The unbelievably beautiful Blue Whale at the National History Museum London. Although the best moment of today is still @graminmeinsta falling flat on her face out of a black cab on Russell Street 👌🏻

This #fossilfriday : The Deltadromeus agilis was a species of carnivorous theropod dinosaur lived 95 million years ago during the late Cretaceous in North Africa.
The skull of this species isn't known and the recostruction in the photo is only one of the many (and probably also the wrong) hypothesis made by the paleontologists.
The Deltadromeus was described for the first time ,and wrongly classified as a Bahariasaurus, by Ernst Stromer (the discoverer of the Spinosaurus and other dinosaurs) in 1912; 84 years after, in 1996, the Famous paleontologist Paul Sereno re-classified it as a Deltadromeus.

Check out this gorgeous shot from @paleoparadox, featuring a #fossil filled cabinet drawer from the collections he manages at the @alfpaleo museum 💀 Here's a peek at a day in his life 👇🏽
.
"I come in the morning and get started with a little fossil curation. An hour later, a server issue has me looking at computer code, but that gets interpolated because a docent is sick and I fill in for a school tour of 2nd graders. After lunch, I’m designing new graphics for an upcoming outreach event. By 2, I’m collaborating with my friends about a new cosplay for science post for Instagram. At 3, I head off to teach my students about museum science in the after school museum science program. Ten minutes into the activity and a fossil is broken, so it’s off to the prep lab to repair the fossil. By 5, it’s quieting down and I have just enough in me to do some research of my own on some weird marine mammals.
.
It may seem like a lot of work, but it’s just so much fun. And is it really work when it’s that much fun?" #naturalhistory #museums #museumcareerfeature

This is one those pictures where the writing and drawings can be difficult to make out on instagram. But this is a made up dragon species I created (for a recent college project) inspired by the white plume moth or Pterophorus pentadactyla be exact :3
I'd definatly reccomend checking them out if you are in to natural history cause they are truly beautiful and if you live in the UK they are fairly common to see.
Also, the dragon is called Nyx deriving from the Ancient Greek mythology of the Goddess of the night. But thats enough information for today xD

One subject I've been interested in at the minute is the Hen Harrier Project, working with farmers to help the dwindling hen harriet population in ireland (there's estimated between 108 – 157 pairs remaining). I do love to hear of initiatives to protect or reintroduce raptors and predators, and the growing understanding of their importance in natural habitats. This lady (imagine she's brown) is from some reference photos at the Natural History Museum.

Today I had the privilege to feed dome of America's most noisy animals: the Californian sea lion (Zalophus californianus). At around 85 stone, they are a large animal which needed to sustain the weight by eating large amount of food, in this case, fish! #sealion #longleat #safari #animal #water #boat #zoo #fish #feeding ====================================================Please follow for more @harveytweats

A CTOL a day: This is the Piked Spurdog or Spiny Dogfish (never trust common names btw) (Squalus megalops (Macleay, 1881)). I love the name of this species. Megalops. Just great. Interestingly, the genus name of the Tarpon is also Megalops (Megalops cyprinoides is the species name of the Indo-pacific Tarpon). Etymology (according to Fishbase): Megalops: Greek, megas, megalos = great + Greek, ops = appearance. May also refer to having large eyes. ⠀

If you would like to commission a similar painting, go to my website (link in bio) and click on "Sharks and Rays" in the menu. ⠀

Community day special!!
🌫️
Dragonair is based on Japanese sea monsters called wani (Fig. 2). Just like Dragonair, wani live in deep bodies of water. They both have long, serpentine bodies and can breathe both air and water. Wani are the rulers and gods of the oceans, explaining why Dragonair is described as the divine Pokémon.
🌫️
The greatest of all the wani is Ōwatatsumi (AKA Ryūjin - Fig. 3). Ōwatatsumi controls the ocean tides using the tide jewels kanju and manju. Dragonair’s design heavily draws from these legends - the blue crystalline orbs on its neck and tail are said to give Dragonair the power to freely control the weather.
🌫️
Wani are four-legged, so why is Dragonair legless? It also takes inspiration from lesser dragons (imugis) of Korean folk mythology, which resemble giant serpents. Dragonair’s orb-shaped jewels are also partially inspired by Korean myths where dragons are depicted as carrying Yeouiju (dragon orbs - Fig. 4). A lesser dragon is said to morph into a true dragon if it catches a dragon orb that has fallen from heaven.
🌫️
Etymology: Dragon[🐉]+Air[🌫️️]

Here's the kitty after it's makeover hehe ☺️ I can't decide if I like this pretty version best or the mean dark version in the previous post! My cat skull displays can't be listed on etsy unfortunately but payment can be taken via PayPal, just comment or message me if interested! Or if you want more photos. This one is £55 including UK post and comes with an acrylic dome over the top ☺️ These can legally be sent throughout Europe and the US but due to the fragile nature of the item I'd rather not, if you want to buy from outside the UK please message me for a shipping quote
