⚠️ Go LOCO for LOCAL ⚠️ Maybe you’ve heard of the local movement, of eating local or being on the “100 mile diet”.

These are ways of learning to be a locavore: one who believes in producing, purchasing, and consuming locally grown foods.
.
Buying from your local farmers and markets can help to reduce or eliminate costs but also helps to support your community to thrive.
.
The biggy for me is that buying locally grown fruits and vegetables is that it’s healthier and better for you. This is because they are given the time to ripen naturally, allowing nutrients that occur in the plant to mature, rather than being harvested before ripening, as is often the case with conventional produce.
.
And chances are they are fresher and less susceptible to harmful contamination, since the food go straight from farm to your table.
.

Channeling my inner vegan this last week in San Diego and learning some amazing recipes from our friend Sophia.

I’m a omnivore but I only eat meat in moderation. We simply don’t need a ton of it to reap the benefits.
A plant based menu for the majority of our meals is truly the healthiest. There are so many ways to get the essentials in our diet without meat. Plus it can also be so tasty!

Do you feel like you are constantly racing to use up your greens before the go soggy or dry up? I sure do! My biggest food pet peeve is having soggy lettuce🙋🏼‍♀️

There is a limited shelf life for your fresh greens and to utilize the health benefits of them you want to consume them as soon as possible.
.
Pro tip: purée them and freeze them into cubes right from the market. Then you can pop them into your smoothie in the mornings. It’s also a great way to get greens into your kid meals. #momwin

She asked me “What do your hormones have to do with anything?” Let me explain what I said to her that changed her body for ever!

If I were to ask you what your metabolism is, what would you say? I bet you would answer, “The way my body burns calories.”

Am I right!? I thought so for years, but that’s wrong. That’s one of the key things it does. But do you know what it is?

The answer is your hormones! Your metabolism is your biochemistry. I know yuck... sounds like school but it’s the way your body works.

Some hormones tell you you’re hungry, some tell you you’re full. When you eat, hormones tell your body what to do with that food, whether to store it or burn it as fuel.

Before you start judging yourself for not being where you want to be in your health and fitness journey, this would be a good moment to remind yourself that where ever you are is a PERFECT place to be.

Health is a dynamic thing.
That’s it. Pure and simple.
.
The beauty in that is you have the ability to improve it at anytime in your life. When I found out I had a genetic heart arrhythmia (although I am still asymptomatic) that could potential be fatal, I used it to fuel me to take care of myself. It reminded me that it was a continual thing to work towards caring for my body and health.
.
I get to wear this fancy heart monitor and have a stress test once a year to make sure it’s ticking ok. But everyday I have the ability to make choices to take care of my health.
.
That it’s so much more than the way you look. It’s what’s happening on the inside that matters most. And that shows on the outside.
.
So, if you are at a place where you want to finally feeling more energy, loose that stubborn pounds, feel happy and healthy, it is possible.
.
You can feel amazing no matter what you’ve been told or are telling yourself. You are able to make the changes, you are powerful, strong and capable of achieving anything you want!
.

Let me tell you a secret: I haven’t always loved working out. To be completely honest, you couldn’t get me to workout as a kid for the life of me. It wasn’t until I realized in my 20s how moving my body gave me clarity, feel powerful & energized.

As a coach I couldn’t care less of someone has 6-pack abs or buns of steel if you aren’t thriving in your life. I want you to feel happy, healthy & energized from the inside out. I use fitness to empower women to feel strong and confident and that strength transcends into other parts of your life.

But the huge shift comes with your diet and aspects of your lifestyle. Once you take control of what does into your body and mind, you are able to harness that power.

Our friends saved our winter vacation when they handed us this black powder...
.
Remember the excitement you felt when you arrived on your winter getaway vacation. Stepped off the plane to the warm air blowing on your face, sand between your toes and margarita in your hand. It was a week you had longed for all year.
🏝️
But then a couple days in you get a twinge in your stomach... oh no!!!! and spend the next 3 days in bed or worse in the bathroom! That is the opposite of a vacation!
.
About 3 years ago this happened to us on our winter getaway to the Baja. Our friends saved our trip when handed us some Activated Charcoal and now we never travel without it! AC binds to heavy metals and toxins to help carry it out of your body.

Today is the Winter Solstice ❄️ and it marks a significant turning point and start of a new cycle. 🌲 It’s the first day of winter and a time for inward reflection. It’s a time to take a moment to pause and work out if our actions are aligned with where we want to be.

In Chinese Medicine we use nature as a clue as to where we should be focusing our energy. The trees are bear, animals are hibernating, all of nature is slowing down in order to regenerate.

Have you been all go, go, go? Where are my type A hustler ladies at?! I feel ya! But busy isn’t actually better and can lead to adrenal burnout and thyroid imbalances. We need to listen to nature and slow down and conserve our energy.

Most of us spend the year in a constant state of busyness so we never really stop and pause and see what is bubbling within.
.
The Winter Solstice is a time to slow down and tune in which can help you to move forward and make progress in whatever direction you choose.
.
Use this Solstice energy to take some downtime, and to really feel the calling of your heart. You will feel far more grounded, life becomes more fluid, and this is the exact energy we need as we venture into the New Year ✨💕🌿

In the spirit of keepin it real on this page because we all know that these little squares have the ability of making us feel unworthy. Scrolling through others instafeeds who make things look perfect and sparkly, I want to share a space of real life, especially with our relationship with our bodies.

⚠️ GUILT-FREE ALERT⚠️ The Holiday season is hard! I get it! Double tap if you agree that there is a new box of chocolates at every turn or table!

Here is my secret for escaping the Holiday season without throwing your system off with a boat load of refined sugar. #happyhormones #happygut

You know that feeling when you keep popping the cookies and chocolate in your mouth but not really enjoying it? My trick is making my own simple home goodies that are WAY more yummy and 10X better for you and you won’t even be tempted by those purple boxes.
.
Try this amazing Coconut Chocolate Bark recipe!
.
Ingredients:
1/4 cup raw hazelnuts
1/4 cup raw pumpkin seeds
1/3 cup large flake dried coconut
1/2 cup virgin coconut oil
1/2 cup cocoa or cacao powder, sifted if necessary
1/4 cup pure maple syrup
1 tablespoon smooth almond butter, optional
pinch fine sea salt
.
Directions:
Preheat oven to 300F. Line a 9" square pan or a small baking sheet with two pieces of parchment paper, one going each way. Set aside.
.
Add nuts on a baking sheet and roast in the oven for 10 minutes. Remove baking sheet and add the coconut flakes and spread out. Continue roasting the nuts and coconut flakes for another 3-4 minutes, or until the coconut is lightly golden. Watch closely to avoid burning - coconut burns fast!
.
Place hazelnuts on several sheets of damp paper towel. Wrap the hazelnuts and rub them vigorously with the paper towel until the skins fall off. It’s ok if some skins don’t come off. Discard the skins and roughly chop the nuts.
.
In a medium saucepan, melt the coconut oil over low heat. Remove from heat and whisk in the cocoa (or cacao) powder, maple syrup, and almond butter (if using) until smooth. Add a pinch of sea salt to taste. Stir in half of the nuts.
.
With a spatula, spoon the chocolate mixture onto the prepared parchment-lined pan or sheet and smooth out until it's about 1/4-1/2 inch thick. Sprinkle on the remaining nuts and all of the coconut flakes. Place into freezer on a flat surface for about 15 minutes, until frozen solid.
.
Once frozen, break apart into bark. Store in the freezer until ready to eat .
But free? Use goji berries and pumpkin seeds instead

Among other things, vitamin D impacts your sexy hormones, especially estrogen and our mood. Which, if you’re like most people, you definitely want them working as well as possible.

In the summer months we usually are exposed to more sunshine and feel high energy and frisky. There is a relationship between vitamin d and estrogen levels. Can you say Hello sex drive!

When we are low in vitamin D in the winter months (especially in the Northern Hemisphere), it can cause low estrogen levels, and affect your happy hormones, dopamine & serotonin. This can lead to SAD, aka winter blues and low sex drive.
☔️
It’s a good idea to ramp up your vitamin D foods, supplementation and exposure to some sunshine. So, eat some salmon, skip the sunglasses and hat when the sun is out and get some rays on your face (direct sun to our skin is how we absorb this amazing vitamin).

Don’t feel like you have to be an equatorial nudist to get adequate vitamin D, you can take a vitamin D supplement (D-3 is best), or grab a sun lamp for your desk at work and enjoy some facetime in the morning. If you love this beach like I do... book stay at the @thekutchercondo in beautiful Maui. You’ll be feeling frisky and happy in no time! 💃🏼💏✨🙋🏼
