It’s a busy time of year. I’m encouraging myself to simply ‘be’ on a fairly regular basis. (by dousing frankincense on my diffuser necklace for example) ... Would you share how you are encouraging yourself to do this too? I love hearing your tips. Also, please note this diffuser necklace made by my beautiful friend Dawn @yellowreformation
So this morning was pretty fun. Tried a brand new spot here in South Austin @hiveaustin that I’ve been wanting to enjoy. Enjoy we did! My kids played, and crafted (does Vivian have instagram???) while I enjoyed a latte and this incredible weather. And then my four-almost-five-year-old tripped over her feet and left with quite the skid mark on her face. ♀️ The cafe latte was as was the staff! (hello!!! ) ~ local ladies, go here, please. Take your wee ones. Support local. Also, I hear they have wine...
Touched by an Angel
We, unaccustomed to courage
exiles from delight
live coiled in shells of loneliness
until love leaves its high holy temple
and comes into our sight
to liberate us into life.
and in its train come ecstasies
old memories of pleasure
ancient histories of pain.
Yet if we are bold,
love strikes away the chains of fear from our souls
We are weaned from our timidity In the flush of love's light we dare be brave And suddenly we see that love costs all we are and will ever be. Yet it is only LOVE which sets us free
This is one of my favorite organizations. THIS is one of my favorite reads (full article link in bio) If you can take the time to read it: worth it. #Repost @preemptivelove (@get_repost)
It isn’t job training. It isn’t lifesaving medical care. It isn’t even food or water.
Of all the things this community does, the first is so simple it may go unnoticed: our first program is listening.
Some aid organizations in Iraq don’t even interact with locals, much less listen to them. It’s not uncommon for charities to literally toss boxes of aid into someone’s front yard without so much as a “hello.”
It’s like saying, “You’ve lost everything, and only we have anything to offer.”
Sad to say, many who come to do good—who genuinely desire to help—don’t seem interested in listening. Because listening is time-consuming, tedious, and often painful.
I moved with my family to Iraq nearly seven years ago. I wouldn’t have said it openly, but I didn’t come to listen. I came to give, to share, to love… and in subtle ways, that mentality elevated me over local people. It was a new, softer form of imperialism.
I spent years missing out on things they had to teach and on a chance to love them well—because love comes from understanding, understanding comes from shared pain, and you can’t know someone’s pain without really hearing and seeing them.
But most of us avoid that pain. You see, when we listen to moms who are suffering from depression or to dads who feel hopeless, that trauma gets into our own souls. It creeps in, and you start to hurt with them. You start caring about them.
And to really bring people out of whatever poverty they’re in—to really empower them—we have to start everything by listening and seeing the poverty that we are in.

Guys! This old school gas pump was giving me life! I KNOW. It sounds ridiculous but it took me back in a super nostalgic way to when I first learned to pump petrol and it made me think of my dad and a simpler time in life when everything was rainbows and mountaintops and wonder (which of course is completely false, but I sure like to remember it that way). Now I have a hundred children (only 5) and all the kuh-gauze that comes with them and life seems crazy and scary sometimes and people use bullets to kill their neighbors and it all seems far less than simple and less peppered with rainbows and mountaintops, but... (there’s always a but) there’s still plenty of wonder and I choose to cling to hope. My soul is anchored. #mayweneverloseourwonder
Extremely thankful for my sister @hrabiu that make days like this (and just about EVERY day that I don't have a child in tow) possible for me in this season of my life. Thanks Han!!! Today I'm continuing to educate myself here as I have a daughter who is "severely dyslexic" whatever you believe that looks like, feels like, or sounds like... We've been experiencing it for years. Did you know that October is Dyslexia Awareness Month? Now you know. Cheers! #yourewelcome #october #dyslexisawarenessmonth #ctxdyslexia
From my "Instastories" - y'all know that I work at the elementary school. I know I shared a similar experience last school year. Couldn't pass up a second. Basically, my life is full of loud. You're welcome #seriously #iloveit #ilovethesekids #notthenoisesomuch #willingtodealwithit #wornoutthough
Here she is with requested donut. "Mom! Can I please have a glazed doughnut? Because it's my birthday today and there are leftovers from my classroom and I've never had a glazed one before! Please?!?" Well. Since you've NEVER had one before and you're SEVEN today. #havalehsupriya #itssugarfridayagain #ifeelconfident #thiskidcouldchangetheworld
