Hi friends, kc here. My longtime friend and collaborator Gary Richrath passed away earlier today. I feel so sad. Gary was both a unique guitarist and songwriter, and the embodiment of the tough guy with a heart of gold. I learned most of what I know about being in a rock band from Gary Richrath. The entire REO Family mourns his death and shares in the grief of his family, friends, and fans. These words do not come close to expressing the depth of emotions I am feeling at this time...kc
PS. This photo has been on my music room table for as long as I can remember, and will stay there.#REOSpeedwagon
Hi friends, the REO Family was out in force for the Imagine REO Speedragons on the Jimmy Kimmel Show this past Monday. Look at all those smiling faces. We had a night to remember, surrounded by our beautiful wives and kids, the awesome Kimmel crew, and our new friends Imagine Dragons. Jimmy is a down to earth friendly guy. My sons Josh and Shane are true fans of the show and got selfies with both Jimmy and Guillermo. Shout out to our longtime buddy John "Wolky" Wolk who was instrumental in making this appearance happen. Below: Lisa, Jimmy, and KC. Hi friends, lots of big events coming up. Tonight we get to watch the Fight of the Century with Mayweather Jr. and Pacquiao, and Monday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live we get to see the Mash-Up of the Century, well certainly at least the mash up of the week with the debut of Imagine REO Dragonwagon, or is it REO Speed Dragon?
Call it what you will, we are all very psyched about this gig. I was on the phone with Wayne, the Dragon's guitarist yesterday and both bands are into performing "Roll With The Changes" like it has never been done before!
Then the Family First Tour starts kicking into gear. We are playing a more select schedule than usual this year, only because we all want more time at home. We all love playing live, but this summer we are going to conserve some energy. At the same time we worked up "Say You Love Me Or Say Goodnight", "In My Dreams", and have added Dave singing lead on "Stranglehold" to our encore. Dave took over when Derek St Holmes left Ted's band in the mid 80s and knows all those classic songs.
I have always had two loves, family and music. Keeping the two in balance is very important to me, but ultimately it is Family First. I am so fortunate to have a strong and supportive wife, (we just celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary), and four awesome children. I especially love it when family and music intersect as they did last weekend...
Dave, Bryan, and I did a benefit show for the William Shattner Foundation which funds a number of children's charities. We played an unplugged set at the LA Equestrian Center and were joined by the Cronettes, Lisa and Holly Cronin on backing vocals. At one point I had all of them, plus my sons Josh And Shane, and Bill and Liz Shattner on stage for our finale of Roll With The Changes. My grown son Paris was working that night. I was told that when my family was all together singing that I had a joyful glow all around me, and I believe it as I sure felt that way.
Okay, so make some popcorn, set your DVR, whatever it takes, but don't miss the REImagine O Wagon Dragons on Jimmy Kimmel, Monday at 11:30, 10:30 Central on ABC...kc
IMAGINE REO SPEEDRAGONS TO ROCK ABC’s JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE MAY 4
* * * * * “Mash Up Monday” with Imagine Dragons and REO Speedwagon in an Exclusive Musical Performance
Jimmy Kimmel will unite REO Speedwagon and Imagine Dragons to a one-time-only performance of “Mash Up supergroup” IMAGINE REO SPEEDRAGONS. Featuring a secret hit track, the performance will air on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday, May 4, at 11:35 p.m. / 10:35 p.m. CT on ABC.
REO Speedwagons’ Kevin Cronin said, “I talked to Wayne from Imagine Dragons yesterday, and both our bands are totally psyched about doing the ‘Mash Up Monday.’ We all love Jimmy and we're gonna play one of our favorites like it’s never been played before. IMAGINE REO SPEEDRAGONS is gonna f*ckin' rock!” “IMAGINE REO SPEEDRAGONS was destined to happen since the day Zeus thrust his mighty bolt to the earth,” said Imagine Dragons’ Dan Reynolds.
In February, Jimmy Kimmel Live launched “Mash Up Mondays” (#mashupmondays) a series of one-of-a-kind musical performances that brings together two big name bands to perform one of their classics in “pun-happy” combinations. Previous “Mash Up Monday” include such stars as Weezer and ZZ Top, aka Wee-Z Top; Kenny G and Warren G; Morris Day & The HAIM; and Blackstreet alongside Aloe Blacc as Aloe Blaccstreet.

Hi friends, things got pretty intense in the studio as Lee and I went nose to nose Chicago, (the city) style. You can tell by looking at these photos that we both had our Irish up as the discussion regarding who played third base on the '59 White Sox got very heated! Joe, the Maestro, Vannelli had to act as both producer and referee. You can see him trying to separate us before fisticuffs ensued...Okay, that was all a big fat lie. We heard that if people get in fights that it goes "viral" on social media. Kidding...Truth is Lee and I worked hard and had a great time. The AXS TV concert special featuring our show at Red Rocks Amphitheater is off the rails. Fans of both bands will get to see each of us play a set of hits, and then we all come together and play six number one songs, three from each band, all together. It is indescribable fun and energy. We will let you know the premiere date when it is set. Okay, gotta run...rock on, kc #KC#REOSpeedwagon#Chicago#BlueMoonStudio
Hi friends, I can assure you that there is no bigger compliment than when another artist covers one of our songs. Dolly Parton's version of "Time For Me To Fly" was nothing we would have ever come up with, which made it all the more cool. My son Shane turned me on to some original songs by a great young band from Long Beach, California called the Moderates last year. We dug them so much that we invited the band to open our show in San Diego this past summer. The Mods returned the favor by recording their take on "Roll With The Changes". I think it is awesome. You can see for yourselves...check it out on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xP4uauJJFug Also available on iTunes!Pictured backstage, Cronins and Moderates left to right: Josh Cronin, Wesley Mathison, me, Garrett Huff, Josh Taylor, Shane Cronin. #REOSpeedwagon
Dallas for the final night (for now) with our new touring brothers. You can hope for chemistry but cannot predict it. This combination of REO Speedwagon and Chicago has it in abundance. We will see each other again and again. Safe travels homeward! — Walter Tour Manger #REOSpeedwagon
Hi friends, one of the cool perks of touring is we play a number of big rock festivals such as Moondance Jam, where we played last night. I had some onstage dental issues which posed a challenge, but with the support of the band, and 20,000 amazing fans, I was able to rock my way through it...thanks you guys! Oh yeah, I was talking about the perks...so backstage at the festivals is so much fun. We get to hang with old friends like George Thorogood, who played an awesome set last night, and meet new friends like Jakob Dylan. Jakob walked right up to me, introduced himself as an REO fan, and we proceeded to talk about bands, the current state of music and touring, the importance of our families...I found Jakob to be quite charming and intelligent. Too bad I always forget to get people's contact info, I would like to talk to him again. Oh well, hopefully the Wallflowers will be on another show with us sometime soon. Meanwhile, I plan to rock my ass off here in Omaha tonight. I am a Midwest person and I love Midwest people. You guys are so loyal, you love to come out and hear live music, and you love to party, Let's rock out big time tonight...I'm so ready! kc
Hi friends, Lisa and I hung with our buddy Huey Lewis over post-concert Martinis and Chardonnay the other day in San Diego. Huey's Mom is a neighbor of Lisa's hippie sister Carla, and we bumped into her at a Grateful Dead fan club gathering up in Stinson Beach, CA...it's a long story! Anyway, Huey and I shared stories of overworked vocal cords, touring with Chicago, potential future golf outings, and charter jet fuselage surfing (Huey is an expert). Always awesome to hang with other rock'n roll survivors. Huey is as cool and funny as always. What would you guys think of an REO co-headline tour with Huey Lewis and the News sometime down the line? Okay, gotta run, big show at Rockfest here in Cadott, Wisconsin. We get to play along with Sammy Hagar, Winger, and Steel Panther tonight. Sounds good to me...let's rock! #REOSpeedwagon
