Staggered from one end of a crowded train to another with my walking stick - all the standing people were lovely and helped me along and stopped me from falling over, but not a single seated person offered me their seat, until one kind gentlemen right at the end of the train.
At the next station, a fully grown, able bodied woman got on the train and literally told me to get up and move because she’d “reserved this seat”. I made it clear to her that I was struggling with balance, and was using a walking stick, but she literally swung in and sat down behind me before I’d even managed to get into the aisle.

Because there were no other seats available, I was having to stand wedged between Clark and the train door for the entire journey between Newcastle and Kings Cross. Haven’t seen a single member of Virgin staff to ask for help from, and the social media team are completely devoid of human emotion and compassion because the only suggestion they could offer me was “we advise booking a seat in advance for all future journeys”, despite them ignoring every attempt we had made to do so when we booked the tickets two weeks ago.

If it wasn’t for a second kind gentleman offering me his seat when we hit York, I’d have been forced to stand for pretty much the entire journey. I paid over £100 for this ticket - and for what? I’ve been treated like shit by other passengers and now I’m ignored by Virgin. Absolutely shocked and appalled by the whole ordeal and it’s ruined such a lovely weekend in Edinburgh. Fuck you, Richard Branson.

Scroll. When people with good insurance or people who don’t worry too much about money, ask me what’s wrong with our healthcare? THIS is what’s wrong. This bill is for a back brace. I have a ton of spinal issues. The insurance was charged almost $1,100 for a simple back brace. Since I have a high deductible, I still owe $654 for it. This brace runs around $150 or less on Amazon. I should just skip using insurance and the doctors office. Add it to my pile of medical bills. Things need to change. People who aren’t “poor enough” for help and people who don’t have money to cover the gap that deductibles and being underinsured cost, are left out in the cold, in the US.#womenwarriors #healthcareforall,#momwithacamera,#resist,#spinalsurgery,#spinalsurgerywarrior,#disabledmom,#medicareforall,#progressive,#mexicanamerican,#tarahumara,#tlingit,#healtcaredebate,#healthcareinamerica,

So I was bad and forgot to take a picture while at the film festival on Friday.... Thankfully I had friends in the audience haha! Friday was extremely difficult, and yet amazingly rewarding. Difficult because I was fighting both the physical and the emotional. Ironically, I was more terrified of MCing a film festival than I was of dying in an avalanche Heliskiing... I was quite literally vibrating for the first half of the night, but eventually settled into it, and actually had a lot of fun. Unfortunately, my back went into spasms that afternoon and continued right through the night, so in between my speeches I was struggling to fight through the pain. So thankful to Sir Scott, who as you can see, never left my side throughout the whole night, whether it was turning my pages, or helping me to stay calm during my spasms. The night was a victory in two ways.... I overcame a gigantic step outside my comfort zone, but not only that, really enjoyed doing it. And showing our Heliskiing film, I’mPossible, was amazing! Our Q and A session was hilarious, and we had so many approaching us afterwards with encouraging words. Some even in tears... All in all, the night couldn’t have gone any better. I’m so proud of this journey I’ve been on, and can’t wait to see what’s next! @skibumm1967 #ferniemountainfilmfestival #masterofceremonies #overcomer #icandoit #disability #gracielouwhatwontshedo #skiul8tr #impossiblethemovie #ferniestoke #whatareyouinto

A MESSAGE TO THE CHRONIC ILLNESS COMMUNITY: we need to talk. Honestly, I’m disgusted. Today I saw that a subreddit has been set up by people with chronic illness to discuss and call out people that they believe to be ‘faking’. Over the last few weeks, I’ve seen more and more people ‘calling out’ other people with chronic illnesses and disabilities for the language that they use to talk about their own experiences. i’ve been targeted and harassed more than once by people for using language to talk about MYSELF that they don’t agree with. I’ve been harassed by people who misinterpret what I say and then when I tell them that, they continue to send me abuse because they don’t believe that they’ve misread my posts. In the last week, I’ve decided against making a documentary at work (instead focusing on a long-form written piece) because I’m too scared to put my body out there for public comment to potentially millions of people. There are so many challenges we face in society, especially as invisibly disabled people, and the ignorance of people who don’t understand that. But what makes me sick and sad and oh so angry, are the other people with chronic illnesses who feel like they have a right to abuse other people online because they don’t agree with the way they self-identify or live their lives.
You guys, we have SO many battles to face without turning on each other. the first time I truly became aware of this was when I saw some article about people dressing up glamorously to go to hospital because it made them feel better. MOST of the comments were like ‘oh, I wish I was well enough to do that. Obviously they’re not that ill if they’re putting on lipstick’. Oh my god. Fuck off.
You have NO IDEA what is truly going on in someone’s life or where they are in their experience of disability, and you have NO RIGHT to put them down for how they choose to cope. It’s hard enough going out (maybe for the first time in weeks) and having people telling you you look so good, without people who should understand putting you down for that. CONTINUED in comment. Blev ju hemma idag och lite arbete blev ändå gjort mellan alvedon, vila och te drickande. Det känns också fint att ha de vackra blommorna att titta på på som jag fick förra veckan i Norrköping. Sååå vackra! 💙👊🏻🌸

Saw my beautiful sister today with my brother and @jesswynn93 ... she had great fun throwing menus round the pub and screeching and scratching us and pushing her diet coke over the table and generally causing chaos 😂 So cheeky but she can get away with it 😂 (those who don't know my sister has Angelman Syndrome and functions at around 18 months old... she's the best ❤️) #angelman #angelmansyndrome #assertuk #learningdisability #disability #ld #sister #brother #family #visit #visiting #sibling #siblings #pub #chaos #lunch #beautiful #cheeky #mentalillness #bpd #ptsd #depression #edrecovery #queer #lgbtq #spoonie #spoons
