Waipapa Lighthouse did not disappoint, being the only one here too made it that much more special. Prints available in Landscape, msg me for more details.

Great response to the voting with 61% of you in favour of seeing more Astro shots. The next 3 will be dedicated to Astro.
This is a shot at Lake Tekapo featuring the infamous Church of The Good Sheppard. Nowadays it's always busy here with stargazing tourists but with the right timing & patience these type of results are possible.
To get the foreground pin sharp and low on noise I exposed for around 200 seconds with something like 200 ISO. The stars always no more than 25 seconds otherwise trails become apparent especially at 14mm.

A Standard nights #Vanlife here in New Zealand down on the South Isle. 🌠

The moon was fast due to rise and you can see how light it's getting as the moonlight pierces behind mountains out of shot. I'd woken up around 4:30am to brave the cold and check my Time-Lapse that I'd left running for two hours. It turned out pretty good, had to take a cheeky shot of the surroundings too and whilst the Milkway was horizontal. The great thing about the Toyota Estima van, although this version is a mid-90s can you get a huge electric glass roof on this model, just perfect for star gazing in the comfort of your bed.

Summer in New Zealand is just around the corner. Should you visit the South Island this Summer, be sure to hit up Mt.Alfred in Glenorchy for some majestic views.

________________________________________________ Just some of my useable shots from a trip to NZ this year March through June. Lens Fogging was quite a problem but I did mange to purchase a heater kit which helped. Usually I'll aim to shoot 10 seconds worth (300 exposures per scene) which is about 1 full battery.
Incidentally May and June were terrible for Astro, clouds everywhere!

An early evening down by Meiklejohns Bay. Sandflies out in numbers but thankfully not too bad thanks to the wind.
Lake Wakatipu was very choppy so not the transparent treat I was expecting, however the long exposure smoothed all this out.

For me Astro shots are about a fine balance of what you can actually see with the naked eye, what doesn't look overly photoshopped and what the camera used is capable of.
A nice composition also helps.. πŸ˜‰

Sunrise at the incredible Nugget Point Lighthouse. Always worth waking-up early to try and capture Sunrise here. I forgot my ND filters didn't matter as you could do what I did and take 50 exposures and Mean Stack them within Photoshop, produces a similar effect.

Star Trails of Tekapo. 🌠
This star trail consists of 30 stacked 25 second exposures. Pulled from a Time-Lapse sequence.
The story here is that I attempted to capture a 10 second Time-Lapse which requires 300 photos or 2.5 hours but because of the outside air temps the lens fogged up after around 200 or so exposures, the cure would be to purchase a lens heater kit, which l did two weeks later.

Tasman Glacier.

It had been a very challenging May, June and July for Astrophotography. It seemed wherever I went over the new moon phase would be cloudy or just the wrong conditions. I got lucky on this night and literally ran to this spot when I saw the night-sky was clear. It was already several days after the new moon phase, providing a waxing moon crescent enough to illuminate foreground without washing out the Milkyway. This shot was taken after a 3 hour Time-Lapse, Milkyway core pretty high by this point.

Sunrise at Cathedral Cove.
On my fourth visit I was able to find a sunrise shot I actually liked enough to post. Such a magical place when the conditions are right. I was unfortunate that it was too cloudy at night for the full Milkway arch. Alas I will be back one day.
