Here's @laruetourne during one of their days out in Paris 🇫🇷❤️ People of all ages come together in the city to #DoSomethingForNothing Helping those living on the street feel loved. I've been lucky enough to spend some time with them and see the impact they are making in their communities. If you live in Paris, get involved! Love you guys! - @joshuacoombes
This post from @lovelyfrancesca is beautiful. What a perfect way for children to connect and bring a smile to someone that needs it ・・・
Made some tahini flapjacks for the @refugee_community_kitchen, off to feed street sleepers in Calais, Paris & Brussels. The kids decorated the box with little pictures and have written on the side "I love you so much" "Here are some flapjacks for you" and, randomly, "you smell nice" 💔 thanks @maudmilton & @debbieblisshome for organising ❣️
If you don't already know @the_brittjames then you really should! This guy lives and breathes kindness in his community in Philadelphia, U.S. Here's a recent post from Britt -
96 degrees today.
Perfect day to hand out water and other necessities in Kensington with @realhumanist and @mindful.healing - Tony, one of the first guys to approach us, asked if we had any t-shirts. Honestly, it's something that we never have or get donations for. However, this time around there was a bag in the car that was full of t-shirts that were donated by our community friends at @togtees for the purpose of distributing to those in need of some assistance. I sorted through the bag to find a shirt to fit Tony, both size wise and personality wise. I found my favorite design, "Old School," and handed it to Tony. He held it up to his body and smiled from ear to ear. He looked up at me and said, "This is perfect. Thank you!" I asked if I could take a picture and he more than willingly agreed and even changed into his new tee to model it.
Watching him put on this clean, fresh, new t-shirt and brush it flat against him with pride and smile and thank me over and over again was more than enough to make my day complete. After putting the shirt on it was obvious that Tony's whole attitude changed and he seemed to be in brighter spirits than when he first approached us. It most certainly is the little things that make the all the difference in the world. 🙌🏽 #DoSomethingForNothing
Amazing weekend at the @thedolectures 🙌🏽 #DoSomethingForNothing is about all of you guys and everybody that's joining in with this growing movement, worldwide. Let's keep using social media to carve a message of humanity, community and hope for those who need it. Big love to all 💛This is the beginning. - @joshuacoombes
This is the wonderful Chris. Earlier this year he met Tatiana who runs @tihmodels - Tatiana started this project to photograph those we see on our streets each day in a different light. Anybody that's worked with homeless men or women will have heard just how invisible people can feel at times. Well, @tihmodels aims to make them visible once more and has had an amazing response from the models so far, collaborating nicely with @bethany_williams_london 🙌🏽 Go check it!#DoSomethingForNothing
Meet fashion designer @bethany_williams_london - Her incredible work is creating waves in the fashion world. She believes that social and environmental issues go hand in hand and through exploring the connection between these issues we can find innovative design solutions to sustainability. Chris and Mustapha, both homeless, are modelling Bethany's current collection ‘Breadline’ which aims particularly to highlight and help find solutions to the hidden hunger in the UK. Go check out this inspirational person! @bethany_williams_london 💛💛💛 More on another very inspirational girl in London who works with Bethany later today - @tihmodels #DoSomethingForNothing
By now, I'm pretty sure you all know about the amazing @jadestreetvet - reaching out to help homeless dogs on her day off. Well guess what, she's won an award!! 👏🏼 🏆
The Unsung Hero award at @dog_fest to be precise. Jade's constant work on the street has inspired vets all over the U.K to go out and do the same.
I still remember the first time I met Jade and her passion to get involved with #DoSomethingForNothing - Now, a year later, she's truly living and breathing this movement. Incredible 💛✌️ -@joshuacoombes
Word up people! How are you? Yes it's Monday but we want to mention something pretty awesome that happens every Sunday in Dublin 🇨🇮💚 @pizzasundayclub set up every week to help the homeless communities, breaking down social barriers as they go. Love this initiative to bring people together and #DoSomethingForNothing ! 😊
Community spirit in west London today. Sending love to all those effected by the terrible fire at Grenfell Tower last night. If there's one thing Londoners are good at, it's coming together in tough times. When anything as awful as this happens, it brings out the compassion in everyone. It's so incredible to see how many people have gone to help out 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽Lets keep living and loving that way. #DoSomethingForNothing
On Tuesday, the students of the Colegio Corazón de Maria presented this video to me before my talk. It's incredible to see how engaged everybody was and see how they have been inspired by the #dosomethingfornothing movement 🙌🏽
I'm full of hope for the future after a day with everybody here! Amazing work! 😊✌️- @joshuacoombes
#DoSomethingForNothing group in Zamora, Spain yesterday! It was incredible to see how the students have been using the hashtag in their own way. I went speak to different year groups about the power of using social media for good 🙌🏽 Thank you all for having me and making me feel loved! - @joshuacoombes 💛✌️
@joshuacoombes - Throw back to #DoSomethingForNothing in Mexico 🇲🇽❤️ I still think about Henrico today and wonder how he's doing. Here's the story from that day we met -
This is Henrico, 50 years old.
I met Henrico in Parque de las Palapas, a square where lots of people gather in downtown Cancún. When I first approached him, he was upset and searching for something - "I just fell asleep for twenty minutes and woke up and someone had stolen my books." It was sad to see him like this and the perfect opportunity to show him some kindness.
Henrico is Italian, his wife divorced him eight years ago, so he left Italy and went to South America stopping in Rio de jeniro first of all. He then moved on from Brazil and went to Colombia, then El Salvador. Speaking Portuguese, Spanish, French and English he has no problems getting to know new people. In El Salvador he fell in love with a women and started working on her fathers coffee farm for two years. Unfortunately things didn't work out between them so he moved once more to Mexico, where he intends to try stay to apply for residency.
Henrico used to live here in Cancún for two years when he was younger., when he trained to be a scuba diving instructor. He has fond memories and decided this as good a place as any to start a new life. At present, without any money, Henrico is waiting for a lucky break. It seems these long days in limbo have taken it's toll on him, as I can see that he now relies heavily on alcohol to get him through. This doesn't make things any easier, but there was a twinkle in his eye that nobody will take away from him, I'm optimistic he'll get off the street. Just the couple hours we spent together turned his day around. He was buzzing during the haircut, singing, laughing and saying - "God has blessed me today." After the haircut he took us on a tour of the the local area, pointing out every building and what it is used for. Also telling me facts and stories about Mayan history. I love this guy. #DoSomethingForNothing
Incredible evening and panel discussion at the kick starter event for @papakowbaiden book 'In Our Hands' - This gives the public a better insight into homelessness and challenging all the stereotypes that surround the issue. Amazingly inspiring guy, on a mission for change. Visit his page and help support if you can! ❤️#DoSomethingForNothing
Meet @papakombaiden - This evening, he'll be hosting his Kickstarter launch event, sharing the result of two and a half years of work on his book 'In Our Hands' I'm really happy to be attending as part of a panel discussion. Hope to see you there! For more details on the event, see link in bio section 👍 - @joshuacoombes
Meet Chris @leamy_alone - His #DoSomethingForNothing is incredible. Chris goes out on the streets of New York City with his guitar and plays to people sleeping rough there. Bringing smiles via music! 😊 What an amazing way to give. I know how much music means to me each day, go check out his page to see what it means to the people he meets 🙌🏽
Give it up for @brynjaywhitmore 🙌🏽 I had the pleasure of speaking to him, amongst other young hair stylists and barbers about #DoSomethingForNothing in Wales last year. It's amazing to see the ripple effect - they're now using their skills to spread the love, cutting hair of the homeless community in Gloucester. Incredibly talented barber and an inspiration. Keep it up little bro! 👊🏽-@joshuacoombes
If you haven't heard me mention them before, meet Lolly @realhumanist and Britt @the_brittjames -
In short, the impact these two have on their communities each day is incredible. Not just in Philadelphia but across the U.S and beyond. They inspire me and so many others. I was lucky enough to meet them on a recent trip, so yeah, I can say first hand how bloody amazing they are! 🙌🏽 We spent the weekend together on the streets of Philly. I saw just how much love they give to the homeless there, providing hope for those who can feel all but lost.
This is the greatest thing about social media, just how connected we all are now. If we can keep on harnessing this for good, the possibilities are endless. If you're inspired then join this movement where you are. This can start with just you and a few friends heading out one day to show people who feel forgotten that you care. Compassion starts with just sitting down and listening. Big love to all of you for constant support, this is the beginning. #DoSomethingForNothing -@joshuacoombes ✌🏽❤️
