A year ago today I clicked on the Craigslist ad that would change my life. I emailed the owner and asked him some basic questions about it, little did I know the amount of work it needed. Desperate for something to wrench on and eager to potentially buy my first car, 5am the next morning I left for D.C.
There's something about photography that I think people still don't understand. Anybody can pick up a camera and take a picture. It's simple. You press a button. It takes someone with a true talent to take that photo, and make it theirs. Develop a style, edit a certain way, shoot with different lenses. It takes someone with true talent to take an ordinary image, and create meaning behind it, tell a story, and I think that's something that is commonly misunderstood. I talk to people all the time who are desperate to get out there and shoot, or to start learning, and honestly I tell them that you truly do not need eight grand in camera equipment, you don't need photography classes (although it doesn't hurt). All you need is a basic camera, a lot of patients, and the desire to pursue your passion and tell a story through it. If your dying to get out there but your afraid your pictures won't come out right, honestly just get out there and shoot whatever. They won't turn out the way you want them to the first time, as with anything else. Go out with your phone even. Take a million pictures until you find the one that satisfies you. Find what you think looks good, and build up from there. Just remember, your best picture will always be the one you haven't taken yet.
Got the bumper and ball joints off, currently working on axles. Found some minor frame damage, but nothing that isn't fixable. Plus, I might keep the dented bumper look with the mismatched colors for an "embrace your battle scars" ratty type look, just to mess with people. Plus, it's 30 years old and a first car, nothing will be perfect. Can't wait for you guys to see this image in my head come together. #RuindMk1 #Mk1 #JH #Cabriolet #VWProbs #Cabby2point0
AC compressor, nearly all the wiring, vacuum connections, coolant and heater lines and hoses have all been pulled and labeled. Just a few more things and she's ready to be pulled. I'm super impressed as to how smoothly this is going so far, and I'm confident this will be done with minimal issues if things continue to go this way. #RuindMk1 #Mk1 #Cabriolet #JH #VWProbs #Cabby2point0
