Feeling saddened by the announcement that Condé Nast is shuttering my fashion alma mater, Teen Vogue.
It was there I learned the intricacies of print publishing and more importantly, the intricacies of how to conduct myself professionally; how to use power, managerially and through the dissemination of imagery.
The magazine itself was such a beacon of hope, my professional siren song to fashion and New York City.
I pored over every word and image (barring the beauty section, which I learned to religiously skip because my skin and hair type were vastly underrepresented — typical of mainstream mags and something that has dramatically changed in the past years under Eva, Elaine, and Philip). I so admire where it all started with Amy and Anna and I absolutely adore the current ideation: a sounding board for Gens Y and Z to develop their taste — radical self-love and inclusivity at the forefront. RIP Teen Vogue (print). Happy to have been a small part of this legacy brand.
