#eggs

The word "BREAKFAST" is derived from the phrase "breaking the fast." We fast while we sleep, and breaking that fast should make breakfast the most joyful meal of the day, as we have lived through the night and are beginning a new day.

I've had many people, even plant-based people, say that vegans should respect the lifestyles and choices of those who eat animals or animal products, who pay to watch animals in captivity, who buy from animal breeders or pet stores, who continue to purchase animal products for fashion when there are other options available.
No, I don't. I might respect you as a person, depending on your character and actions in general, but I will never respect your choice to harm animals.

Scarfed down this delicious stack of @angelicbakehouse bread, radishes, @good_culture cottage cheese, avocado, greens, and egg today for lunch 🤤
Okay, not *this* stack exactly... The pictured sandwich was swiftly dropped right after this picture was taken🤦🏼‍♀️ so I then proceeded to cry and sulk on the couch (seemed fitting). Then another equally delicious sandwich was made for me by babe 😏 What.A.Guy. It’s safe to say that #monday blues got the best of me.
Anyone else out there crying because it’s Monday?!

I don't normally post this sort of thing to push people to wake the hell up and go vegan but man this is seriously intense. It's the real, bitter and sad truth. We do this every day to animals. We pay others to do the dirty work for us just so we can taste their flesh for a couple if minutes.
We don't need it. Everything we need can be found in plants. Please wake up.

Egg Mother - Day 102
"Egg Mother" is my performance art piece symbolizing the amount of abuse and suffering experienced by female chickens in the egg industry.
For the entire lifespan of a chicken, I will take time to create an egg out of clay every day, no matter the day, to mourn the female chickens who are unnaturally forced to lay one egg a day, putting a tremendous amount of strain on their bodies.
For a female chicken, the average number of eggs laid (naturally) would be about 15 per year, and she would live to be about 8-10 years old. In the egg industry, female chickens are forced to lay an egg every day until their bodies give out from the exhaustion at 1-2 years, when they are then taken to slaughter for meat. By taking away the egg from underneath a chicken, she instinctually must produce another one, which becomes very hard on her body.
The conditions egg-laying chickens live in are some of the most cruel in animal agriculture. The typical cage is so small that they don't have room to stand up, turn around, or groom themselves, which becomes very frustrating as they go against their natural instincts. The cages are stacked on top of each other so that the chickens relieve themselves onto each other, while still being unable to clean themselves. The eggs fall through the bars of the cages to be collected. Free-range and cage-free are no better because they are grouped in larger spaces with more chickens, where they must climb on top of each other with no real room to move.
Some people believe that buying local or organic eggs from smaller farms or backyard chickens is humane, however the chicken is still being forced to produce an extreme and unnatural amount of eggs, thus putting unnecessary abuse on her body and shortening her life.
Although this piece focuses on the life of female chickens, it should be noted that a frequent practice in the industry is the grinding up of male chicks alive in machines similar to wood chippers after they hatch. Because they don't lay eggs, it doesn't make much economical sense to keep the male chicks alive.
Eggs (as well as all animal products) are unnecessary, unhealthy, replaceable, and never humane.

🥘Dreaming of this zoodle shakshuka today 🍳So delicious and easy to make for a nutritious, tasty and quick meal. Saute 1 clove pressed garlic in 2 tbsp olive oil. Add 1 cup zoodles, cook about 3 minutes until soft. Remove from heat and set aside. Add veggies of choice to pan: diced peppers, onion, mushrooms, spinach and crushed tomatoes and cook until soft. Add zoodles back, mix to combine, and use a wooden spoon to create 2 holes for eggs. Crack eggs into holes and cook for 2-5 minutes on medium, covered, until eggs have reached desired consistency. Season and serve!

Is #honey Vegan?...
.
When it comes to veganism, one of the most controversial animal products is honey. Ever since the VeganBros uploaded their video about honey the discussion gets more and more heated - especially in the vegan community itself. So here's my opinion on the whole topic:
.
Honey is a product that is produced by an animal.
A vegan is a person that doesn't eat or use any animal products. So by definition, honey definitely isn't vegan.
But for most people that's not a good enough argument, so here are the ones that convinced me. .
.
1. Have you ever questioned yourself why bees produce Honey? Surprise Surprise, it's not for humans!
Bees produce honey as a food storage for the colder periods of the year. When humans take the honey they normally replace it with sugar water so that the bees don't starve. The problem with that is that the bees don't get any of the nutrients of the honey which over time destroys their immune system. That is one of the biggest reasons for the widespread death of bees. This is critical for more than one reason. First of all animals are dying because of humans, which of course, is wrong on many levels. Also, it is very bad for the environment because bees are one of the most important pollinators on this planet.
.
2. "The animals of the world exist for their own reasons. They were not made for humans any more than black people were made for white, or women created for men." - Alice Walker
Bees are not supposed to be our slaves. It's as simple as that.
.
3. Conventional beekeeping is just as cruel as conventional pig or chicken farming. The beekeepers don't care about the animals, they just want to make money. For example, they often clip the wings of the queen bee to prevent swarming. A lot of them also "get rid" of the bees during winter instead of feeding them because it is less expensive. Bees have a nervous system and therefore the ability to suffer. Why should the suffering of a bee be less important than the suffering of a cow, dog or human? .
So let's appreciate the bees for who they are and not for what we can use them for.
.
Be Vegan, #bee Active! 🐝
.
THANK YOU! 💚 .
