate. It worked like a charm and I stopped my ulcerative colitis in its tracks (oh and shed excess pounds, got rid of my cystic acne and gained endless amounts of energy)!! 💯💯💯

Trust me - if this former fast food junkie can do it - ANYONE CAN! Now I sleep like a baby at night and pop out of bed as soon as my alarm goes off. When I first start working with new clients, we always go over what they are currently eating. ⠀

More often than not, my clients think they are starting the day off right with a smoothie. But when I ask what they put in their smoothie, they proceed to rattle off a large list of fruits (bananas, mangoes, apples, oranges), as well as honey, maple syrup and agave to sweeten it. In other words, their smoothies are full of SUGAR!!⠀

Starting your day off with a fructose-filled smoothie sets you up for an all day blood sugar roller coaster ride full of cravings, sluggishness and bloating. And who wants that?!⠀
Instead of all that sugar, I tell my clients to load their smoothies with healthy fats, greens, fiber, collagen and just a small amount of berries! This combination will jumpstart your energy and keep you satiated all morning!! Plus, it will set you up for making healthy food decisions all day because your blood sugar will be stabilized.⠀

So let’s upgrade your fruit-based smoothie to my fat-burning version!⠀

Chocolate Coconut Smoothie⠀

- 1 cup full fat coconut milk ⠀
- 1 scoop collagen⠀
- Handful of fresh spinach ⠀
- Handful of blueberries (about a ½ cup) ⠀
- 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed or chia seed ⠀
- ¼ avocado ⠀
- 1 tablespoon raw cacao powder⠀
- Ice (as desired)⠀

Add all ingredients into a high-speed blender and blend until smooth. Garnish with cacao nibs and coconut flakes. Enjoy!!! 💯💯 #keto #ketogenicdiet #ketosmoothie

Flashback to a night out in Miami and eating @habitatmiamibeach! My absolute favorite new restaurant in South Beach! ⠀
People often ask me - how do you eat out on keto? Here are my tips! First, I always look for restaurants that locally source their food and are focused on quality ingredients. The "Farm-to-Table" trend has made finding these restaurants a lot easier! ⠀⠀
Next, I order the highest-fat protein on the menu (steak, salmon, burger (no bun or ketchup), dark-meat chicken). Unless I am 100% sure the sauces that come with the meat are sugar-free, I ask for it plain or with butter. ⠀⠀
As for side dishes, I am a huge fan of a veggie-filled salad (no croutons and dressing on the side) or roasted veggies (asparagus, Brussel sprouts, broccoli) or simply a sliced avocado. I always keep a travel size bottle of olive oil and a pink Himalayan salt shaker in my purse to season my food. (Yes - I am one of these people! LOL!) ⠀⠀
The key is to make sure you don't go to the restaurant STARVING! When that happens, all self-control seems to go out the window. So make sure you are filling up on healthy fats throughout the day to ensure you are satiated and can make a mindful decision. ⠀⠀
PRO TIP: When the waiter/waitress greets the table, ask them to not bring the bread basket! #ketotips #keto #ketogenicdiet #nobreadzone

CSA Stands for Community Supported Agriculture and these organizations enable people to have direct access to high quality, fresh produce grown locally by regional farmers. If you haven’t already, you should look into joining a CSA. Just google “CSAs near me” to find one. The taste and freshness of the produce is so much better than what you would find at a grocery store! Also, the produce lasts so much longer too!! ⠀

Zucchini’s are made for spiralizing and that is just what I did! I made my Shrimp “Zoodle” Salad to have for lunch today. 💯💯 It is such a simple recipe and is also delicious! This pretty much sums it up! Ditch the artificial flavors, chemical food colors, toxic preservatives, and harmful hydrogenated oils of “low-fat” cheeses and other processed foods! The same goes for margarine or other butter substitutes! ⠀

Instead, go for the real deal!! My go to’s are full-fat, grass-fed, raw cheeses from the farmer’s market and creamy, buttery @fourthandheart ghee! 💯💯
