I felt like absolute crap today but still managed to get chores done, deworm some of the goats, muck a few stalls, and work with Faith in her splints. She's getting so much stronger and is definitely starting to figure out how to walk with the splints on. Now for a big bowl of soup and some tea!
Sometimes you just have to be your own macgyver.
As I sat puzzled and searching for ways to get Faith off of the ground while having the ability to be mobile but still supervised, I thought of a cart but that would cost $$$$, I looked up plans to build one but again, $$$, and time. Neither of which I have. Not only that but the majority of plans for carts were for animals that had no mobility of their back end, opposite of what Faith needed.
Enter, the weird desk chair my mom purchased 9 years ago after my dad's back surgery. It was designed to be easier on back pain as you sit on an exercise ball instead of a hard surface. It was used probably a dozen times and has sat, untouched and collecting dust, for NINE years, in our storage barn.
Eliminate the exercise ball, collect some carabiners from around the farm, and hook up the sling you've been borrowing for close to three weeks from a friend and ta-da!
Stay tuned for a video of Faith in action. Very slow, but still progressing, action.
Oh, Faith, what I wouldn't do for you. Dr. Emma came out today to take a blood sample from, Calvin, our biggest buck, in order to help Faith rebuild her red blood cells and heal faster and stronger. She looks so unbelievably miserable here but she is already showing improvements after receiving the transfusion. We've never had to go this route before for any of the animals, Faith is lucky to have an amazing vet come out so many times in the last few weeks just to help us get her back on her feet! Thanks again @avengeremma !!
Today we are fitting Faith for her splints. Because she was so anemic she is still too weak to support her body weight on her own. With the help of a sling and these splints for added stability, we have a better chance of her regaining strength a little bit faster. Otherwise, the longer she is down, the harder it will be to move forward. Fingers crossed! #faithsfight
She's a fighter, that's for sure. We're still hanging in there. She appears to be getting a bit of her strength back as well as her eye color, nothing drastic but definitely small improvements. We are looking at the possibility of a blood transfusion if she stops showing signs of improvement. She still can't stand on her own but with assistance she is able to hold her weight kneeling. We're trying a stronger dosage of vitamin B12 and thiamine today in addition to the B complex, Iron and Vitamin E. Keep praying!! #faithsfight
