"Inside every guide dog beats the heart of a puppy raiser"
Our volunteer puppy raisers look after, care for, and lay the foundation for training a puppy. They provide hours of patient teaching and numerous socialization journeys over a 12 to 16 month period, before they return a well-socialized young adult dog to Guiding Eyes training staff.
All of the raiser’s hard work culminates when a visually impaired person receives his or her priceless gift − a guide dog providing independence, companionship, and mobility.

A #throwback to our graduation from December 2016 featuring #GuidingEyes graduate Terry & his #guidedog Mac.
“When I walk around I realize that with a guide dog it will be ok. And the #companionship is #priceless. Mac and I have the same personality. It’s amazing."
“No one can prepare you for the change a guide dog has in your life. There’s a sense of security and safety. The future looks a lot better. I’m also a songwriter and volunteer at nursing homes playing and singing four times a week. It’s what I love to do.”
Taken from a song Terry wrote for his Guiding Eyes graduation: "journeys once uncertain, now become so clear."

BREAKING: We just confirmed that two generous donors are willing to match all online #donations to #GuidingEyes – but only until the ball drops! This is the LAST CHANCE to make a tax-deductible #donation in 2017, PLUS it'll be worth twice as much.

Woof and warmest greetings! Halo is having an exciting Christmas: as you can see in the family photo, she had six new stockings to fill with puppy treats this year!
And we have a very special #ChristmasGift for you: On Thursday, December 28th, you can meet these playful furballs on the first-ever Guiding Eyes #PuppyCam!
You'll get to see all six of Halo's puppies snoozing and having fun – but we are most excited that these pups have a big job ahead. They will grow up to be #GuideDogs and fill not just the holidays, but every day with #independence and adventure for someone with vision loss.
Laurel Sheets is a #GuidingEyes trainer. She spent a week blindfolded alongside our #blind or #VisuallyImpaired students as they trained to be paired with a #GuideDog.
Eldon was Laurel’s guide dog companion throughout the blindfolded portion of her training. And they hit it off so much so that Laurel brought Eldon home over Thanksgiving.
Help sponsor dogs like Eldon who work hard every single day to change the lives of those who are visually impaired. Every donation counts! Link in our bio.
Meet Arrow! She is seven weeks old and SUPER excited for 2018. She just finished puppy "kindergarten," but her big dream is to grow up to be a guide dog.
But the reason she even has the chance to become a grown-up guide dog is thanks to the “treats” that humans give to Guiding Eyes for the Blind. (Arrow LOVES treats.) Chip in whatever treats you can to help Arrow and puppies like her grow up to be amazing guide dogs Click the link in our bio!
"Sooooo proud of our girl! Dancy has passed IFT and is moving in to the next level of training. We will miss her terribly, but can’t wait to watch her succeed" - @clb_73
Have you considered puppy-raising?
We provide: the puppy, all physical materials, training classes, support, dog-sitters, & a passionate community.
You provide: a loving home, time, & patience.
We are extremely proud that so many raisers enjoy our program enough to renew their commitment to raise another puppy. In fact, 69% are repeat raisers, and some people have raised more than 30 puppies!
We have puppy raising regions throughout the east coast (as far south as North Carolina and as far west as Ohio/Colorado). Please contact us for more information!

This week, our December class students arrived, ready to learn and meet their new partners. On Thursday, the Guiding Eyes family - students, trainers, and staff - will sit down together for a Thanksgiving feast.
That's what makes #GuidingEyes so special; not only do we provide superb guide dogs to people with vision loss completely free of charge. We also give our students a home away from home while they train. This creates a truly special sense of community.
You are an essential part of this community, too. Your generous support makes all of this incredible work possible. So, before you sit down for your Thanksgiving dinner, please make a donation of $5 or more to make this holiday, and all the holidays to come, even more special at Guiding Eyes for the Blind. Click the link in the bio to support our life-changing pups. (Picture features puppies Hyde, Harlow, and Heyden)
We are so excited to announce our partnership with @boehringer_ingelheim for a special #GivingTuesday campaign.

Get a head start on Giving Tuesday - no money required! Multiple posts per person and/or animals are not only allowed, but encouraged to help us meet our goal!
