Today is the LAST DAY that you can sign the urgent petition to stop drilling in the Arctic. You literally just need to add your email, so it takes just seconds of your time to sign, and could go a long way in helping save one of the last pristine wildernesses that exists today from dirty oil drilling. This case could keep millions of barrels of oil in the ground, but the petition needs your signature.
-
Your signature will go as evidence against the Norwegian government, who Greenpeace are taking to court because the government wants to drill for oil in areas of pristine arctic, home to many amazing animals such as polar bears. An oil spill would destroy the Arctic ecosystems, and the area damaged wouldn’t recover for many decades. Oil is also a dirty fossil fuel, and using it now when the climate is being overwhelmed by emissions and we are on track for the warmest year in recorded history, is a plain stupid, ignorant and irresponsible decision by the Norwegian government.
-
PLEASE PLEASE take five seconds of your time and sign the petition in its final day. (link in bio, or swipe up on my story) If you would like more info I have done more detailed posts on this is the past further down my feed.

ELEPHANT UPDATE:
Trump has put a hold on his administration’s plan to lift the ban on trophy imports from elephant hunts — and it was YOU who made him do it!

To each and every person who voiced their outrage at the ban reversal: Thank you. You made this hold happen, and now we must keep the pressure on to that ensure logic prevails. Elephants face a plethora of threats to their survival, and we are doing so much to mitigate these threats, but hunting will not save them. There’s still a long way to go to save the species, but celebrate today — your voice made a big difference! #BeKindToElephants
-
Trump tweeted today “Big-game trophy decision will be announced next week but will be very hard pressed to change my mind that this horror show in any way helps conservation of Elephants or any other animal.” — I have no idea what this man means, he may be planning on going back and disabling the ban as he did before, or he may have completely changed his mindset and may now be referring to elephant trophy hunting as a ‘horror show’, showing that people power works, and now Trump is scrambling back to try a get some support back after his disastrous elephant decision created so much anger.
-
If you haven’t seen anything about his yet, or want some more info check out my last post for all the info on the current situation.

NEWS:
TRUMP LIFTING BAN ON IMPORT OF ELEPHANT TROPHIES, AND HOW YOU CAN HELP⬇️
-
Trump is continuing his relentless assault against the environment, and has now announced that he intends to lift the current ban on bringing elephant trophies back to the USA, a ban created by Obama in 2014. This is encouraging Americans (such as Trump’s own sons, who enjoy hunting elephants in Africa (coincidence!?)) to join in and further the merciless slaughter of one of the most iconic species on earth. This announcement caused huge public outrage and anger, so now Trump has turned back and put the change under ‘review’ (which anyone with a brain would have done before). Sign the petition in my bio to stop this ban from being lifted. This CANNOT happen.
-
PLEASE repost the second image (swipe left⬅️) with #BeKindToElephants
and the incredible Ellen Degeneres will make a donation to @DSWT (a elephant orphan sanctuary) in response to Trump’s announcement. Use #BeKindToElephants and the image (it was my post before this).

You can also do this on Twitter, and retweet the image on @theellenshow ‘s account, as she will be making a donation for every retweet.

Sign the urgent petition IN MY BIO, or swipe up on my story. There are also many more related petitions on change.org if you would like to have a bigger impact.

(FOR USA citizens) call your local congressman or senator and tell them that this is a VERY bad idea.
-
Whoever you are, please take the time to do all the above, and repost this or my last post with #BeKindToElephants , and retweet @theellenshow ‘s tweet about this. Both of these will equate into donations for @DSWT . Once you have done this comment below⬇️ and tag 3 friends to do the same.

I will be posting updates on my story, and if there is any big news on the situation I will do another post.

Again PLEASE REPOST with the # and tag 3 friends below to spread the word about this situation.🐘

If you have started looking for Christmas presents, or will soon, why not buy a product that will also has a positive impact on the environment, and check out @celeziofficial ! They are a new start-up company that create amazing jewellery, and 10% of their profits go to an environmental charity such as WWF. These charities are actively working to protect species all over the world, such as the incredible leopard⬆️, and 10% of @celeziofficial ‘s profits go to help funding charities such as the World Wildlife Fund.
-
Help them out by giving them a follow, as they have only just started on Instagram, and maybe consider purchasing one of their accessories (a Christmas present!?), and in doing so help preserve and protect endangered animals by funding the charities that are working on-the-ground in essential conservation efforts.
-
In honour of the coming festive season, I will be doing posts in December with lists of companies that offer eco-friendly, ethical products (e.g clothing) or products with environmental benefits, e.g a part of profits go to charity, or a tree (or more than one) is planted for every product sold.

COP 23:⬇️
-
At the moment, COP 23 is happening in Bonn, Germany. This is the UN climate conference, where global leaders meet to discuss climate-related issues.
-
The first week has gone by, this is the ‘slow’ week, where nothing big is decided, however there have been lots of speeches and conferences so far, and some progress has been made. This UN Climate Conference is being used to discuss how the Paris Agreement, created at COP 21 in Paris two years ago, can be reached, as well as lots of other promises. This landmark agreement promised to limit and reduce global carbon emissions, and keep global warming below 2 degrees Celsius.
-
We are now into the second week, this is the week where all the big important decisions and promises happen, so I will be keeping you updated on all decisions that happen in Bonn in the next week or so.
-
However, some of the things that have happened are:

Nicaragua and Syria, the last two countries in the world to not have joined the Paris Agreement, are signing onto it, meaning that all countries are now part of the Agreement. However, America under the leadership of Donald Trump will be pulling out of the Agreement.

There have been lots of ‘promises’ on all faces, from promising to switch to cleaner forms of transport, especially in cities.

At a press conference at COP 23, the Mayor of city of Pittsburgh (in the United States), William Peduto, announced that 367 American mayors have agreed to be “part of the Paris Agreement no matter what our Federal Government did”. This means that these cities, towns and even certain American states will keep to the Paris Agreement, even though America has left.

On Saturday at COP 23, a new declaration was signed to strengthen global response to climate change impacts on oceans and coastal zones. Oceans have featured little in UN Climate Conferences to date, yet they are the world’s biggest carbon sink.

New initiatives were announced to push forward the transition to renewable energy and to show that more ambitious clean energy development can quickly become a bigger part of national climate plans submitted under the Paris Agreement.

A picture of Muhoza, a Silverback Gorilla living in the forest of the Volcanoes National Park.
There are only several hundred mountain gorillas remaining on Earth, and about half live in the forests of the Virunga mountains in central Africa.
-
Gorillas can climb trees, but are usually found on the ground in communities of up to 30 individuals. These troops are organized according to fascinating social structures. Troops are led by one dominant, older adult male, often called a silverback because of the swath of silver hair that adorns his otherwise dark fur. A gorilla group is named after the Silverback leading the family. Each gorilla group has distinct and unique characteristic quiet different from another. The animals are peaceful, gentle, social, and mainly vegetarian creatures.
-
Many conservation initiatives are meant to aid mountain gorillas, and it is believed that their numbers may be steady or slowly increasing. Still, they continue to face major threats from habitat loss and poaching.

AMAZON DEFORESTATION DROPS BY 16%:⬇️
-
Deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon has continued to be a major problem, but efforts to reduce this trend continue to produce positive results. 2004 was the worst year, but since then, deforestation has declined by a factor of four (zoom in for a closer look). Nonetheless, more than 6,624 square kilometers of forest were destroyed during the 12-month period, equivalent to four times the country’s largest city, São Paulo.
-
The states of Pará and Mato Grosso continue to be two of the states with the largest deforested areas, but in comparison with the previous 12-month period, the two recorded a reduction in deforestation (nineteen percent for Pará and ten percent for Mato Grosso). The state with the lowest deforested area was Tocantins, with 26 km² and a 55 percent reduction in relation to the previous 12 months.
-
Hopefully this positive change will continue and deforestation of the Amazon will continue to fall. In 2016 the deforestation rate began to rise but as you can see in the graph it has now dropped again in 2017. In 2016 I posted about this increase, and this year I have posted about the rate dropping again. I will post about this issue in 2018 as soon as the deforestation figures are out, and hopefully they will be even lower.

@safari.frank - “It's all about the timing! ⏱️
-
Recently I feel as though my posts on this account have been lacking in quality and I have not been posting as often, as I usually try to post every day. I am now going to post every day again and try to make the posts as interesting and interactive and possible, and cover a wider range of subjects.
-
I am also trying to finish the RescueTheWorldToday website as fast as possible. The website is still developing, and some sections are now finished. I am aiming for the website to be up in 3 weeks at the latest, however the Advice Section will not be completely finished as each part in that section requires huge amounts of research and work, and only 1 out of around 15 areas has been completed. These areas give extensive advice on how to changes part of your lifestyle to be a more environmentally-friendly person. These areas include things such as reducing carbon footprint and stopping deforestation, as well as much much more. The area that I have finished is the Palm Oil Free Advice Area, which will be open when my website is launched.
-
The reason my posts have been lacking in quantity and quality is because I am only a 14 year old and have a lot of schoolwork to keep up with, as well as this account to run and the website to build.
-
Thanks for all the continued support, however you show it, and I promise that this account will become more interesting and interactive, as I will be sharing more things like petitions so you can get involved and have an impact.

Scientists recently discovered the world’s biggest tropical peatland in the Congo Basin rainforest of Central Africa. The peatland straddles the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of the Congo.
-
Roughly the size of England, the massive peatland is estimated to contain more than 30 billion metric tons of carbon - equivalent to three years of global fossil fuel emissions. When the scientists went back to investigate the peatland further, they discovered the peat along its edges is deeper than they thought. This means it may contain more peat - and, thus, more carbon - than they originally thought.
-
The scientists are racing to learn more about the peatland as loggers move to fell and drain the forests above it to make way for roads and developments like palm oil plantations. Meanwhile, local communities are hoping for greater protection of the region as government officials try to drum up more support for conservation initiatives at this week’s UN Climate Change Conference in Bonn, Germany.
-
Peat forms in the tropics over thousands of years because plant matter like leaves and roots cannot decompose in permanently waterlogged ground. It is a carbon storage powerhouse, sequestering up to 20 times more carbon than other types of rainforest soil.
-
This discovery has been welcomed by scientists, environmentalists, governments and local communities. They say that the peatland’s huge store of carbon increases the urgency to protect its overlying rainforest, and could also give two of the poorest countries in the world access to global climate funds. The peatland is virtually unchanged but this could change soon.

The USA can help curb climate change and cut its greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80% by 2050:⬇️
-
The United States can cut its carbon emissions by 80% by 2050, using ambitious but easily possible increases in renewable energy. The 80% by 2050 approach relies on four key emission reduction strategies, though the first three strategies take us 90% of the way:
-
1) America cuts energy use by almost half through more ambitious investments in efficient and/or electric vehicles, appliance, buildings, and industrial plants. If America use less energy to begin with, America will automatically shrink the need for fossil fuels to heat homes or power gadgets. Less use of fossil fuels means less harmful and climate-changing pollution. Waste less, use less, pollute less.🌿
-
2) America dramatically expands renewable energy so that wind and solar power represent at least 70% of their electricity mix by 2050—renewable energy, as a whole, will account for at least 80%.
-
3) America use this near-zero-carbon electricity to displace direct use of fossil fuels. Think electric vehicles that charge overnight using wind power or electric heat pumps instead of natural gas heating in our homes.
-
4) For those stubborn, remaining uses that are currently hard to replace with electricity (e.g., airplanes, trucks, and steel manufacturing), America moves to lower-carbon fuels such as clean biofuels produced from sustainable biomass.

This plan outlined by @nrdc_org can be followed by America and also other countries, and could help many countries reach their 2050 emission targets following the Paris Climate Agreement.

How America Is Losing Up to 40% of Its Food from Farm to Fork to LandFill:⬇️
-
Getting food from the farm to our fork eats up 10 percent of the total U.S. energy budget, uses 50 percent of U.S. land, and swallows 80 percent of all freshwater consumed in the United States. Yet, 40 percent of food in the United States today goes uneaten. This not only means that Americans are throwing out the equivalent of $165 billion each year, but also that the uneaten food ends up rotting in landfills as the single largest component of U.S. municipal solid waste where it accounts for a large portion of U.S. methane emissions.
-
Reducing food losses by just 15 percent would be enough food to feed more than 25 million Americans every year at a time when one in
six Americans lack a secure supply of food to their tables.
-
Increasing the efficiency of our food system is a triple- bottom-line solution that requires collaborative efforts by businesses, governments and consumers. The U.S. government should conduct a comprehensive study of losses in our food system and set national goals for waste reduction; businesses should seize opportunities to streamline their own operations, reduce food losses and save money; and consumers can waste less food by shopping wisely, knowing when food goes bad, buying produce that is perfectly edible even if it’s less cosmetically attractive, cooking only the amount of food they need, and eating their leftovers.

NEW SPECIES OF ORANGUTAN IDENTIFIED:⬇️
-
A genetically-distinct population of Orangutans has been identified living in a single high-elevation forest area called Batang Toru, in Tapanuli, Sumatra.
-
The Batang Toru animals are more closely related to their counterparts from Borneo, across the sea, than to other orangutans living on the same island. Until now, science recognized two species of orangutan: The Sumatran and Bornean, both of which are also critically endangered. The new species, named Tapanuli Orangutans (Pongo tapanuliensis), also has the oldest evolutionary lineage of all three species!

New Zealand's incoming government is hoping to make the nation greener by planting 100 million trees each year, ensuring the electricity grid runs entirely from renewable energy, and spending more money on cycle ways and rail transport.
-
The new prime minister Jacinda Ardern, who took over last week, plans to make New Zealand a carbon neutral county by 2050. New Zealand already generates about 85 percent of its electricity from renewable energy sources including hydroelectric, geothermal and wind. Ardern plans to increase that to 100 percent by 2035, including during new ideas such as solar panels being installed on school roofs. She also aims to have the government’s vehicle fleet to be completely green in a decade.
-
Many countries are now beginning to take the steps necessary to avoid an epic climate change disaster, now including New Zealand as a pioneering country taking the steps to assume their environmental responsibility.

We need to create better zero waste, zero carbon cities if we want to combat the effect this high rate of urbanisation will have on our planet.

I leave you with this video of a gigantic glacier in Greenland that is part of the second largest ice sheet on the globe. Unfortunately it is also the fastest moving ice sheet, melting at a faster rate than ever. I know it’s hard to tell without something to scale but these cliffs of ice and enormous! Let’s keep oil out of the waters that surround them.
-
If you still haven’t signed the petition in my bio PLEASE SIGN IT NOW. This petition has gained over 6,200,000 signatures and is attempting to stop the planned oil drilling to go ahead in the pristine Arctic. This cannot happen. An oil spill in the Arctic would cause irreparable damage to the unique ecosystems and put species that are already struggling such as polar bears at risk. The Arctic is vital for global cooling and the fight against climate change, yet the area it covers in summer has shrunk by 40% in just 30 years. Oil drilling would only increase this. PLEASE sign the petition in my bio if you haven’t already and share this amazing footage of the Arctic. This petition is probably the most important that I have shared this year, and the court case that is being backed by Greenpeace against the Norwegian government, who want to drill in the Arctic, is beginning in November, so they need as many signatures as possible.

For more info please check out my post before this, it explains what this petition is about and why it matters in greater detail.

Please sign the petition in my bio to keep the homes of polar bears like the ones in this photo, safe. The Norwegian government is currently considering opening up vast regions of the Arctic for oil drilling and this is not okay. The Arctic is a fragile region, the worlds air conditioner and is filled with many marine and land creatures that should not be disturbed or endangered. There is a court hearing in November started by Greenpeace to block this action from happening but they need your signatures as evidence that the world does not approve of Arctic oil.
-
The court case is beginning in November, so there is no better time than now to sign. Go and sign now before it’s too late and protect animals like polar bears, narwhals, sea lions and more from having their habitat exploited. Here’s to the animals of the world who make our planet more diverse and just want to live in healthy homes like us. It’s up to us to stop the destruction of their habitats. Help the animals of the Arctic and sign this urgent petition, link in my bio (or swipe up on my story). This petition is one of the most important I have shared this year, and will take about 15 seconds to sign so there is no reason to stop you. Please sign it and join the 6,000,000+ incredible people who are standing against disastrous plans to drill in the Arctic.

🚫Also please share to spread awareness and get as many signatures as possible for this urgent cause.🚫

Please donate to help create a plastic-recycling machine for a Sumatran village.⬇️
-
This village is in Bukit Lawang, the gateway to the Leuser National Park on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. The survival of the Leuser National Park depends on many tourist visiting and spending their money. Without them the palm oil plantations would quickly replace what little forest remains. These remaining forests are the last place on Earth where rhinos, tigers, elephants and orang-utans still coexist in the wild. Mostly the tourists come to see the Orang Utan, but increasingly they come because of the environmental projects that are starting to develop here.
-
With this easy to build machine, built using instructions from preciousplastic.com , locals can create, from seemingly worthless plastic waste,  new products, which they can sell for profit. They can give free rein to their creativity, proucing souvenirs, building materials or even eco friendly houses. In this way they can easily make money while cleaning up their neighborhood, an important step towards protecting the environment and, last but not least, saving our planet.
Please donate if you can to this amazing project. If you want more info or want to donate please click the link in my bio.

Earlier this month, dozens of organisations delivered an open letter to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Tokyo Olympic authorities demanding an end to the use of rainforest wood to construct the Tokyo Olympic facilities. So far, they’ve denied the risks in their sourcing practices and failed to adopt stronger safeguards to protect rainforests and respect human rights
-
Please sign the petition in my bio telling the IOC to stop using unsustainable timber from Malaysian rainforests, timber that has a high chance of being sourced illegally and by child/slave labour.

The RescueTheWorldToday Website:⬇️
(Preview on my Story)
-
In a world full of perils, the young must learn their survival skills early. But this young cheetah is running about because he’s excited that the @rescuetheworldtoday is nearly finished. The new website has lots of features to help you have positive impacts on the environment. These include:

A Petitions Area which has lots of environmental petitions to which I will be constantly adding to, which is sorted out in sections so you can easily find petitions in areas that matter to you.

An Advice Area which gives you lots of advice and tips on how to reduce your impact on the environment, with specific areas that you can get info about for things such as reducing your carbon footprint. New petitions will be added every week.

A Charities Area which gives you lots of charities to donate to. These charities are split into 2 sections: General Charities which are helping things like reducing deforestation and the poaching crisis, and helping endangered species, and Current Charities that are fighting for current efforts, such as the People VS Arctic Courtcase.

A Blog Area which will share current environmental news.

The website has been under development for some weeks and is still being created but should be up in the next few weeks, and more in-depth posts about the website and what it offers are coming up soon as well. For a preview of the new website check out my Insta Story.🌿 Please give any thoughts about the website (preview on Story) below⬇️

THE CRUEL REALITY BEHIND SLOTH SELFIES
After being brutally snatched from his home in trees, this sloth was sold to people who will likely use him as a photo prop. All he wanted was to live in his natural habitat. But instead he was cruelly captured, shoved into a bag, then forced to spend the rest of his life entertaining people. This #InternationalSlothDay (3 days ago), you can help vulnerable sloths suffering for profit. Sign up to our Wildlife Selfie Code now, and commit to cruelty-free selfies - go to the link in our bio.

@paulhiltonphoto - “I dedicate this day to Agum, a little Sumatran elephant that died of depression, his mother was poisoned on a palm oil plantation. He was another forest refugee, caught up in the destructive practices of the human race. Insanity and greed are everywhere, but together we can turn this tide of destruction around, for this little fella, I stand today with @istandwithmypack and @wildlifeasia. Spare a thought not just for humanity but for all these sentient being that share this space and time with us. For a better tomorrow. Poachers killed this black rhinocerous for its horn with high-caliber bullets at a water hole in South Africa’s Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park. They entered the park illegally, likely from a nearby village, and are thought to have used a silenced hunting rifle. Once the most numerous rhino species, black rhinos are now critically endangered due to poaching and the illegal international trade in rhino horn, one of the world’s most corrupt illegal wildlife networks. Less than 5,000 black rhinos remain.

@brentstirton was awarded the prestigious @nhm_wpy Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2017 title for this compelling image taken on assignment for @natgeo. Brent’s image will be on display with other images selected by an international panel of judges at the 53rd Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at the @natural_history_museum in London.

All but two penguin chicks have starved to death out of a colony of almost 40,000 birds, it’s a grim illustration of the enormous pressure Antarctic wildlife is under.
-
Over the next year we have the opportunity to create an Antarctic Ocean Sanctuary – the largest protected area on Earth – which would put the waters off-limits to the industrial fishing vessels currently sucking up the tiny shrimp-like krill, on which all Antarctic life relies.
-
This ocean treaty won’t be agreed until at least 2020, but in the meantime momentum is already building towards serious and binding ocean protection. Just last year a huge 1.5 million sq km area was protected in the Ross Sea in the Antarctic.
-
Over the next two weeks, the governments responsible for the Antarctic are meeting to discuss the future of the continent and its waters. While limited proposals are on the table this year, when they reconvene in 12 months’ time they have a historic opportunity to create the largest ever protected area on Earth: an Antarctic Ocean sanctuary. Covering the Weddell Sea next to the Antarctic peninsula, it would be five times the size of Germany, the country proposing it.
-
The Antarctic is home to a great diversity of life: huge colonies of emperor and Adélie penguins, the colossal squid with eyes the size of basketballs that allow it to see in the depths, and the largest animal on the planet, the blue whale, which has veins large enough for a person to swim down.

Please share this to raise awarness🌊
