Ace (7 years old). "He is the perfect combination of really smart and super sweet and eager to please. So it's kind of like his smartness is used for good rather then for other nefarious [things]. We've dubbed him as a "gateway dog" because our friends and family would come over and get to know him, and then go adopt a dog. He is responsible for four… no, five adoptions. He's a super special guy, and we are very lucky."
Zipper (Corgi, 10.5 years old). "What's something that makes her special?"
"Well, you would probably need all afternoon. Actually, she's a companion during the day to mom, who is disabled. And she loves the stroller, but not riding around with all of these people. She has her own car seat in the car so she can see out. But she's mostly just rotten."

Nutmeg & Honey (about 3 years old). "Honey had another family that had signed up for her, but the family never came, so we waited. We waited until their time was up and we literally sat there and waited for them, and then they never came. And we were so happy because we knew she was supposed to be ours. And we met Nutmeg [at the same shelter]. We had not really intended to get two dogs, but my children were a little young and they really wanted a smaller dog, and he was there. And now they are together, and they don't know any different."
Concho (Cattle dog, about 1 or 2 years old). "I just adopted him on Sunday. He's brand-spanking new. I got him at a rescue in Atlanta. He's awesome. He's like the best dog ever. He's super mellow and he loves everyone, all the dogs and all the people. He's a really good spooner; he loves to spoon in the bed. He's got some problems. He's got heartworms and some skin problems but we're working on it, so he's getting better."
Chrome (Boxer/Pit Mix, 2 years old). "He was a rescue. We've had him since he was eight weeks old. He's just a really smart, really great companion dog. He has a ton of personality; he wears his emotions on his face. He's very vocal; he'll chew us out when we do something wrong. He's super intelligent, and he picks and chooses his cuddle moments. And we can take him pretty much anywhere, because he's really great with other dogs. He's a good friend to other dogs, which is great."
Bella and Luna were walking around the UGA campus this afternoon. They evacuated from Florida with their family, in the hopes of avoiding #HurricaneIrma. My family has also evacuated from southeast and southwest Florida. As a native Floridian who currently lives in Athens, I am thinking about you all. Be safe, be vigilant, and be weather aware.
Cavalier (3 years old, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel/Poodle mix). "Cavalier is extra, extra hyper. He’s a kid dog, that’s for sure. He’s hypoallergenic. And he’s so smart. He’s well-behaved and he’s smart because he watches what I do and he watches my routine, so he already knows what’s going on. He’s very aware.”

Tico (5 years old, Dapple Dachshund). "He was an escapee from Cape Canaveral, and when the pound got him, he was less than 11 pounds. So he was skin and bones. And he is nutty neurotic though. He has separation anxiety, terribly. And he's not friendly with other dogs. And when the kids run around, he barks his head off. But we love him anyway."
