#flashbackfriday to when we had Zelda our gorgeous Colorado dog here for a board & train then ➡️ super flashback to her as a puppy 😍🐻 Just heard from @xanjazelda that they were actually qualified for Rally nationals! So proud of this team 🐾 #sonomacountycanine

#throwbackthursday to some environmental enrichment with Mo the puppy Cane Corso. Mastiffs are large dogs and tend to be slower maturing and quite floppy as they grow up. Because of this you see people that aren’t very active with their mastiff type dog until they are older, just assuming they don’t need much besides a walk around the neighborhood. As these breeds, specially Cane Corso, become more popular we are seeing more and more that are extremely nervous and not environmentally sound. Now of course this plays off genetics but also what you expose your dog to. Mo’s owners have made sure to do their homework and take him to a variety of environments but this was this first time having him climb on something and he did great! We didn’t want to take him high up the first time because as your can see, he is still a large clumsy puppy and why push it and risk a bad experience like him falling off the first time. You can see his mom lure him onto the wooden bleachers and once he is moving well she transitions by luring him onto the metal - a bit more slippery. P.s. This is when your dog having a solid understanding of luring also comes in handy! #sonomacountycanine

Giving smooches to #adopted Anubis during bitework. To think he was going to be euthanized and was labeled an “untrainable dog” all because of irresponsible people. Dutch shepherds and malinois are becoming a fad and it’s a shame to see how many inexperienced people are getting these dogs as “pets” from backyard breeders. You want an active dog to go running with? That’s pretty much any dog. You can go jogging with your chihuahua - you do NOT need a high drive and high energy working dog. A couple in San Francisco contacted a breeder because they wanted a pet to take to the dog park and they got Anubis. That’s what his life was - walks to the dog park, and off leash romp, then back home. At 8-9 months they started having issues with him and found a “trainer” who kept him for two months and alpha rolled him daily, getting into huge fights until he decided the dog should be euthanized because he wasn’t trainable. 😑 I am so so so happy one of my absolute best friends, @lenabella415 , contacted me and told me he was going to go to be put down. I didn’t blink and we arranged a transport aka she picked him up, put him in her back seat and drove him up to us. He was a bit rough around the edges after what he had been through but he was a good dog and a typical Dutch shepherd(minus his very special giant tongue 👅) @jesstrainsdogs and I had the pleasure of meeting @fritter11 and Cindy and adopting Anubis out to them. We love watching how far @fritter11 and Anubis have come and although they aren’t super close we love making the trip out to go train with them and snuggle our big beast. 📷 credit : @jesstrainsdogs

Board & train tripod Kangaroo aka Roo ❤️ This girl was rescued from an LA shelter a few years ago. She was abused so badly her whole shoulder had to be amputated 😞 She is a dog with a ton of heart and not even the amputation could stop her from running around and enjoying life. We do have her to work on some leash skills though as well as reactivity/dog aggression. Excited to have this girl in the house 😊 #sonomacountycanine

@fritter11 taking Mimosa, our adult Belgian malinois, for a spin 🏎️🔥 She hasn’t done obedience with him before but was happy to train/play with him. This was much better than their first encounter, where Mims had decided to jump in his pool and retrieve the vacuum at the bottom 😂 🐊 #sonomacountycanine #playwithyourdog

This message was the best way for us to start the year 😊 Leila had some obedience skills but lacked engagement and had some serious reactivity and aggression issues with small dogs. Leila’s Mom absolutely loves her and as dedicated and responsible pet owner, she wanted to continue her active lifestyle with her but was limited because of her behavior issues. After Leila’s board & train she was allowed more freedoms and was back to daily adventures with Mom. Then this happened! An unexpected situation, that would have seemed impossible before, was actually a smooth transition for this team. Great job you guys 🙌🏻 #sonomacountycanine #behaviormodification #dogaggression #dailydoseofleila

Got to meet with #adopted @sir_grayson_of_jowls for a training session. Grayson was adopted from @bayarea_bullies with a lot of obedience skills and his family has done a great job continuing training but there are always new things to teach 😊 One thing his papa was eager to teach him was a “stand” on cue.
Quick tip : When teaching the stand from a sit, make sure to keep feeding for your sit so it doesn’t degrade in anticipation of the stand. #sonomacountycanine

Training with Lala and her ridiculous shoulders 💪🏼 She is small but boy is she mighty. We always love when she comes to stay with us - she has tons of drive and an excellent nose which makes for fun Nosework games when we are out and about. This is especially helpful since she came to us with a hurt paw this time and she doesn’t get to play her usual game of fetch at the end of the day. It’s important to have a variety of mentally stimulating games stored away for moments like these. An injured dog doesn’t have to be a bored one 🧠 @sumeet_sahni #sonomacountycanine #breedambassadorprogram #playwithyourdog

Baby Mo got a chance to to train with his mama Ava and a few others in the corso crew. Can’t believe this stud is only 7 months old! He and his mama both have wonderful temperaments, are smart and extremely motivated which makes them extra fun to train with. Can’t wait to start up Mo’s bitework to see if he also bites like his mama @potrero_performance_dogs #sonomacountycanine

Some obedience with @sir_grayson_of_jowls before he went to his forever home 🏡 Off leash heeling, down in motion, call to front and call to heel without rewards. I try to spend tons of time training with my fosters for a few reasons 1. I want the dogs adopted to be breed ambassadors and eventually get their Canine Good Citizen. How else are we going to change people’s minds unless they see responsible ownership in action. 2. Training is necessary for every dog and and great relationship builder - there is literally not reason not to train with your dog 3. I want the smoothest transition possible to their forever home and I want them set up for success. I have seen how long it takes for dogs to settle into a home and I know I can make that transition easier. I crate train all the dogs, teach them to relax in an xpen, show them how to be loose in the house with and without dogs(supervised), start leash manners and obedience so the owners can start daily walks and activities with their new dog.
Once a dog is adopted from #bayareabulliesrescue we partner them with an approved trainer so they can continue training. Grayson’s family have been extremely consistent with training and are already able to take him on off leash hikes or out to eat in dog friendly areas. I am so so so excited to see the big squish tomorrow for a check in 💙 #adopted #GraysonBABR

#flashbackfriday to baby Tyson the DDR German Shepherd puppy. We got a chance to raise Tyson two years ago when he came to us a few months of age. We gave him a solid foundation including socialization, obedience skills and some bitework(showing him different equipment and targeting areas) Then at around 6/7 months we made him available and he went to an amazing family recommended by our friend @pacwestk9 He went to them with a training contract, as any working dog should, and Gina was able to keep us up to date on his progression. We are happy to say that he is a loved and loyal family member and protector. 🐾 #sonomacountycanine #puppyraiser
