Day 4: Things To Try If You Have a Harry Potter Shaped Hole In Your Life.
The Uncommoners by Jennifer Bell is the story of a world where nothing is quite what it seems. Seb and Ivy Sparrow stumble across something uncommon when their Granma has an accident, and in escaping the ensuing mayhem, find themselves in Lundinor, where ordinary objects have unusual powers. This book has a quick set up and launches you straight into the action. Lundinor is a well written, living breathing world, and Seb, Ivy and Valian are entertaining companions through it. The plot is fast paced with a few scary bits and this is an excellent start to what promises to be a fantastic series.
Cogheart by Peter Bunzl is the story of Lily, and takes place in a fascinating clockwork Victorian world. Again, amazing world building here, very immersive, and fantastic characters. Lily in particular is a brave and spirited heroine. The equally excellent and beautiful sequel Moonlocket has recently been published. The writing style reminds me of both Philip Pullman and Joan Aitken's Wolves of Willoughby Chase books; this is an excellent series to start reading!
Diana Wynne Jones wrote many amazing books; my favourites are the three Howl books, starting with Howl's Moving Castle. If you have seen the Studio Ghibli adaptation, you still need to read this, as it is both funnier and better. Wynne Jones has the elusive ability to make her fantasy books seem more real than the real world outside - something JK Rowling is also expert at.
The Letter for The King by Tonke Dragt was originally published some decades ago, but has only recently been translated into English. Tiuri is sent on a perilous mission to take a letter he must never read to a king that lives across the Great Mountains. Reminiscent of Tolkien, this is a fantastic story for both adults and children.

Fantastic review of #Moonlocket thx @jaynie.hufflepuff #repost (@get_repost)
'She had often found herself wondering if someone with such a heart could really offer friendship or love. But now she saw that that simply wasn't true. She had plenty of friends around her, and she loved each and every one of them dearly, most especially Robert.
The Cogheart was hers. As much as a part of her as an arm or a leg, or her thoughts or feelings. Integral to who she was and who she would become. Sometimes it ached for those she'd lost, and sometimes it soared with joy for those she'd found. But either way she felt one with it at last.' •
I just finished Moonlocket by Peter Bunzl and I think I may have loved it just a little bit more than Cogheart and that's saying something as that was one of my favourite books for last year. Twists, turns, mayhem, adventure, mystery and intrigue. I literally felt like I was part of this wonderful and dangerous Victorian/Steampunk work and was with Lily, Robert and Malkin every step of the way! I can't wait for hopefully more Cogheart adventures to come! Thank you @peter_bunzl for writing another fantastic book!! :)

Another steampunk romp through Victorian London awaits you. The follow up to Cogheart is full of intrigue and mystery (who is Jack Door?) a great read for over 9s to adults. Personally I can't wait for book number 3 in this series. I gave it 4/5 🌟 #peterbunzl #cogheart #moonlocket #bookstagram #bookshelf #books #instagrambooks #instabook #instareads #read #reading #readabook #goodreads #getstuckinabook

Middle Grade: Cogheart by Peter Bunzl ⚙️🦊Murder, mystery and a mechanical fox are all part of this wild adventure. The book is set in Victorian England with Lily as our heroine who teams up with Robert a clockmaker's son after her father has gone missing. They end up being pursued by evil villains as they all hunt for a perpetual motion machine. This is a real page turner and whilst it is the first in a series it doesn't leave us with a cliff hanger ending - thank goodness. Well worth a read. ⚙️ #middlegrademonday #middlegradereads
